$10 Fee Waived - Coles Reloadable Mastercard

1320
TEAM10

EDIT: OZBARGAINED IN 2 HOURS 29 MINS. THANKS FOR COMING!

This was super popular a couple of weeks ago. The code literally updated in front of my eyes while refreshing the page.

Thanks mrjames for the original post https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/254054

  • min $10 transfer required. Be careful topping up card from an existing CC, could be treated as a cash advance! DYOR.

  • Free foreign exchange til the end of the year (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/253027)

  • Earns flybuys points which can be redeemed for giftcards. 1 point for every $2 spent. 2000points = $10 credit at coles. crappy return however better than most debit cards which don't have any rewards. also 1 point for $1 on forex.

  • good for use as a disposable card for free trials (eg. netflix, spotify and uber)

  • Free cash withdrawls at overseas atms (be aware the owner of the ATM can still charge a fee)

Lets see how long this code takes to get ozbargained.

  • Thank you, the only reason I didn't get one when it was first posted was the $10 fee.
Should be useful in NZ later this year.

  • My two from the last deal arrived yesterday so they are processing them fairly quickly too

    • yes fairly quickly - mine arrived next to next day if not the next day.

  • I got it from the last deal too. Good deal.

Also, paid for it with my Coles MC. No cash advance charged. However you can't top up the balance with it (have tried already).

  • Thanks mate missed out last time but snagged one this time round.

  • Thanks. I got one for the mrs.

  • -1

    thanks got another 2

  • Have a question, from the Ts&Cs, there is a $10 cancellation fee (when cancelling the card), so what will happen if there is less than $10 in the card on the date of the card expiry? Will the account be cancelled automatically or we need to top it up to $10?

    • +1

Expiry surely can't be considered cancellation?
I think it's more if you had a heap on cash on the card, and lost it.. You could ring up to cancel the card - for the $10 fee - and be credited the cash (or more likely, have another card issued with the balance transferred.)

  • Is there a reason to get this if you already have a CC aside from trial subscriptions etc?

    • +1

Last deal it was suggested that you might get free delivery from Coles Online cause it's a "Coles Mastercard".
Would love to see this confirmed.

  • does anyone know if CBA credit cards charge a cash advance fee for this

want to grab a few more

  • +5

This was a very good card, i brought it to queenstown and loaded $200 on it and another $100 whilst i was there, conversion fees were negligible

The direct debit top up method took me 5-8hrs, not the 24hrs as advertised which was very good and I got it for the anonymity plus it's a prepaid card so use it and dump it

They have Visa protection so you cant just use any credit card to top up this card to avoid fraudulent activities (you stealing someone's CC to try top up this card)

Overall, pretty happy with this card, I have my flybuys linked to it and it also has my flybuy's barcode on the card so I use it to replace my existing FB card

    i recommend :D

EDIT - i bought this card last time they had the $10 waiver deal (this deal)

EDIT2 - the only downside to coles mastercard is that the customer service requires you to pay like $2-$4 to call up the customer support line, i call them at work instead so yeaaa… haha (i think they charge the telephone company you call from)

    • They only charge a fee if the information you're asking about is available online. If the info is not available they answer questions free of charge.

      • ah thanks for clarification, i called them a couple of times to check info cos the CC i was using wasnt allowing me to top up that's when i found out they have the cc protection, different names on credit cards since i went with a fake name on the coles mastercard

        • LOL fake name on the CC..

btw I would imagine the $2-4 fee is charged off your card, not your phone company. Their phone number is a standard 13xx number (I think? or just a normal landline even) and they would have no way to charge you extra on your phone bill..

        • @illumination:

Nah i checked the online statement, they didnt charge me the money on the card (that would make sense too)

        • +1

@Ninjabredman: But surely there's no way they can force a $2-4 charge onto your phone bill. I don't believe that's possible.

        • min $10 transfer required. Be careful topping up card from an existing CC, could be treated as a cash advance! DYOR.
Could you tell me please What is that means ?

