DO these have the Australian safety tick ?

If not, stay away as insurance wont cover you in case of an accidental fire.

You would have to be crazy to fit these to your house. They are illegal (as they obviously do not comply with Australian standards), and you would need an electrician to rip them all out and replace them when they fail. Electricians aren't cheap. My experience with LED lights from China is that at least half fail, and fail quickly. With LED lighting in Australia having dropped in price so much, it is not necessary to take so much risk.

I like it how they distinguish between "theoretical lumens" and "actual lumens".

    • Yep - I bought some cheap LED downlights from an OzB deal a few years ago. Half failed and the rest constantly flicker. I've endured them for too long and finally got fed up, ripped them all out and put in Osrams last month. In one room have Philips I bought about 2 years ago and they've been perfect.

Edit: had to replace a few of the transformers too - unsure if related

      • Philips is good, especially their spotlights and downlights. I also have Osram, which is equally good. I am sticking with brands like Philips and Osram from now on.

  • You can get 900lumens and 13w for this price.

Mods have added a warning saying you can't buy sell or install these in Australia.
Why isn't it mark as illegal or unpublished then?

    Bunnings are currently currently selling 5w Click LED's, either GU10 or MR16 for $5 per 4 pack….thats $1.25 each…..

Not a complete LED downlight assembly but a very cheap "35w" halogen retrofit option.

    • Be careful using the word "retrofit". Philips sells special "retrofit" MR16 lights which are backwards compatible with most old-style transformers (non-retrofit lights will flicker or not work). Other brands cannot necessarily be "retrofit" to non-LED-compatible transformers. Found that out the hard way.

  • probably not good or safe to buy going by this comment
