  • Is $20 valid for first 30 days or every 30 days as long as you remain on the plan?

    • +4

Just one month, use all the credit and throw it.😃

    • +4

30 days …assuming no network downtime

    • buyer BEWARE

Dodgy Boost will become 28-day prepaids tomorrow

      • That's for new connections from today.

Otherwise you get upgraded free to $25 service with a lot more data (but lose 2 days service).
I'm very happy with the change :-)

        • So you think paying extra $65 a year for more data on the smaller subscription is beneficial? Good luck reasoning that

        • @lovepeoplenotmoney:
Depends on your use & circumstances.
No one would use boost for high data & call inclusions.

As I said - I'm happy with the change. I didn't say others would necessarily be - check out the new costs & inclusions for your use.

I use more data than calls, and can use the extra data for additional calls.

I don't recharge, just use new $20 SIMs, which can be bought at Kmart for $5 at the moment (check expiry date). I still have a number of free $20 Boost .

Plus I usually start the new SIM a few days after the previous credit expires. I don't need to make outgoing calls everyday.

I have a permanent number using SIM cards costing $2/year - for important incoming & outgoing calls - previously posted the details.

(I wrote the wiki about cheap Telstra Starter Pack use - have been doing this for years.)

So the extra included services I will use is more advantageous than the loss of 2 days services per SIM - in my case.

That means about 1/2 a SIM extra per year, or about $2.50 at the moment.

But I'll just use other free SIMs from deals here, to fill in the gaps. (eg have a few free $10 Optus SIMs - $2/d unlimited calls, 500MB - to use as needed over 6 months)

So no extra cost for me, just needs a different approach ;-)

Changes to costs & included service will always have advantages or disadvantages, depending on your use. It's up to people to assess that for themselves.

        • @Infidel: There's no relevance to the increase in $5 every 28-days, and your method can't be applied to everyone. Even you have to use one more SIM like everyone else. Furthermore, your freedom of need is greatly limited compared to the rest of us that are bigger data users, and having people to call.

The price increase is a broken bridge. While the impact for you is buffered by hoarding a lot of cheap SIMS, the hardship is more for everyone else.

So your reasoning is unable to support how the price increase is better, but still good luck trying.

  • Is Boost 4G?

    • all on the Telstra 4g network!

      • +2

        .. great .. ✔️

  • How do international calls work on theses? I mean I can't seem to find details about it.

  • +1

Most important question is: Can you use the credit in Google Play Store ?

    • +1

      no

  • Only for new SIM?
… not so useful if you already use Boost and since it's only 1 month not really that much of a deal IMHO.

    • I wonder if it would work if I signed up using the $10 prepaid SIM that came with the $19 Boost Kuta I bought at Woolworths last week.

  • Are the $20 Sims still $5 at Kmart ?

  • Was thinking of getting wife off amaysim to this i use boost $20 per month and never run out she has same and uses it most times.
So could get her this she get a bit extra for that month then change to $20 plan.
Just would need to try and keep her number.

Can u please verify the expiry date on the back of the packages.

    • +4

Give me a sec,I will check.

      Edit: expiry 12/05/17.

  • So since this is for new sims, i should be able to keep using this if i port in/out every month?

    • Did you just buy multiple SIMs repeating the same registration process?

Boost seem to ask for personal details upfront rather than upon activation.

      • No I haven't bought any, was just curious.

        • I just bought one to try, prepaid SIMs aren't very good value the past few months

        • @lovepeoplenotmoney: I took a gamble a while back on the amaysim unlimited + sim card $19.90 deal. Still using them :) Wouldn't mind a repeat of that one…

If this Boost deal is for new sim cards and not just new customers, then it's actually better value. Although there is the added annoyance of porting out/in every month.

        • @axeology: Amaysim have them often, very similar to this deal but the value is less because of the 28-day period. The advantage of Amaysim is for people who use data a lot during the weekdays. With Boost you need to time your data transfer for backups and watching videos on the weekend.

Porting literally takes 10mins, but also 20mins to call up to ensure your personal details are transcribed to the porting database for you to setup an automated port out.

        • @lovepeoplenotmoney:
I have only started porting in/out the last 2 months from Vodafone (long time customer) to Optus and now to Woolworth ($1 Sim deal). All have gone smoothly. I have not called to ensure personal details. Should I be doing so? On validation one has to provide ID details, I presumed this was putting me on their database. Maybe I presumed incorrectly!

        • @Rggmcl: Yes companies are really slack and lazy, and forget to update to the porting database, which cause nightmares. I remember Amaysim had a super employee in porting, but now she is in a different office. She was so kind to still do it for me when I emailed her directly. If you're calling up for anything, you might as well request your personal details be updated to back-of-house porting office to be confirmed. Makes porting on weekends and outside office hours automated

        • @lovepeoplenotmoney:
Thank you for this good advise. I will do this to ensure smooth porting. So far, so good. Only found the Oz Bargain site 2 months ago and saving money on sims after staying with same company for years.

        • @Rggmcl: Just for comparison, the best deals are $10 for 3 months but the data offered back then was maybe 2GB. We're really not saving much money in the current market. But anything <$15 a month is considered acceptable.

        • @lovepeoplenotmoney:
Haven't seen anything at $10 for three months. Don't need lots of data as we have NBN at home. I agree certainly will be staying <$15 a month.
Current market certainly a little "shaky".

  • It would be a great plan if this can be used every month

  • Good deal but my workolace has no telstra coverage only optis n vodafone..

  • Obviously a govt advisor

  • Can these sims be used in a Telstra wifi modem?

    • Can these sims be used in a Telstra wifi modem?

      YES :)

FYI just had a chat with boost support. Here's the response: "The half price SIM card we have online is for new SIM Cards of $40. You can only use that SIM Card to port a number from another provider or activate a new number. Since we value you as our customer, we can help you activate a $40 SIM for $20 with your existing Boost number as one time courtesy."

    • Someone neglected to mention the SIMs are for new numbers only, recharges are usually receipts or codes.

Seems like a standard set of instructions are needed to be copied and pasted on OzB for purchases, and tailors different types of products, services, and sellers.
