Good news. I like it but maybe in the forums??

  • So why is it saying "up to"?

    • Boost does bonus data on Sunday's.

        • +18

          Criminals??

People don't use data on the weekend now??

Step away from the keyboard… you're taking things a little too seriously…

        • +4

They are quite clear about the $25 plan including 1.5GB + 1GB every weekend. That's how it's advertised and it's not even a small print thing either.

        • +1

How do you play Pokemon Go if you don't use data on the weekends?

      • +3

Actually it's bonus data on weekends, not just Sundays.

        • +2

It's actually from 9pm on Friday night even :)

      • +2

Or you can go with Fruit Mobile which gives you upto 1TB of data to use. (0 bytes + 1TB to use during 1 t_P after 12am each Sunday BONUS)

  • +10

28 day expiry instead of the previous 30 days also. The $40 plan with extra weekday data might be good for some but I'll stick with the 30 day $20 plan. Glad to see that we don't have to upgrade to the new plans:

Customers who were with Boost Mobile prior to 12 July 2016 have the option of remaining on their current offer

    • +4

Agreed, the $20 plan is good value, excellent that they are not cancelling it.

      • with only 1GB of data as weekend data doesnt roll over?

        • Do you know of a cheaper plan for 1Gb, unlimited text and a bit of voice? Not everyone wants to pay for 5Gb+!

        • +1

@mskeggs: On Telstra network, no. But Vaya on the 4G Optus network gives 1.5Gb, unlimited text and $650 voice for $18.

        • +2

          @mskeggs: Yes Vaya $18 1.5GB and $650 of talktime.
Thats what I am on and its very good with Optus 4G

        • @mskeggs: Kogan, Aldi, Gaya.

        • @Gershom:
Thanks. I hadn't noticed the ALDI $20 plan. I was on ALDI mobile until mid last year.
Optus coverage was a bit flakey where we are on Amaysim, so Boost or ALDI are preferable.

        • @mskeggs:
Jeenee is pretty good too. $18/month for 1.8 GB, 200 mins calls, unlimited text. Optus network though.

      • If you need more data, then the new $25 plan has advantage. Otherwise the $20 plan is better value.

    • +10

Yep it's the hideous 13 month year.

      • -7

        Great for women.
        Mensuration cycle is 28 days.
So if you're a woman and your day is the "Third"… then next month ideally it will be the third, and the month after that, and after that.
And if the cycle is broken at any point, you know something's up.

    • Damn, I just bought a $40 prepaid for $20 but won't be activating until 15 Aug 2016. Will I be forced into 28-day period?

      • +4

Yeah they'll put you on the new $40 Unltd+ plan if you activate after 12 July 2016:

Any customers activating from from this date, will automatically be on this new offer.

Additionally, users who have a $20 starter pack will be put on the $25 Unltd+ plan (won't need to pay the $5 difference):

New customers who activate a $20 Boost Prepaid SIM from July 12 2016 will activate on Boost UNLTD Plus™ and will receive the inclusions offered in our new $25 ULTRA+™ recharge

        • That looks really fair to me, especially for Boost/Telstra haha…

        • +1

Cool, I have a few of the $20 starter packs that I got for $5, which I plan to alternate with the $1 Woolworths sims, averages out to $3 per month for the next 14 months :)
The Boost call allowance of $100 is a bit stingy though, so I tend to use Whatsapp for calls when I can.

    • +5

So you're basically paying for an extra month now with the -2 days, doesn't seem that good a deal now does it?

I'll stick to aldi mobile $25 Unlimited Calls and text with 2GB data.

      • +2

Just ported to Aldimobile. Same $25 offer.
        Glad I did.

      • +1

It's been that way for a while. Using auto recharge gets you a full month as a bonus.

    • Its been 28 days for a while now….

      • +2

Its been 28 days for a while now…

On Boost? It's still 30 days. I recharged on the 24/6/16 and it shows expiry as 24/7/16

Webpage 'up to 30 day expiry'

    • Link goes to the $25 plan… I'm assuming new customers can't select the $20 plan anymore?

      • Yeah no longer possible, the $20 plan finished for new customers 12 July when this $25 plan replaced it.

