Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro Prime Gold Mobile Phone - 32GB, 3GB RAM - US $166.99 Shipped (AU $229.57) @ AliExpress

660

I have been researching on this model for a while after my SGS4 started giving me bit of grief.

Price in title is for gold with standard package. I think standard package means the vendor will open the box and install custom ROM, no OTA updates. Will have play store

If you choose unopened standard, box will have factory seal and it will have original Chinese/English rom. No Play store. I have ordered this myself so i can be confident that the mobile is new.

If you want unopened standard Cheapest amongst the 3 colours is dark grey US$176.99 (AU$243.31). I ordered this myself Via DHL Shipping US$11.07 (AU$15.22)

Its waiting game for me now.

This phone seems to have some extra bands compared to other vendors, not sure about this as they are marked in red. 3G:1700, 4G: FDD LTE B5:850/B8:900/B4:1700. I recollect someone mentioned that the reds are unused in another post. But don’t know what it means.

I am happy to clarify anything within my knowledge and no I am not affiliated to the vendor or Aliexpress. This is my first order with Aliexpress.

Don't forget 7.25% cashback (~AU$17.80)

Edit:

Gold standard package is sold out. but other options are still available.

Standard package
Dark grey - US $174.99 Approximately AU $ 239.83
Silver - US $175.99 Approximately AU $ 241.20

Unopened Standard
Dark grey - US $176.99 Approximately AU $242.57
Silver - US $177.99 Approximately AU $243.94
Gold - US $178.99 Approximately AU $245.31

above price shipped with ali free shipping. DHL extra

    Hi All,
I think the AUD in title changed to different amount, than the amount when i postd the deal. Not sure if this is automated or the mods changed it manually. Website is still showing Approximately AU $ 229.57 for US $166.99.

  • 167.00 USD = 225.335 AUD via XE.com

  • i fixed the AUD in title again, as shown in website

Is the ROM updatable to Android 6.0? Does the 2nd SIM only support 2G/GSM?

    • +1

xiaomi have not released official 6 version yet. currently it is 5.1.1. but if you google enough you may find custom roms to your liking.

    • +1

The Beta/Dev ROM is out, but I'm not too sure how long till Offical ROM is out. They might be announcing it in India on the 1st July.

    • if you know what you are doing and love custom ROMS, get the Chinese version.

The international ROM version is locked.

      I am running this:

      http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/development/rom…

      Works great.

CM13 is available also but it was too buggy for me.

I just tested the 2nd sim and I only got 3G when I switched data to the second sim.

      • +1

Can you let us know if the phone receives 3g on both sims on standby or does sim 2 only support 2g when sim 1 is on 3 or 4g ?

I am looking for a dual sim phone that will work after Telstra 2g is turned off.

        • If you can tell me how to test this I'll give it a go.

        • @daveaus:

When you have both sims in the phone you should get a letter next to each signal bar , like 4G or 3G if you just get G that means it is only a 2G signal. so you want to see 4G and 3G or 3G and 3G
          Thanks

        • @buderim11: It only shows the 4g / 3g / lte icon for the sim which is set to be used for data.

        • @daveaus:
          .
Thanks for taking the time to try , It looks like the 2nd sim drops back to 2g when the other sim is on 3 or 4 g …

        • @buderim11: I am sure I read in one of the XDA rom threads someone there said this is a dual 4g stand by phone. Best to ask the question here I think.

  • I keep reading contradicting information regarding the custom ROM or "Global ROM", some say they DO have OTA updates, some say they don't.

Anyone know which one is it?

      This ad says: Tips:
1.>The bundle "Unopened Standard" mean we will keep the original packing box,not broken the original seal, it's mean the phone with China stock firmware, only english and chinese support. No google play pre installed, and we can't check the phone, you need bear the risk that you may get defective cell phone.
2.> Xiaomi Released Official Global Firmware, with multi language, support OTA update,we can help you install the global firmware, click here to buy now.
3.> This item support Ship from our spain Warehouse,Pls choose "Ships From: Spain".

The second tip links to this ad: http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Original-Xiaomi-Redm…

      • Thanks, I think I'm confusing myself with the different ROMs they have for this phone.

        • Yeah I'm holding back on this, my phone (Nexus 5) had the power button issue and seems completely rooted so I want to get a new phone as I have had it for 2 years 4 months. However lack of warranty makes me a little worried about buying. That and having to install firmware etc especially if its in different languages might be confusing. sounds like some people are just going straight to CyanogenMod which might be an option.

    • I think the confusion stems from the fact that some have vendor roms that are called "global" but are actually vendor roms . Mine had a rom called Globalxxxx but had no OTA and the unlock/security option was blanked out , so no finger print unlock . After installing the "global" rom from the official site OTA updates worked .
My wife has one as well but that came with the proper global rom out of the box .

      • How easy is it to change the rom? Is it just a matter of downloading the rom and flashing it?

