Optus are offering $20 off on the $85 plan for the Galaxy S7. 7GB data, Unlimited talk and text with 300 International Minutes. No signs of the Bonus Gear VR offer that Vodafone has https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/257756. Ask nicely and Vodafone offers $5 discount as they did for me.

  • I have home broadband with optus and is out of contract, can I still get $20 for combining two services?

    • Yes

      • Just chatted to Optus. I will need to change to $80 plan and 24 months new contract.

  • Has anyone mentioned or actually combined this with the current bonus 5gb for a second service with optus? Would be 12gb shared date for $65 which is a steal. I have the $40 10gb plan, so these two combined would be 22gb shared for $105 unlimited calls, texts etc for two services

I had a chat with an optus rep today. yes you are eligible for the 5gig bonus data if you have an existing service. So yes.. you will have 22GB

      • hmmm, they told me the 5gig was only for new services, I could 'change my number' and get the bonus 5gig but that was it.

    • Do you have a link to this bonus 5GB for the 2nd service?

  • Damn it! Got one two weeks ago with $68.5/m with uni student discount. It was 3.5G and 150min international calling. Am I possible to bargain about this and change the plan?

  • At what point does it change to $65/month when completing online order? It keeps showing the $85/month and hasn't applied the $20 discount.
Is there a promo code to use?

    • I think you're billed for the $85 plan each month but receive a monthly $20 credit to your account bringing it down to $65 per month

  • I used the Optus chat portal today to enquire about re-contracting to this plan, currently paying $89 a month with my contract ending in November. I thought I would only have to pay the remaining handset repayments of $132 but they wanted $192 for early termination fees as well :(

    • +1

They let you upgrade early if you are recontracting, i was quoted 170 total and contract ends in nov also, will press them for just two months not four early

    • +1

The eaerly termination fee should not be the case; they could just be saying that.. (abusing their authority) as it vividly and clearly states on their website an early termination fee is not applicable. http://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobile/phones in the description under mobile phones.

      • I think thier argument is when I signed into my Contract there was an early termination fee clause attached to it, it may only be recent plans that have no termination fees.

    • I was on the $60 SIM only plan (with $20 discount = $40 a month, 10GB data) which I entered into in March. So I had like 7 more months to go as it was a 12 month contract. They let me upgrade to this plan without any early termination fees.

Thanks for posting, I went to recontact and this option wasn't available on page, however it was on standard plans and live chat allowed me to take advantage.

  • If I get this right, the $20 discount (which brings $85 to $65/month) is a bundle discount? Or you can get this phone for $65/month for 24 months contract and still get the $20 broadband bundle discount)?

    • The $20 broadband bundle discount is a separate discount and you don't need to have broadband to get the $65/month deal. You should be able to get this phone for $65/month for 24 months contract and still get the $20 broadband bundle discount if you have an eligible broadband plan (only the new plans, not the old plans), effectively making it $45/month for 24 months.

This is what it says regarding the further $20 discount - You can save $20 off an eligible Optus home broadband every month when you also have an eligible Optus mobile phone plan at the same billing address and in the same name.

      • Thank you for the reply

  • Has any telstra customers attempted to get them to match or come closer to this offer?

    • Got them to knock $20 a month off the $95 S7 plan with unlimited calls and 10GB of data.

      • Hmmm @benjamin92, May i know how you do it? I spoke with the Telstra sales rep. And they refused the request. Thanks

      • I'm interested to know this too. Spoke with one person on 24x7 chat and they spoke to their supervisor who said they can do $10 off the $95 a month deal :(

      • Telstra chat only gave me $10 off also.. Can you share a reference number or who you talked to?

  • Decided to got for it. I was on the 12 month $60 SIM only plan (with the discount it was actually $40) into the 5th month. They let me switch without any early termination fees.

Sadly, LTE is slower than 3G around where I use the phone mostly. (around Oakleigh South area in Vic) So I have to disable LTE to get the best speeds. Sad. Wonder if Telstra or Vodafone is better in this area.

  • I just received a bill for $85 (instead of $65) and when I talked to an agent on chat, they said they will credit me $20 for this bill and the next bill will reflect the discount properly. At first I felt as if he had no idea there was an ongoing deal like this.

He said the bill is generated by the system and they cannot reissue it with the corrected amount.

I have setup direct debit. The agent said then the amount DDed will be $85 (unfortunately) and the next bill will charge $45. I hope I won't have to follow up on this again.

    • Any issues with latest bill?

I went to an Optus store yesterday to have a look at an S7 before I purchased this deal online. I was approached by a salesperson who immediately said they would match the online price, plus gave me the unidays discount with my discount code. Walked out with my new phone less than an hour later, and it only took about an hour more for my number to be ported over. The only thing is that the physical contract does not reflect any of the changes made to the plan, still says $85 a month, even though I saw the guy add the changes on his computer. But he wrote the new total for me ($58.50) on my copy of the contract and signed it, and told me to call him if I had any problems with my first bill.

