Hydale Beef Jerky (Spicy, BBQ & Original) $2.99 @ ALDI

160

Geronimo Jerky is the best. Hands down. However, the Big Chief doesn't do the Geronimo Jerky deals as often as he used to and still hasn't posted out my last order from a couple of weeks ago… though I've got no 'beef' with the Chief given the popularity of the stuff.

The problem is, like any stone cold addict, I need a fix to hold me over. Serendipitously I stumbled across these at Aldi.

There are three flavours. So, purely for research purposes, I bought a packet of each and ate them all. Selfless, really.

Firstly, the texture of the the jerky isn't like Geronimo. It's softer. But not quite as soft as that dodgy stuff from Coles, the Jack Links (or whatever it's called) stuff.

Flavours are subjective, we all get that Einstein, but the standout here is clearly 'Spicy'. It's got cracked pepper on it and it tastes a bit like a peppered steak.

For $2.99 and always available it's definitely worth a crack if you're waiting on your blazin' arrow or blazin' saddle from the chief.

Kirbat jerky is my favourite by far.

Where can I score Kirbat Jerky, Mr Abbott? Let me guess, onion flavour?

      • Satay, Five Spice, or Satay.

Usually $3.50-$4 for 50g at your local Asian grocery.

i agree that this is pretty good jerky for the price (spicy is definitely the best), but this has been readily available for a long time, and this is the standard price! No 'bargain' here. Maybe a forum post would be more appropriate

It clearly states 'new' on the tag and being an Aldi aficionado I certainly would have seen it before. Also, for $2.99 regular price compared to other stuff at supermarkets it certainly is a bargain for decent jerky.

you are incorrect. I've been buying this stuff at aldi in broadway for about 6 months now (and only that long because I haven't been in the area any longer). You want to post a deal just because YOUR aldi finally caught up? Okay then…

  • This is RRP!!!!!

And here I am, just about to go to Aldi in another 20 minutes for some groceries. Jerky time, methinks.

  • How does the Spicy one compare to Buckshot from Geronimo? This is my favourite and somehow I missed the last deal so like you I need something to get me going !

    • Pretty close I reckon. Just a peppery taste without any crazy aftertaste. I was in a jerky rut between deals from the big chief, so pretty stoked I found this. Different texture though.

      • Oh, I will make sure I drop in Aldi tomorrow. I don't mind soft ones either.

Just a warning that last time I bought from aldi there was mould growing inside, probably not dry enough.
Did try a few bites and didn't get food poisoning though, but taste wasn't that great.

    • Why u keep biting after u found mold in there? May have something to do with the taste being not so good 😷

Meh, all comes down to cost benefits analysis. Chance of me getting food poisoning from mould would be less than winning next Saturday lotto

          Haha a true ozbargainer

  • Gotta be honest….i love the big chief's jerky soooo much. So got all excited when i saw this post by the OP. I've just bought two bags, and while its ok, i reckon its NOTHING like geronimos!
Definitely heaps softer, in fact i dont think its much better than Jack's Link etc.
I wouldn't buy it again. But thanks OP.

    • Now worries, you try spicy (the peppery one)?

      • Yeah I did! I'm sure it was the best of the bunch. I love all things spicy, just like you by the sounds of it!

  • Oh so it's not just me still waiting on my Geronimo jerky…

Always willing to try new comers to the jerky market though! (except Coles/Woolies crap).

  • I couldn't see this at Belmont wa :(
