How does this Asus one compare to the $671 MSI? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/257851

    • +9

from a pure dollar:frame rate ratio the MSI would be the winner but the Asus card comes in with a slightly more up market quieter, beefier cooler, higher factory overclock, fan connect and RGB lighting.

      • +4

I like it when reps are straight talkers, definitely makes me look at the vendor more favourably.

      • Doesn't the MSI have a higher overclock? This is the non-overclocked ASUS Strix as far as I can tell.

        • +1

though all asus stix were OC'ed

        • +2

@vid_ghost: Well it kind of is, but by default, it ships with the normal clock, there is an "OC" mode which has to be enabled by the user

Edit: I should point out that even in OC mode this STRIX version still has a slower clock than the MSI

        • +2

@nug0: Your right! our mistake, not sure why the clocks are so low out of the box! With a few clicks in their GPU Tweak software we've easily been able to push the few cards we've tested to well over 1800MHz pretty easily.

RGB lighting is where the extra money is :)

      • Got any 1080s in stock? :)

        • +1

We're getting a few units a day from most major brands, but they sell through almost as fast as we can scan them in if not already pre-ordered, any particular model your after? I'll see if we can't get one allocated for you or at the very least get an ETA.

        • @evatech:

          Yes please!

Any of the below in order of preference

          1. ZOTAC GeForce® GTX 1080 AMP Extreme Edition

          2. EVGA GTX 1080 FTW

          3. ASUS ROG GeForce GTX 1080 Strix Gaming 8GB

Basically any decent GTX 1080 card that is not a founders edition and under a total of $900 AUD (or as close as possible!) :)

          Much appreciated!

          @REDALERT:

Sorry, we have a few Gigabyte, Asus and MSI models but nothing close to $900. There's a global stock shortage at the moment and Australian distributors are keeping the prices up, not to mention the GST on top. Pretty hard to get a first Tier brand under $1100 at this stage.

  • .. and this one - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/257716

Price isn't very competitive at the moment, sorry.

I give the rep credit for posting this and straight talking about it, as it's in stock but honestly $745 is just a standard, if not inflated price. Considering overseas options like EVGA with international warranty for $600 delivered….. this is kinda…… ummmm nope.

    • +1

Careful with those EVGA international warranties, unless it's changed recently it requires you to ship the card back to the region service center which in Australia happens to be Taiwan with a 6-8 week turn around on top of the international shipping costs.

That being said, it's still only applicable in a worst case scenario of a faulty card.

Like we mentioned above, not a bargain for a GTX 1070, but a pretty good price for a Asus Strix GTX1070 with local warranty.

      • +2

Cant knock you on the Asus Strix argument: the coolers are usually very good and OC well. I guess I'm coming from the "ozbargain" angle and it's not much of a bargain thats all. But props for posting anyway. GLWS

First to list an ASUS 1080 around $1k will get my money.

  • Hey Rep, you seem to be answering questions quote reasonably, is there any chance of you guys doing a deal on the MSI gaming X 1070? For a similar sort of price to the current eBay deals from Futu and pcbyte?
(I could order from them, but they've exhibited some dodgy practices of removing a listing to hike the price for sales, which leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I'd rather not give them the business)

    Cheers
