Wii Console (Refurbished) + Wii Sports (Preowned) - $28 @ EB Games

3530

OK, this is one for those families who may have missed out on the Wii phase, may have not bothered, may now have kids old enough to play that weren't able to before. Whatever the reason, this is basically chump change for a fun console that can be easily soft-modded to play from USB to get more life out of it! Buy a 2nd remote and have fun :)

What's included?

Nintendo Wii Console (Refurbished, colour of console may vary)
Nintendo Wii Remote
Nintendo Wii Nunchuck
AV Cable
Sensor Bar

        • Those aren't genuine remotes.

Try calling around local EB stores and seeing if they have any remotes left (pre-owned)

Got mine yesterday. nunchuk was as if it was soaked in urine for a week, the connector is rusted through too. But I don't care much for the nunchuk, still a pretty awesome deal considering they gave me free delivery!

So the standard EB games sterlisation procedure?

I received mine yesterday. The sensor bar wasn't working, though the Wii and remote were fine. They exchanged the whole lot for me in store. Then the game (Wii Sports) wouldn't load. So I went back and got a refund. Oh well.

The employee at EB said they only test if they power on before they sell them.

    • You can always softmod it and load games from USB hard disk.

      • I got one with the motion plus remote. Seems a bit jittery when using the remote and sometimes hard to get the cursor on the screen, not sure I can compare it but if the sensor bar was faulty would it be obvious or could this be a problem?

        • Did you try calibre it?

        • @superforever: The only option I could see is the sensitivity.

        • @poop:

Also a settings where you have put the sensor bar, top or under the TV.

        • @superforever: thanks got that one too. Maybe it's just my living area set up. I'll try it a bit further away. Thanks

  • My sensor bar and controller IR was broken, so going to get them replaced on sunday. Console works though when I use a mates sensor bar and controller :)

  • So i turned on my Wii and then it said press A .. I pressed A and nothing happens?

Would anyone know whats causing this? and how to fix it?

    Thanks

Have you synced the remote? Press the red button on the back of the remote (take off the battery cover or use a pen/pin). Then press the red button on the wii (it's hidden under the sd card flap on the front).

      • Oh thanks for that, you legend!

I synced it now its working .. you only need to sync it once right? ( not every time you turn it on?)

Also is pressing the shut down button on the console the only way to turn it off?

( i dunno if im paranoid, but isnt turning the wii off with the shut down button bad for the wii?

like how we dont shut down a pc with the shut down button but press on Start -> Shut down)

Also, my Wii didnt come with the hand wrist wrap rope thingy, any idea where to buy one? and costs?

        • I don't think any of them came with the strap - i bought six from china for like a dollar (on ebay) but it will be ages before it's here.

You only need to sync once :)

I'm not too sure about the shutting down thing, I thought I turned it off when I was testing it out (it was a gift) but when I came back it seemed like it was still on. Maybe try holding the power button on the remote/wii?

          oh, i see

$1? that's cheap man .. could you link me?

        • @CBR250RR: http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/221927772282

I got these ones. No idea if they're any good though and I don't think they have the locking mechanism like they originals.

        • @poop:

          ok thanks

    • Have you plugged in the sensor bar?

  • If you install Home brew does that mean you can play wii games without a disk and also play game cube games?

    • You also need to install the emulators - it's a bit confusing tbh.

      • If its not too much hassle, could you please explain how it works?

from what i understand is it:

1.Download home brew and install on Wii through SD card
        2. Install Emulator ( game cube)
        3. Dump games on SD card
        4. Load games through home brew main menu

Also where do you get home brew from?

and also with the use of homebrew (by itself) you can backup Wii games and play them from the SD card?

        • I think there's a guide posted here in the earlier pages I just followed that. Sorry I'm not at home atm to have a look but can try later. The process you listed sounds about right though.
I used the method that sends you an email on the Wii. I think it's called letter bomb.

        • @poop:

          ok thanks

        • @CBR250RR: if you get stuck you could try asking Nintendo Live Chat

        • @poop:

forgot to ask, with softmodding can you use a USB drive instead of an SD card?

also anyone got a link for a Gamecube emulator?

also would like to know if there are any other good emulators?

also where are you guys downloading the games from?

  • Any idea how to sync the Wii fit board?

    edit: figured it out

  • Do you guys suggest running the eneloops till empty each time before recharging?

    • You're not supposed to open the packaging!

  • I did not receive a genuine Nintendo controller (it's branded "Madcatz") - was this the case for anyone else and if so, were you able to swap it for a genuine one?
