Anything less than an i5, don't expect too much.

No one said what they were expecting.

What kind of stupid comment is this? A Cherry Trail Pentium is plenty for all day to day tasks and Core M3 is a significant step up from that…..well, unless you are one of those dumb gums that leave all the bloatware running in the background.

  • Reached the end of the checkout, then remembered the battery life on these isn't quite as good as you'd expect for a Core M laptop, so wouldn't be ideal for the person I'd be getting it for.

That aside, still an outstanding deal.

  • Being a two-in-one I'm guessing it's passively cooled. :(

Looking to spend around this or a little more for a smaller form laptop with some go, but it seems they skimp on the cooling to squeeze everything in.

      There's air vents..???

      • Yeah, you're right. Just got home and did a little research, not a bad deal but I don't get paid until tomorrow.

        • Still note I doubt the cooling is anywhere near as good as thicker laptops, but for 7w TDP it doesn't really need to be. ~3W can be passive cooled so 7w with mini fans will work fine I assume.

        • @dyl: Yeah, that's a good point. In the end, I think I'll have to suck it up and get something in 15.6" for the improved specs to price ratio.

        • So, put it on your credit card.

        • @jelko: The measly $400 limit doesn't quite stretch that far.

        • @OverburdenedWarrior: what credit card gives you only $400 credit?

        • @alwayseric: Commonwealth Bank's low fee card. I don't mind the limit, easier to pay off things during the interest free period.

        • @dyl:
I have the yoga 900s and cooling is not a problem

    • The problem is you shouldn't be looking at a Core M laptop since they're very low TDP and designed to be passively cooled. They're good for bursts of performance like web browsing or office work but throttle down quickly under sustained loads.

      • That's a fair point. I've been spending the last few days browsing for laptops, leaning towards settling on a 15.6" with i5-6200u. I've come from a Asus T100 running the Atom Z3775 though, so no matter what it'll be an improvement. (Not to discount the abilities of the T100, if it wasn't passively cooled and could handle temperature under load, I wouldn't be switching.)

    700CM is a big screen!

    • You'd get quite the workout using its touch capability!

  • -3

Terrible battery life..rated at 7h. Will get closer to 3

  • Any good for Photoshop/Lightroom CC?

    • Screen is below average:

Colour accuracy left a lot to be desired as well with its 61.6% sRGB coverage, so this isn’t a laptop you’ll want to use for colour sensitive work. Its black levels of 0.36cd/m2 weren’t as deep and rich as I would have liked either, but it's around average for a laptop of this price. Its contrast ratio of 744:1, while not amazing, was also around what I would expect. A brightness of 335.1cd/m2 was very good, however. link

    • I have a n3700 2in1 and it will run LR passably, not super snappy, but good enough for processing away from home. The M3 processor is about 50% better than the n3700, so I expect it will be ok. 4GB of RAM is going to hinder you in PS I think, especially if you try to open both LR and PS.

  • The deal of last month from Amazon UK is better.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/247327

    • was better

    • Yes, except that it was 2 months ago, relies on a conversion free credit card, and does not have warranty.

And it's posted by the same person so probably no need to remind them.. Lol

  • Anyone knows if it's capable of output to 2 external monitors? Via a dock or something?

"Core m3" - me: NOPE (this laptops worth $599 so no bargain here)

    • To be honest, there does NOT seem to be a big difference in power drain or performance between the Core M3, M5, and M7.
The M3 can out perform the M7, depending on the thermal design of the device.

      It goes:
slow Atoms not worth buying -> Latest Intel Cherry Trail Quadcore Atoms -> Core M3/5/7 ~ Core i3 ->
      Core i5/i7 -U series -> Core i5/i7 45W series ~ Core i3 desktop ->
      Core i5 desktop -> Core i7 -K series 90W desktop

  • Great deal… I just so don't need another computer :)

  • Good deal. M3 is a great little chip.

can it used as a yoga mat?

Earlier this year, the Lenovo 700 11 was retailing for $1,099 & sometimes $899 on sale. It was out of my price range, but when I tested it in JB, I really liked the keyboard, screen & thin form factor. For a quality ultra or netbook, I think this a good price - would be ideal for students

  • I purchased a Lenovo Yoga 900 yesterday at JB (with the 5% discount on top of their 15% off sale), but didn't know about the cash back offer. Thank you for posting!!