  • Looks like Boost is taking the heat from the competitions. Win win for consumer at the end of the day.

    • +28

Boost just added a 13th month to the year and you call it win win?

      • It'll be a win for some. At an extra $40/yr the Int'l Calls & Texts makes it worthwhile for me, with the added data a bonus.

      • +1

Oh, didn't realize that. But win for some like Yoz said…

      • If you pro-rata over a 365day year it ends up being a $42.37 per month plan. For someone that's looking for an affordable 5gb plan, run on telstra reception with no lock in contract, I consider this a win!

    • +3

Blinded like most consumers. Actually claiming they're "winning" as value is taken away from them lol.

    • +3

At least they live up to their name, all they're doing is boosting their bottom line!

  • +6

More and more telco doing 28 days trick.

    • +6

and then when it's been industry standard for a while, one of the smaller guys will come back with an amazing 30 day plan and get a lot of attention and they'll all follow.

      • Hat's off to you, sir.

    • Shhhhhhhhhhhh don't let them know about this, pleassseeee!

  • +13

Screwing people in plain sight with this 28 days bullshit.

  • +3

Why choose this over something like the Aldi L or XL? The XL is only $35, unlimited calls and text, 5GB of data, Telstra 4G, 200mins international and 30 days credit expiry.

The L plan is even better value if your a high talk/average data user, with unlimited talk/text and 2GB for $25/month.

    • +9

Coverage, for some people. Aldi is on the wholesale network, which means that some regional and remote areas are excluded.

      • Is boost on the wholesale network too?

        • +8

From my understanding it's on the proper Telstra Network (boost is owned my Telstra).

        • @SirFlibbled:
They claim otherwise on the Ownership front.

        • +3

          @SirFlibbled:
Boost is definitely on the full Telstra network, not just Wholesale. They are the only Telstra MVNO who get this deal.

Telstra denies that it owns Boost, but they definitely have a very close relationship.

    • +1

I switched from Aldi because there was no 4G. I will probably look at switching back now that they provide it.

    • +1

Also no international calls with the others.

I think Boost is the only service with telstra coverage + International calling.

      • aldimobile provides international calling included with some of their plans:

Coley's comment that you were replying too.

        Source: https://www.aldimobile.com.au/plans/valuepacks

        • boost can do intnl roaming

      • Woolworths has Telstra wholesale (not retail) coverage and $200 international calling on their $45 plan (which is currently on sale 30% off as per another OZBargain post)

  • So what happens with all the old boost $20 prepaid stater packs?

    • +2

New customers who activate a $20 Boost Prepaid SIM from July 12 2016 will activate on Boost UNLTD Plus™ and will receive the inclusions offered in our new $25 ULTRA+™ recharge, including:

1.5GB plus an extra 1GB to use each weekend
      100min standard voice minutes
All to use in Australia within 28 days or next recharge

      • Excellent. Thanks

    • +2

the link states that old customers on their current plan can remain on the plan.

      • +2

That'll last for 6 months or so, then they'll kill it off.

  • would be good if they included international mins

    • +2

      You mean like this?
"New Boost UNLTD Plus™ $40 and $50 plans will include unlimited international calls & text to 10 countries"

      • +2

that's only 10 countries, i'm talking minutes so it can be used to call other countries.

  • can you use credit to buy play store apps as well like you can with telstra prepaid?

    • +3

No there's no Telstra credit with Boost mobile.

  • +1

Boost use a proper Telstra network correct? SO hopefully much better coverage than Optus / Vodafail

    • +2

Yes, it's the full Telstra network. The only caveat is that data speeds are capped, compared to Telstra's own prepaid and post-paid users.

    • +1

SO hopefully much better coverage than Optus / Vodafail

      When it's working that is.

Vodafones metro coverage has been excellent for a few years now. I switched to Virgin from Vodafone for the price ($40/m 10gb data that rolls over) but I had no problems with coverage on Vodafone for ages.

      • Correct, when it's not down. Also many suburban and regional areas Voda or Optus still have similar or better reception and speeds. It really does depend on where you are. Check your most used/needed area first for strong/any signal and speed, Buyers Beware with Prepaid ( no 30 day Voda postpaid/contract trail offer here ).

