Jeenee Sim-Only Plan $35/Month - 8GB Data & Unlimited Calls/SMS

770

Whilst looking for a cheaper plan for my daughter I found this deal for 8gb. Possibly the cheapest 8gb deal at the moment. Also includes $300 international calls/sms but no roaming. If you are after a big amount of data this seems a sweet deal.

All Pennywise plans are month to month, and must be paid in advance by direct debit only. The bonus 2GB on the $35 Unlimited Pennywise Plan lasts for the life of your plan.

    Uses the Optus network.

    • Is that good?

      • +1

        Never had any problems.

      • +6

        Depends on your location.

      • +1

Probably tied for second best (to Tesltra) network? Probably the best secondhand network.

        • +17

Tied for second best is the same as equal worst when there are only 3 networks.

        • @jonsnow: True dat.

      • +1

If you can get a signal then it's fine.

        Telstra covers more area though

    • -5

      If Optus then pass
      Else buy;

  • +7

$300 international call value is included. It can be used for making calls to ANY country unlike some other plans which are limited to specific countries.

    • Wow you're right. That's really good.. great value plan!

      • +4

But no roaming ie you can't receive sms or call while overseas.

        • +3

Haha I personally don't care about lack of roaming (but understand some want/need it).
Roaming is ridiculously expensive so I'm more than happy to just buy a local SIM when overseas! I guess it's handy for receiving SMS bank codes though.

        • @illumination: that's it you got it. Sms bank not for phone calls.

        • I used an app that emails me the sms. So I can receive sms while overseas. The downside is that I need to have the phone that is holding the sim on.

        • +3

@ultraviolet: care to share the app name and link? Android ok?

        • +1

          @eisniwre:

Hi, it is called pigeonhole. Android app.

  • Good value, and have had no service issues once set up with them. The setup and porting process though was far from 'quick' when both me and my partner signed up (at different times over the last few months). Mine took some 4 weeks before I had the service working and it was just shy of 3 weeks for my partner. Communication during this process was pretty poor too. Great when on, but if you want fast.. you might want to pass.

    • In contrast, for $1 less, but some more restrictions ($34, $650 credit, and 7GB)VAYA were amazing.
Quick to setup, and the phone support was beyond helpful!

      • +8

        @master Is that sarcasm?

        • Nope not at all.
I had my signup fail halfway through, as I selected 'new number', not transfer. WHOOPS!
Called them, they fixed it for me, and the changeover between the sims was within 24 hours.

Since then called them for one bill mistake (which wasnt even amistake, it turns out) and they apologised and credited us, even though it was OUR fault.

Can't be happier, they've been flawless!

          In my experience:

          Jeenee Customer Service 8/10
          VAYA customer Service 0/10

        • @Zum: Everybody's experiences are different. I've been with Vaya going on 4 years, and customer service has been fine. Never waited long in a phone queue, issues always resolved immediately, no issues with billings. I have no idea if I will experience that same issues as others when I eventually try to leave the service. But by comparison: TPG, Exetel and Vodafone were all nightmares to deal with and I will never use those services again. No idea about Jeenee, but the number of people complaining about 1 month porting waits has steered me clear.

  • I second what Auspunkrocker said. My son ported to them. it took about two weeks for the sim to arrive. He got home from work after 5 on Friday and was going to ring them to do the final part of the porting but they aren't open weekends.

    • +5

Just FYI even if they are open on weekends, porting won't work. I have recently ported from Telstra to Amaysim and even though Telstra are open on weekends, they informed me that porting only happens Monday to Friday.

      • I've ported on Saturdays before. Amaysim to Telstra. Done in 15mins

        • Saturday porting it's brilliant very quick

  • +1

This is a big deal for me & many people I know. Thanks!

  • Just signed up, data is all I use.
    Cya Vaya

  • I was going to switch my husband to this but the few comments so far have said porting takes ages and customer service is no good… is this really the majority for people bc then I'll pass.

  • +4

Highly recommend Jeenee plans. Used to be with them a couple of years ago with smaller data pack and had to move to Spintel for data value. Been back for a couple months now. The call centre is local and has always been quick and helpful. They also give back by supporting people with disabilities. Ticks all the boxes for me!

  • I am currently with them and just switch to this plan from old $40 plan with 5gig to 8gig. Very happy with their services so far and porting are pretty smooth sailing for me.

  • tyvm

  • If I wasn't with VAYA I'd prolly consider Jeenee as they do have some very nice offers for the price.

Just a bit of a FYI, based on acceptable use policy:

Jeenee Mobile currently considers “excessive” use to be usage of more than 2,000 minutes free or flat charge per
month per mobile device (SIM card) unless otherwise expressly set out to the contrary in any rate plan.

    Vaya:

    (b) We consider 'excessive' use to be usage of more than 4,000 minutes free per month per service

  • +1

How does this compare to ALDI Mobile who is on Telstra network? any feedback on porting the number over with them? not keen on it taking a few weeks?

    • +1

I can't speak for Jeenee specifically but I just took a job which puts me all over Victoria and my work Telstra phone has vastly better coverage than Optus. If you're only going to be in the city tho then your probably wouldn't notice a difference.

      • As far as I know, from fellow commenters, Telstra's network is number 1.
        But Telstra-MVNO's are throttled back.