        • +1

@Wick: Have never seen/heard of DYOR myself either, but I think it means "do your own research"

        • @illumination:

          you'd be correcT!

        • @illumination: thanks

        • +2

fake name on the coles mastercard

          McLovin?

        • +1

          @danyool: Mr Burger

    • well…never noticed the barcode to replace my FB card! thanks for that… +1
Can anybody compare conversion fee with citibank+ account overseas?

  • whats the best way to charge and recharge?

    • direct debit (takes up to 24hrs)

      or

Credit card (has visa protection, you need some pin setup with the bank and the name on the credit card needs to be the matching name on this coles card)

you can put any name you want on this reloadable master card, my card name is Ninja Bredman so I gave away my right to top up with credit card lol

      • -1

Why use a fake name? Paranoia?

        • you can use the card anonymously and dump the card whenever

sign up to free trial stupid stuff

      • Could you plse say how to get this to REload from a credit card, I couldn't see it on my account - only direct debit? Cheers

        • I havent been able to load it via credit card but after a brief chat from customer service line we established the coles mastercard must have same name as the credit card you're loading with and also you need a Pay by Visa 4digit password that you need to organize with the bank

i just use the direct deposit unfortunately

  • is the redeem 2000 flybuys points for $10 off coles shop automatic? i want to link my flybuys but don't want to if it auto uses up my accumulated points.

    • -3

      it's automatic

      • what if i want to use those accumulated flybuys points at the online gift shop (i.e. redeem for gift card/items etc)

        • +1

it's not automatic, but the screen will show you choice whether to redeem now or later. it's not like woolies that automatically deduct $10.

    • Its automatic but you can call them up to disable it, then youll just need to convert the points manually into dollars

      • it's not automatically redeemed $10. online setting will give you choice to activate the redeem process.
if you turn it on when you shop at coles it still asking you whether you want to redeem or not. if it is off there is no offer to redeem it on the screen

    • it's not automatic. it will give you a choice whether to redeem or not

    • To get the prompt you have to turn it on yourself, but it's never automatic. You have to say yes or no after that. You can turn off the prompt though.

  • Is anyone else getting their name input as Prepaid Cardholder instead their actual name? Signed up but the email confirmation says Prepaid Cardholder instead of my actual name

    • you might of missed a field…? i signed up my card with a chosen name lol

      • I'm doing it on my phone and double checked I had my name correct since this happened last time as well. Can't see where I'm going wrong if I'm putting my name in the name field?

        • sorry not sure.. i signed up on desktop originally

        • +1

          @Ninjabredman:
Thanks anyway, at least now I know that your name can be on it rather than a generic one
          Guess I'll call them up

Update Apparently my name is so common the system didn't accept it.. Despite my name actually being very uncommon

  • Cheers. Worked for me a couple of minutes ago.

  • +1

Still struggling to see the benefits of getting this card??

    • +4

multiple free trials to club catch, netflix etc

    • it's a prepaid credit card that offers anonymity for the user to shop online, signup to sites that require credit cards, or even just a prepaid credit card to replace your existing flybuys card

      • How does it offer anonymity though?

Unless you used fake details to register the card and flybuys and purchased the card with bitcoin.

Im sure im wrong but I dont understand : (

        • +1

Yes, on signup you can put any name you want on the card, you can pay the original signup of the card with another fake credit card (if you are that hardcore)

my Coles Mastercard has my username on it

and because it's a prepaid card, use it and dump it

        • +3

          @Ninjabredman:

on signup you can put any name you want on the card, you can pay the original signup of the card with another fake credit card .
and because it's a prepaid card, use it and dump it

you my friend have just invented the first Burner credit card

Just remember to use a VPN, fake email address and parcel locker (with fake name and fake phone number via $2 sim card)

        • @Ninjabredman: quite like this idea. My own has my real name on it, but I'm tempted with the idea of a second fake. Would be useful for online shopping.