        • +1

The UI (miui) is super easy to change and flash ROMs. Jump on their website and there is a guide once you choose the phone you are using, download it, copy it to the phone and then use the built in app to update.

I've done it half a dozen of times for family and friends, never had a problem.

I'm tempted to finally buy this, but I've just read this week that they've released a Special Edition in Taiwan that has extra bands available, including the coveted Band 28. The Taiwan Xiaomi website doesn't do international shipping, so we're going to have to wait for one of these other vendors to get stock and start selling. I'm just not sure that prices will be as good for the Special Edition since demand will be high.

    • Wow! Ive been continually tempted by these deals, but this news probably tips my decision.

    • If this is right I'm in.

      • +2

Yep, we've just got to find someone who can organise a shipment from Taiwan. Time for some store reps to work their magic.

    • Yes, B28 support in Special Edition here

      Will DEFINITELY be getting this!

Note that micro SD cards are only in FAT32. So only up to 32gb unless u work around. No big deal for me but others may want large movie files on the SD card.

    • +1

I have a 64GB version in mine. Seems to have no problems.

      • I tried my 64gb and 32gb. Only 32gb is recognised. Only difference I can see is 64gb is exFAT and 32gb is FAT32. Did you reformat your 64gb?

  • There is also another deal for similar price with $20 USD coupon, but seller is very new, couldn't post.
I'm tempted, pay more for the silver / black, more for shipping (DHL) and more again for currency conversion, etc…
Looking to be about $260 all up on the CC.

    • can you paste the link please?

        • cheers. it says Store:Xiaomi Authorized store.

Actually, given the specs of this phone, $150 after coupon is quite reasonable considering no brand name ones are selling them for $140 for the similar specs with a bigger battery.

        • @fchis: Yeah, looks like its just a name, not many sales and only be around a few months…

        • @fchis: Hi, these phones also available on eBay & free postage

    • that coupon is for orders over $899, i dont think you can use it for this order

      • Its on the product page, I understand its linked to larger orders, you can check it through the check-out process before you commit to buying.

        • There's another coupon for Spend US $299.00 to get US $4.00 off. And you can't even use that if you only buy 1 phone

  • whats the Prime part of the model name reflect? what does it have over the Pro?

    • +1

There's a table showing the different version in the link.

      • ah storage

        got it thanks

stupid really to name it differently cause of storage

        • And extra ram
          There's 2gb/16gb or 3gb/32gb(Prime)

    • In short: RAM 2GB vs 3GB

  • +3

This Special edition Taiwanese version supports b28, any idea how to source one to AU?

    http://www.mi.com/tw/note3/specs/

    • Oh damn, that looks good. I'd be interested to know though if there's a way to unlock the frequencies since, please correct me if I'm wrong, technically all the SD variants of the phone should be able to use this frequency.

      • I think it will need antenna support.

      "Red Rice Note 3"

      • Yep, that's apparently the literal translation of Hongmi

  • damn the australian dollar.

    • Blame the Brexit!

      • +2

already blamed that on a dose of the clap

  • this is seriously the OB phone and it's well deserves the spot, its such good bang for buck and will have tons of fantastic roms in near future.

    • yep dont regret my purchase one bit, and in all honesty i played around with an SGS6/7 and the only thing i would want that for is the better camera. the rest is moot.

  • +3

If you take a lot of photos, don't get this. TERRIBLE camera! Other than that, pretty good for the price point.

  • Is AliExpress reputable (it doesn't have Paypal)

For people who have ordered how long does delivery normally take?

    • Bigger then amazon and ebay combined.

  • There are three things this phone lacks: no NFC means no pay wave with ANZ and Commonwealth bank; no band 28 so you can't use 4gx and 4g in some places and a good camera.

  • Why I come out $175something.

    • gold only

  • Hi All,
Gold standard package is sold out. but other options are still available.

  • Anyone know how the warranty works with Xiaomi product purchased from Aliexpress ?

    • +1

      check
      http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Warranty/311331_1672…

      1. Feedback

Per our warranty terms, after customer receive goods, If you confirm order delivery and leave 5 star feedback in 3 or 7 days, can get extra warranty time as below.

Leave 5 stars feedback in 3 days; add extra 6 months free warranty time, total free warranty time is 12 months.

Leave 5 stars feedback in 7 days; add extra 3 months free warranty time, total free warranty time is 9 months.

In other case, it’s default 6 months free warranty time.

But my research tells me to forget about the warranty for any company without ABN.

      • Anyone tried to get good rating the creative way generally need it because they dont have the goods to back it up .. very fishy.

      • Really reliable feedback system there. 5 stars or half your warranty. No pressure to leave 5 stars at all is there?

Feedback and warranty both not worth spitting on. Pass.

        • I have done my homework and with the help of the lovely people on here helping me, I've decided to get a HTC Desire, which will do what I need & that way to the phone company can transfer all my stuff to my new phone.
          Thanks for you help too.
