  • What's the difference between the bundle numbers?

    • The main difference I noticed is that some Bundle #s describe the SSD as "256GB M.2 SATA Solid State Drive" while others have "M.2 256GB SATA Class 20 Solid State Drive". I don't know if there's any actual difference.

I don't know why they have so many Bundle #s, but it could be different orders that were cancelled, or different batch numbers.

  • My work uses this model of laptop.
They are OK for a business grade device, the m.2 SATA is a nice addition.
Integrated HD Graphics 520 makes playing diablo 3 a bit difficult. Gotta lower that res down real low ;)

Yeah this laptop won't be ideal for gaming at all.

  • Hmm, this or a Lenovo X260?

    • um NOT lenovo. they have serious BIOS security issues. AGAIN.

While Lenovo has had a number of vulnerabilities and dodgy things lately, this one doesn't appear to be confined to Lenovo. Quoted from that article:

"According to Oleksiuk, the vulnerable code was provided by chip maker Intel to independent BIOS vendors, specifically for 8-series chipsets. This means that other PC makers are likely to be affected by this. At least one person has confirmed that the flaw has been found on a HP laptop."

If Intel gave bad reference code I dare say most will be impacted.

What's the realistic battery life browsing the web, watching a movie etc.

    12.5inch screen correct?

    • i got 9hrs out of it at most, brightness set at 40%
light usages like movies, youtube, facebook, office. no gaming at all.

  • -7

This sucks! So many people on here that up vote but have no idea what's good

    The worst parts:
    - Over a grand
    - This is a refurb
    - Only a dual core CPU
    - Basic Intel graphics
    - Design is basic, plastic, not true slim ultrabook

There have been similar NEW laptops for much lower than this

    • +3

      This isn't a refurbished unit.

It's an ultrabook, you don't want the CPU to be too power hungry.

What do you suggest for $1,000-1,100?

    • +3

I'm the first to jump on your band wagon usually, but there are uses for a laptop with spare M.2 slots, enterprise security hardware, and business grade construction at this price point. This is not for prosumers or mum/dad; for its target its very well priced.

      And don't forget;
      * 256GB SSD
      * DDR4 RAM
      * Latest 6th Gen Intel CPU
      * Not a refurb - cancelled bulk order
      * 2x (not sure if only 1) free M.2 slots
      * Smart card Scanner

It is still a modern device with decent features, and people who buy this dont need a dedicated GPU.

    • +2

So you're saying you can find an new ultrabook, 6th gen CPU with 8GB DDR4 and 256GB SSD for less than 1k?

      • -7

Well although Dell states "Ultrabook" it's not a very slimline model. DDR4 provides close to zero advantage over DDR3. And upgrading from 4GB to 8GB can be done for as little as $30

Here are past models and deals which I would suggest:
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/252069
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/252692
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/233057

They are expired but the point remains that much better deals have come and gone and will come again

        • +3

This has a better CPU then all of them. Bigger SSD too. Last one is a refurb.

I think your comparing apples and oranges in this scenario. I stand by this being good value for the specs and build on a new device.

  • Great price for an enterprise-class laptop.

  • UPDATE 7 July: Quantity still available: 139
It appears the Outlet stock list was taken offline but is back online this morning (deal was flagged as "OUT OF STOCK" at 5:24pm on 5 July).
I have removed the deal expiry.

  • A good deal. The clue here is the standard 3y warranty and Windows 10 Pro. These are executive, corporate spec.
These laptops are made to be opened, used and closed every working day for 3 years.
You will notice the extra engineering in most of the laptop, but particularly the hinges, keyboard and materials used. Respect.

    • Actually just saw Dell only offering 1Y warranty on these. Quality is there, though.

  • Received mine yesterday. Build quality seems really good. Looking forward to using this.

  • UPDATE 12 July: Price reduced to $999 (was $1,049).
    Quantity still available: 128

    • danggggggg, bought it at previous price, im trying to contact them if they can refund me the amount of change. otherwise, i will have to return it and buy a new one.