    • How do you get the unidays discount code?

      • You have to be a student, sign up to unidays on their website (https://www.myunidays.com/) and it'll ask what institution you study at. You can't fake it, since you actually have to log on to your student account to confirm it. Also this deals is available again at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/262524. With unidays it's only $56.50 a month :-)

        • I got the code……..thanks

  • At HN the Gear VR is included in this deal. And you don't have too sign up online. I saw it on a poster.

    • Which Harvey Norman was this? The two I called said the Gear VR deal expired and not included.

      • Chadstone VIC.

        It was on the poster.

According to the poster, Gear VR deal is on till Jul 31 or while stocks last. Just point to the poster, the rep will give it to you. I would have taken it but I'm on an S6, so I'll wait till next year and hope they do the same deal for S8.

        • Thanks mate. I didn't see the poster but was able to get the deal by asking.

        • @Green Man: Did you call or walk in? The poster is hanging outside on the window.

What did you ask/tell them? Did you mention the poster, or did they automatically know it was included in the deal?

        • @lostn: I called before going in. He didn't know about the deal, but I told him there is a poster as you mentioned. He put me on hold while he checked and then said it was fine.

        • @Green Man: Not bad. You got yourself a good deal. A better deal than everyone else on this thread it seems. Most went through Optus and didn't get the Gear.

Oh and funny thing.. when I said HN Chadstone, I lied. Rather, I was wrong. I meant to say Knox City, not Chadstone. I got the two mixed up. LOL. I didn't even go to Chadstone, but I guess they had the same poster up somewhere. Oops. That's not a guarantee though, since you called two others who were unaware of the Gear VR being part of the deal.

  • Did they change it to $67?

    • +1

      No, still showing as $65.

Scroll down after clicking on the OPs link and you'll see the various plans. 3rd plan from the left.

      • +1

        Thanks

  • When checking out it's still showing as $85 even though I've added the right one to the cart. Something I'm doing wrong? =/

    • It should be taken off the bill when it arrives, you'll see a $20 credit on the bill (at least that's how it works with the $40/10GB month sim only plan, it's actually a $60 per month plan but they take $20 off each month when the bill's issued).

Go through online chat if you're concerned though.

      • +1

Thanks mate :) Do you reckon it matters where the plan is added from? For example, if I want to use the student discount it actually takes me to a slightly different page/cart that doesn't have the banner for the $65 deal on it. The discount should apply for "all $85 plans signed up for within <insert time period>" yeah?

        • No worries mate :) Yeah I believe so, but best to check with live chat imo, just to be sure.

  • Signed up through OPTUS CHAT and I received the GEARVR along with the phone bundled together.I was happy but later found that the OPTUS 4G sucks compared to VODAFONE in Redfern-Cronulla train line.

    • +1

How did you manage to get the gear vr ? Did you have to say something special?

    • I would like to know this also

      • I was not expecting to get GearVR nor i asked with Optus person. It came bundled together with the phone; Phone and GearVR wrapped together with clear plastic.

A big downvote from me. Optus has to be the most useless, disorganised company in history.

I put the order in Tuesday morning, received email requesting photo identification to which I replied that night.

Fast forward to Thursday, I've had no reply or update so I first tried online chat to which was like talking to a brick wall. I decide it will be easier to ring and get through to sales who tell me the order has processed and transfer me to despatch.

They tell me it should be sent either that afternoon or Friday, I will receive email telling me. Fair enough I guess.

Next thing, Friday night I get call from Optus asking me for proof of address(supposedly they sent 2nd email which they never did, my Order was processed a day ago supposedly as well wasn't it?).

I email proof of address and await a call back next day like the person who called Friday night said would happen.

Heard nothing by Sat night so I contact their Facebook who informs me It's stuck in their credit department still and I'll have to wait until Monday.

Now they just contacted me again on Facebook and told me to ring sales on Monday.

Does the left hand have any idea what the right is doing?

I ordered online because I thought it would be easier than going into the shop, how wrong was I.

  • This deal is ending tonight, and I'm undecided as to if I should take it up.

Regarding their 'New Phone Trade Up' offer. I'm worried that in 12 months when upgrading phone, they won't be offering a similar $65 deal. So if deciding to use said offer, I'd be required to sign up to a 24 month $85 plan. I take it that Optus won't move this $20 credit onto my new plan, which seems to nullify the benefit of the Trade Up offer.

  • Anybody got their headset yet? I ordered on the first of August and my order is still waiting for the phone to arrive :\

    • Gave them a call this morning… The Samsung galaxy s7 black is out of stock. They offered a different colour but I wanted the black. No ETA when they are arriving

      • Thanks for the help! I'll probably call them and see if silver is in stock.

I'll be putting it in a case anyway.

Edit: Order changed. Going to Dbrand to get some carbon fibre skin.

  • Does anyone know if this phone is locked to Optus?