        • @easternculture:

You can use a $2 prepaid sim card and sign up to Uber with your main uber account and get 2 free $20-$25 rides… but you didnt hear that from me XD

        • @easternculture:
Doesn't parcel locker require the sim to be in a phone to receive messages and therefore require an imei? I have not used parcel locker yet but if so it doesn't seem truly anonymous. Or can you not use the number and just use a short term email.

If it is refillable it might be worth the trouble over a purely disposable preloaded credit card.

        • @skyva:

Use a burner Phone. $10 phones have been posted on ozbargain a few times

        • @easternculture:
Parcel lockers now require an ID check online. It's been changed

        • +2

          @cwongtech:

glad i already have 4 lol

  • Awesome, thanks op!

  • Dammit… I bought one last week after the previous deal expired. :(
Received it today. For those interested, it has a 2 year expiry date.

    • If it makes you feel better, so did I.

  • +7

I hope you are all team members like me. I operate the checkout and bag groceries for them about once a week, for the last few years. About time I got some recognition for that.

What is the "platinum" part? Doesn't that normally mean things like free travel insurance?

    • +19

I hope you are all team members like me

I shop there a few times a year. I use self checkout so i consider myself a team member

      • +4

Thanks for explaining the joke. Now its hilarious.

        • +1

lol .. i actually thought you were serious about working there

      • lol +1

But wait…if it's just few times a year, then where do you usually buy your groceries? I want to spend less :D

        • then where do you usually buy your groceries

          Woolworths

    • +1

About time I got some recognition for that.

      Are you just volunteering?

      • +6

I volunteer whenever there is a queue for the regular checkout.
It was meant to be a joke. Too subtle? … judging by the votes on me vs easternculture, it was way too subtle. Would have worked better in a deadpan voice.

        • +1

You hit disgruntled casual Coles employee a little too hard.

        • Yep, totally missed it..
Sounded like you were a weekend casual.
          As above, I wasn't alone.. :-)

Tried paying with a ANZ Visa CC. Didn't work, damn.

Also, anyone thought of combining this with the legally changing your last name to burger deal?

Just be like, first name Illumination last name Burger.

Go get your free burger.. what do you mean my last name's not Burger?? How can you get a card issued in a non legal name?!

And get the maximum (10?) cards just for good measure so you can show your "legal name" 10 times!

    • Tried paying with a ANZ Visa CC. Didn't work, damn.

My Visa debit was rejected too. Understandable, as its a cash-equivalent transaction.

      • I used a prepaid visa from a life insurance promotion that was due to expire and it worked

    • I paid with an ANZ credit card and my card got blocked.
      Sorted now.

  • -2

John Analwart commends you for posting this. He is looking forward to the cards he ordered.

    • So does Mike Hunt

  • I tried to make payment with different CC cards, even Orange debit card, all failed.

Is it only one card per household allowed?

    • +1

      Happened to me too.

      Maybe Coles has caught on.

      • +1

Put in different postal address, works.

        • Awesome, switching to manual address entry works too.

    • I used all of the same details for my card last week and today with no issues.

  • Thanks OP!
    Ordered one
but now wonder which one to use overseas (China, before 2017) for cashout/POS payment
coles reloadable or Citibank plus?!? Any suggestion?

  • +2

After I enter my flybuys card number I get "There was a problem serving the requested page", maybe one per flybuys member? I'm gonna keep trying again see what happens

    • Update: Payment Accepted

I managed to get pass the error by entering my flybuys card number after I enter my name and email then quickly clicking next before the error pops up

      Thanks OP

    • same thing happened to me

      • did you get through, you just have to enter the flybuys card number last, then quickly click next

        • I will give a try

          Thanks mate

  • Can this be loaded and bought anonymously?

    • Details here. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/3816535/redir

However by the time you complete all pre-requisite steps, it might already be expired

    • No, John Analwart and Ninja Bredman (above) would take serious offence if you were to question whether their actual names are the same as on their card!

  • When we pay using this card is it credit or savings?

Can we use for Eftpos (savings) where places don't accept credit cards or credit card with surcharges?