So they can only be good as Optus/Vodafone and their MVNO's at best.

Or another way of thinking is to say that all networks provide very equivalent reception and speeds, except for Telstra which is notably better but they really charge you for said privilege.

    • I find that Optus has excellent coverage in both rural and metropolitan NSW. More times than not, we find that Optus has better coverage than Telstra in rural NSW.

  • Are they using Optus 4g or 3g? Not interested in 3g low speed …

    • +1

used to be with them, can confirm it is Optus 4G.

  • +2

Very good plan esp no lock in. Has literally all I wanted from a plan at decent price, international calls esp.

And they help disabled Australians you say?

I'm sold will order a sim tonight. Thank you.

    • I think Jeenee stopped that as it was not financially viable.

      • +1

They stopped donating direct from consumers. As far as I know, they still contribute back, but do so from the business (tax deductible) instead of per phone service (not tax deductible).

However, think of all the money you save by using Jeenee instead of like an Optus contract.
You can always donate that to a charity of your choosing.

  • +2

Been with Jeenee for a couple of years now. Their plans have always been great in terms of value. Set-up was a breeze and customer service is quick and friendly. Being a local company is a super plus. They gave me an extra 500mb for 6 months as a Christmas present! Also every sign up helps out the disabled community. Really love this company and I can't recommend them enough.

  • +1

Unlike others my port was quick enough. Ordered 2 sims on Friday June 24th paying the premium for quick postage, got them Wednesday June 29th, started Optus to Optus ports 9am on the 30th June and completed by 1pm same day.

Sorry guys, but KOGAN's $16.95 will still be the cheapest with unlimited calls and 1 GB data.

    • +1

You can't compare 8gb to 1gb that's nonsense! Their 7gb is $36.95 so less data, more money and no international calls.

      • True

    • Jeenee currently offering a 400 minute calls, 2gb data, unlimited text for $18 a month. I won't use 400 minutes of calls in a normal month so that's a better deal for me.

  • +3

I already posted about this last week (weeks?).
Glad more people seeing this great deal.

    Just to sweeten more customers:
    - I was already on their $35 6GB deal, and they "upgraded" me for free
    - Spoke to someone from Land of Aus
    - I had paid a $70 excess charge months ago for using excess downloads… they refunded that money back to me
    - Never had any problems
    - Always had a pleasant time
    - I used to not pay my bills sometimes in a couple months (sorry I forgot) before having direct billing, and they never hated me for it as I always paid, and never harassed or tacked on bs late fee charges, just a very honest business

(This is someone who's jumped from Vodafone prepaid, to Virgin plan, to TPG, to Vaya, then to Jeenee)
Vaya used to talk to people from Bangladesh (?), always had excess charges and a hassle to dispute them, and would always disconnect my data service the first week of each month, then over charged me for using an old plan, and counted excess data in MB wtf)

Feel free to ask me anything.

PS I think the "$ vs GB" war is coming to an end. So grab these high data, low price deals whilst you can.

    • I'm kind of a little confused. Is it pre paid or a plan?
The website says that it's a month to month plan, so does that mean it's just prepaid that automatically recharges?

      • It is a plan, but there is no contract.
Let's say you pay for this month, and next month you are moving to New Zeland for a year… well you just tell them or port your phone number.

It is a bit like Pre-Paid in that sense. Except with pre-paid you usually pay first, and use up your paid credit after… there's no possibility of using more than what you initially paid. But with a plan you use it first, then pay for it later, with a possibility of going over your quota for data, or mms/sms/video call/calls/international calls etc etc.

If you're on a contract for 24 months, and you have 20 months left… even though you're leaving the country and can't use their service, you have to pay out the 20 month fee.

In other words, this is the best of both worlds:
        1) You use, then you pay (so getting ripped off is not possible)
        2) You benefit from very competitive quotas (data caps, minutes, messages etc etc)
        3) You have the freedom to stop or move to a competitor at any time

You get the advantages of pre-paid, and the advantages of contract plans… but not the disadvantages of either!

  • I read that billing starts when they send out the SIM? Which means even if you activate two weeks later, they already started charging two weeks before. Is that true?

    • Not sure, just ask them directly.

    • Yes it's true - three of us switched to them and we're being billed from Monday even though none of our SIMs have been activated yet.

  • has anyone pricematched with Vodafone or telstra?

    • 5% officeworks pricematch?

      • Well i pricematched my vodafone contracts. One was telstra $200credit for new customers, and the other recently Optus $50 for 10GB. so thought if a third-party telco may be able to pricematch….

  • I went through all of this for the three mobiles for my family and ended up swapping from TPG to Telechoice. For $38 per month you also get unlimited calls and texts although the data is only 6Gb. The advantage with Telechoice is that they use the Telstra network. We noticed an immediate improvement after being with a Optus reseller. Even though we live in a Melbourne suburb, our Colorbond roof was blocking the Optus signal enough that we had to go outside to make or receive calls! Surprisingly the quality of the voice calls was also improved.

  • Just FYI they definitely bill you from the moment they send the SIM card, not from the moment you activate the SIM.

  • Their plans look good, but no international roaming is a dealbreaker. :/

  • +1

Signed up, that is excellent value and I figure I'll just grab a $2 prepaid if I ever need to travel OS or I'm sure I'll jump carriers by then for the next great deal lol
