Toshiba 16" Laptop Backpack $10 @ Harvey Norman

870

Just backpacking on the $13 Targus deal(pun intended).
If you're lucky enough to find stock nearby your area then $10 is a steal but otherwise you could pay shipping. For anyone curious it was $14.95 shipping for me. Also check out some of the other deals below(links included).

Copied some of my comments below from the Targus deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/258217

I found another deal on Centrecom for the Targus bag for anyone else who can only pay shipping for the Harvey Norman one but wants a cheaper price(in-store only):
http://www.centrecom.com.au/targus-156-intellect-laptop-back…

Also another link for the Toshiba bag $25 for those who would rather pickup and I think it has more stock because I found a couple of stores near me that had some, it's just 5 cents more than what I paid for online + shipping:

Edit: fixed Centrecom Targus backpack link, copying the link on my iPad stuffed it up so sorry about that.

Horrible Laptop Bag. I threw mine away after 7 months of use because of the various tears and rips from the stitch bindings. You may have better luck than me, but I had to go out and buy a new laptop bag just last weekend as a result of this Toshi bag.

    • This backpack was free when Harvey Norman had their "Back to School" deal at the start of the year, and I received one.

It is quite thin and I thought it wasn't going to last more than 1 month, so gave it away. I paid about $60 for a High Sierra backpack 2 years ago, and it's going strong still.

      http://www.bagworld.com.au/shop/detail/high-sierra-access-17…

Maybe worth a gamble for $10 … but a waste of $25 if you are going to waste it, as it's probably better to spend the extra $35 and get a stronger, sturdier, more solid, backpack.

      • As they say "You get what you pay for". I firmly believe it in this instance and did splash out on quite a bit for my replacement.

    • I agree. This bag doesn't last too long. I have had one.

    • +1

Work supplied me with this bag three years ago, I work in a mine site and it's still managed to stay strong minus a couple of fraying edges.

It's been submerged in muddy water, banged around in a bumpy LV, exposed to high heats (left out in the pits) and freezing nights.

I guess it must be the quality of material that was manufactured at that time.

Stock in Rockhampton, QLD according to online store stock checker. Seems to be also there at Gladstone and Mackay, QLD. Ayr store south of Townsville, QLD. Atherton, QLD and Cairns, QLD too. So seems to be plenty of stock north of Brisbane. Brisbane doesn't fare well when it comes to any stock, doesn't seem to be any store in south Queensland with this backpack.

  • +1

plenty of stock in hobart store - just picked up a couple - cant complain for the price :-)

  • +1

    Launceston has some.

  • +1

On stock near me. (Vic - Sth eastern suburbs)

  • +1

None at hoppers crossing vic 3029

  • If it's anything like the Toshiba posted not long ago for $8, it's gonna have bad material and lining and non existent padding

  • +1

    Uhh, don't you mean 'piggybacking?'

    • +1

      Fail pun.

    • +2

I stand by my pun even if it was stupid.

  • +1

Worst bag ever i have been through about 3 of these. Luckily they are work issued. They fall apart really quick.

    • -1

Really? Do you treat them like schoolbags?

Using the 20% off CTEC20 code, same bag can be bought for 16 dollars on ebay for those without stock at their local HN

    • +6

The regular eBay price is $25 and 20% off makes it $20. May I know how did you calculate $16?

      • I'd like to know that too!

        • +6

          magic mafs!

      • +5

        Duh, you do it twice.

      • magic…actually I have no idea how I got to 16. Sorry guys :)

      • It's easy, he saw "20" in 20% off and "CTEC20" his brain calculated that it was $20 and 20% off that is $16.

It's like that movie Focus with will smith, where he puts a certain number pasted around to subconsciously pick that number.

Bought one a couple of weeks ago to use while my High Sierra bag went back for (lifetime) warranty replacement.

First tear showed up after 2 days and has three other decent rips now. OK for $10 but wouldn't recommend for everyday commuting.

    • +3

In other words $10 is about all that it's worth.

      • Fairly sure the sticker/salesperson when I bought at $10 pretended it had been reduced from $85. Quality is about the same as a $2 shop, detail is a fair bit better. I got two weeks use out of it and it solved the problem I had so I'm OK with it.

  • +2

Bought this only to find out that my 15.6" laptop doesn't fit into the laptop confinement. Don't buy if you have larger than 14" screen.

    • Just received mine only to discover basically the same thing. Mine at least does fit in the compartment, but only barely and the strap isn't long enough to reach the velcro. Not sure how they can call this a 16" laptop backpack.

It'll do for a backup I guess, but I'll still be on the lookout for a new backpack.

  • +2

Really happy with the Targus bag I picked up in April @ HN for $13. Been taking it to work using it to carry water in. Sits outside all day in a citrus orchard and I wear it riding to work about 18km each day.

  • +1

so much people here whinging about a '$10' laptop bag from Toshiba - probably made in China. Anyways point is, although not everything is 'You Get What You Paid For' but I can't stand people who think they can get a high quality product for a meagre about of money. seems like this website is so for frugal and 'stingy' people after all.

    • +1

Yeah I know what you mean, I was pretty surprised at how negative feedback this got it's like everyone just wants to put their two cents in. While I understand where they're coming from they should understand that this deal might not be for everybody.

For me, I just wanted a relatively cheap backpack for uni to replace my 3.5 year old one-strap as it was falling apart and it was kinda killing my shoulders. I'm really liking this new bag to be honest I'm hoping it will last at least a year as long as I don't carry too much and take really good care of it. It doesn't feel as awkward as my last bag and my shoulders feel a lot better too.

Perhaps adjusting the length of straps will help redistribute the weight and put less tension on them thus increasing their lifespan. As I said before it's probably not a good idea to carry too much stuff either because obviously it will put a strain on the straps like any other bag.

Sorry about the long-winded speech, but just like everyone else complaining I had to put in my two dam cents as well.

I just bought a laptop backpack. I did see this one, but read the reviews about poor quality and wear so I didnt buy it. I ended up looking around and ended up with a GVA laptop backpack from The Good Guys and am really happy with it. Its pretty cheap only $24.95 and has a good amount of padding in the laptop area, heaps of room for books etc in the main area and lots of pockets for everything else. Was actually surprised how good it was for the money and its not that bad looking either in a nice black low key colour. Pretty happy with it, anyway heres linky - https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/gva-16-inches-laptop-backpack…

    • +2

Sounds like you got a good deal I looked it up on google but couldn't find any reviews so I'm not sure if that's a good sign… But regardless if you don't mind I'll like to copy your link in the description above so that others are more likely to see it and I'll be sure to mention your name too.

      • +1

Oh cool thanks for that and I definitely wouldnt recommend it if I didnt think it was any good. Am pretty happy with it actually and it seems pretty well made too. Was a good buy :)

        • +1

Actually if anyones interested I got my laptop backpack with my ASUS X205 laptop which is a great laptop. It does everything I want it to do even tho it only has a 36gb hdd and 2gb ram its still great and at $279 was a great buy. Here's the link if anyones interested - https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/asus-x205-116-inches-qc-atom-…

    • Ok so I know I recommended the backpack above, but I want to make a formal retraction… its seriously a crappy bag. 7 days to and from uni and the seam in the handle has started giving way and the foam is sticking out. Really disappointed. It ticked all the boxes and seemed like a good bag, but it just doesnt wear that well at all, like seriously bad. Anyway I just wanted to mention it in case anyone buys it. Sorry for recommending it, it did seem ok initially :(