      • +1

Vodafones metro coverage has been excellent for a few years now.

Depends it's a fail in any of the newer suburbs in Melb, west or north, SOS only.

        Hence the name VODAFAIL.

  • Yet can you make 12** calls?

  • +12

They're practically adding an extra month to the year whilst simultaneously increasing the cheapest plan by $5

    • Good pick. Hadn't noticed this until you mentioned it.

    • +1

I will be porting away now, this just seals it.

  • What happens to the $20 vouchers ?

I have 4 vouchers bought when bigW had thier 10% discount but I am not a boost customer yet.

If I activate a $20 starter kit it means I will be placed on the new $25 plan and then what ? How do I utilise my $20 vouchers 😩

    • Activate your $20 starter kit today, and you can choose between the old $20 30 day plan or the new $25 28 day plan. Your recharge voucher will extend whatever offer you choose ( if activated today ). If you activate after tomorrow ( on the only option ( new $25 plan ) you will get that with any $20 re-charge vouchers.

  • +5

The 28 Day Expiry is a deal breaker for me, the plans are actually more expensive if you can't make use of the data or the international calls. True current style of marketing, dress up on a pig, and hope no one notices. The 28 days takes any benefit you think you are receiving away, because you are actaully paying for it.

  • +2

Just noticed the 28 days change. Will try to stay on my original plan.

  • When is this launching? I can't seem to find it on the website.

    • Tomorrow 12/7

  • +1

28 day expiry is a bit of a bummer, but for myself with family overseas, the 7% increase on the $40 plan is worth it. An extra $35/year for the convenience not to have to fiddle with VOIP, Skype, or whatever other method I've conjured up to make cheap phone calls o/s while I'm out is probably worth it…

    • Presumably you'll be calling overseas more than the 200mins that aldimobile provide on their $35 plan?
      https://www.aldimobile.com.au/plans/valuepacks
If not, that's a better deal (minus the slightly worse Telstra coverage).

      • My workplace only has telstra cover so I'm reluctant to move to another provider :) . Also who knows I might start using more than 200 minutes if it's included. Will start finding new reasons to call the family

  • +2

For 5 seconds, I thought this is for Boost Juice, unlimited drinks for $40 a month. That will be quite a bargain.

    • +3

I thought this is for Boost Juice, unlimited drinks for $40 a month. That will be quite a bargain.

Till you visit the Dentist ;)

      • +8

Needs to visit the Optometrist first ;)

  • +1

This is all bull to me. How about lifting the TALK time on the $25 plan for instance,I have minimal use for all the data, but need local calls. With my present plan of $40 just to gain unlimited talk time, not the data!.

I think it may well be time to go Aldi, as I will also be incurring an effective price rise due to the 28 day cycle. Smoke & mirror marketing !!.

    • Yeah go the $20/$25 plan on ALDIMobile if you need talk time, the $20 Boost plan was just good for those who don't need much talk time - however for new customers there isn't any point getting the new $25/28 day Boost plan over a $20 or $25/30 day ALDIMobile plan.

      • +2

I think the Woolworths prepaid offers look pretty good too.
If you're a Woolworths Rewards member, you get 10% off recharges so that brings the $30 recharge down to $27 which is only $2 more than Aldi but for that you get 3GB of data, unlimited calls & SMS, $100 credit for international calls and you can roll over your unused data up to 15GB. It's also a 30 day expiry.

        • Looking at it I would probably agree. I suppose it depends on how much the per minute costs are for international depending on where you are calling.

  • +1

Wondering if you can bypass the 28 day expiry by setting up auto billing like with the Telstra plans.
They allow you to set a particular date per month to auto-pay, then your credit lasts until the same day next month. I assume it should work as they use the same systems for both.
May need a current Boost person to confirm.

    • +1

I have my 40 dollars boost pre paid on auto debit with a 3rd party payment provider that boost have an agreement with and I just have one debit every x day of the month and that is it!

      • +1

But the current boost plans have 30 day expiry….

        • +2

The equivalent Telstra plan (Freedom Plus) has a 28 day expiry also, but if you set it to auto recharge on X day then you get 30 days.
My guess is that it will be the same.