      • Same thing, received it today.

What did you end up doing bjl0v3s?

Can you return it even if you have opened it?

        • yes you can return it if you already unboxed the package. Dell has return without question policy within 15 days of invoice date. thats why i contacted them to see if i can get the amount of change back rather than return it and buy another one. im still waiting for their response.

        • @bjl0v3s:

OK, let me know how you go.

I called them up and they said they can't refund the difference. The only way is to return it and buy a new one.

I advised that's ridiculous and a waste of everyone's time. My existing laptop will have to be then resold as refurbished, but if that's the game they want to play.

I'm also disappointed at the battery life.

How long should you expect the laptop to last browsing the web or playing movies (in power saving mode), I read in reviews and expected about 8hrs, but it's only about half that, this is based on the full charge (2nd cycle).

        • @JB1: i ended up returning it, this is the 2nd time i have to return it. 1st one i had was a refurbished unit and it had a white spot on the screen. Dell advised me to return it, though they could have sent someone to fix it. then bought another one from this deal, which is the 2nd one and came up with a faulty screen too, white blemishes every where on screen.
about the battery, 1st one i could get 9hrs out of it at most (screen at 40%). i was impressed thats why i bought a second one after i returned the 1st one. 2nd was quite disappointing. i can definitely feel it drained faster than the 1st one. i think this is it for dell from me.

  • Really tempted to get this vs the XPS 13 for ~$1500 (Ebay code) can anyone tell me the main differences? This seems to be a good deal in comparison

    • +1

      E7270 vs XPS 13:

      • i5-6300U vs i5-6200U
      • 8GB 2133MHz DDR4 Memory vs 8GB LPDDR3 1866MHz
      • 12.5" FHD (1920 x 1080) Non-Touch vs 13.3" FHD AG (1920 x 1080) InfinityEdge display (assume non-touch as well)
      • Windows 7 Pro (includes Windows 8.1 Pro License & Media) vs Windows 10 Home
      • 1.26kg starting weight vs 1.2kg for non-touch
      • All black chassis vs black with silver cover

E7270 has slightly better specs (but you won't notice any difference in real life).
XPS 13 has more aerodynamic looks (wedge shaped plus very thin borders on display).

If you get the E7270 before 29 July, you can upgrade Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro for free.

      • Cheers thanks so much might just get the E7270 then !

I just initiated online chat but the outlet seems to be closed at this time, so the rep will email me with the status within 48 hours, I wish there was a way order now instead of waiting for them.

        • +1

I think the Outlet is only staffed during business hours (hence why they seem to remove their stock list on weekends & public holidays).

My guess is they should contact you tomorrow morning. If they don't, try contacting them again.

    price dropped to $ 899

    • I ended up returning my purchased for the original price and rebuying at this lower price.

I was a little peeved that between ordering it at $1,049 and receiving it, the price dropped to $999.

I asked them to refund me the difference given I haven't even opened it but they refused.

For $50 I couldn't be bothered going through the refund/purchase process.

But for $150 bucks I returned it and bought a new one at $899.

Dell will now have to sell my 2 week old one for less as refurbished, plus all the extra associated cost/shipping etc. All of this could have been avoided if they refunded me $50 as per my original request.

      • +2

Feel ya man. Done the same 3 times and now getting the 4th one.
Make sure that you dont receive one with faulty screen (white spot/blemish area). My first 2 purchase had this issue. The 3rd one was fine but then price dropped to $899 so had to return it.

        • do these come with GST receipt?

        • For those with faulty screen that you had to return. Are they all "As New" laptops or they were advertised as Refurbished?

        • +1

@zer1: 1 listed as refurbished and one as new.

          @roiboi123: yes

        • 4th one… I thought you were done after the 2nd! lol

        • Did you have to pay for returns?

        • @trarob: no. They will make an arrangement for collection of the laptop.

  • I have marked this deal as EXPIRED.

A new deal has been posted for the reduced price ($899)
