Yep - every time I have ordered though with that disclaimer from Sony I have never once received an item in a damaged box. I sometimes wonder whether its to cover themselves from the couriers they use :)

For some reason i thought there is Sony 4k android tv for $550 :\

  • lol.

    KD55X8000C - $550 off $2,099.00 is not $1,699.00.

    • it does drop to $1549…

    • +1

TBH these prices don't look good at all for anyone that was around during their last 'real' sale :x

It's happened the last 2 years, don't know if it'll happen again in the next few months.

      • +1

        Ditto about the sale period.
About 2 years ago I did get a webOS TV from JB Hifi.
        55in 1080p LED… with 7 year warranty for $1,150.

Why was it a great deal?
Because Quantum Dot wasn't out. 4K was still super expensive. And the HDMI 2.0/UHD Standard wasn't fully standardised.

And I'm still thrilled with it because using webOS is a breeze.
I use my brother's $3,000 Samsung, and the 5 second lag between switching channels is a nightmare.
Then I hit the power button, and I (profanity) you not, it takes a total of 30 seconds to turn off.
That's not even mentioning the two broken pixels side by side in the centre of the display.
        TouchWizz on a TV… gross.

1080p still has a lot of life left in it.
Especially since no TV channels exceed it. And games are designed for it. And movies target it too.
4K is still getting there, I believe.

        • Ya I keep trying to tell people 4k is overrated cause game consoles let alone a 1k gfx card cant really handle them natively.

But the 4k upscale is really really good on TV's for some reason, like I can load a 360p video and it'll still be watchable/incredible.

I'm a fan of Samsung phones but wasn't a fan of their tvs cause no Android eco system. My dad kept spending $1k on 42 inch sanyos/vivid and they were always crappy and like picture cut off wierd resolutions, I pretty much forbid him from buying anymore until I saw something good… Thanks Sony :)

Also, KD55X8000C is on sale at JB for $1696 and comes with a $200 coupon which is cheaper than this deal (if anyone is interested in buying this model)

  • +3

and goodguys has it for $1495

    • +1

yes agreed. did the ozbargain way, and found that goodguys has KD55X8000C for $1495, cheaper than sony website. Agreed. Hardly a deal for this TV.

      • could you Price Match this at JB and still get the $200 gift card?

  • +5

I'll wait for their 1/2 price (12 days to Xmas) sales in December! I want a 65" 4K TV for under 2K.

    • Same here … quality 4K TV for 2K or under. That is my target price … until then my old Plasma 50 inch will do :-)

      • The kids are waiting for free PS4 redemption offer. Hopefully PS4.5 offer.
Until then the PS3 will do.

        • It seems unlikely given the PS4 is by far the best-selling console. They don't need to give them away, unlike the PS3.

        • +1

You'll never know what SONY will do to get rid off OLD STOCKS, but I rather get a further $300 discount rather than a FREE BONUS PS4.

does that mean I will be at fault if there is a hole in the screen?

    • does that mean I will be at fault if there is a hole in the screen?

It means you shouldn't buy anything on the internet.

  • 75" is the largest? Too small IMO. I have 20/20 vision with my glasses on and nope, no 4k unless the TV is god damned HUGE or you sit super close.
Maybe some of the smaller models are pretty good for a PC monitor though? With that whole 4:4:4 chroma weird thing, lets you use it as a monitor properly with clear text.

    • I expect projectors will become more mainstream with 4K. I can't see too many manufacturers going above 75" considering the cost of production and other factors like unit weight and the fact that most homes won't have the space for such large sets.

      • Yeah but maybe super lightweight OLED stuff will take off. All I know is I'm no replacing my 65" plasma until I can get 85" -> 90" 4k and it better have blacks and colours as good and be under $3000 AUD (so about 5 years…)

        • The market will decide but I think sets of that size will be very scarce and even then it would be likely they'd be targeted at the enthusiast crowd. The greater profits are always going to lie in the smaller sizes for the reasons I described above. Even in my dedicated theatre (4.5x6.5) I don't have the space for a set larger than 65" given the speakers and equipment racks etc.

        • Keep on dreaming. 90” TVs will never be mainstream. Its overkill for 99% of people.

        • @Orpheus: 15 years ago, 42" TVs were probably "never gonna be mainstream" I still remember the 50k$ first 42" Plasma at the home show like 20 years ago…..

        • @Trickey: They'll make em lighter and cheaper. The fact a 65" 4k at Aldi is 1k$ says a lot. 75" is for enthusiasts now (it used to be 65, it used to be 50 before that) - sooner or later, the 80 / 85 and 90 will be for enthusiasts.

          You'll see a 70" 4k TV for under $1500 within 2 years.

        • +1

@Orpheus: Right, just like no one would want to use a 5.5" phone 5 years ago.

Here we are 5 years later and it's pretty hard to find a decent 5" phone anymore which was the size the person saying how no one could want a 5.5" phone was holding.

        • @Diji1: That's only an extra half an inch larger on a phone. In a few years youre saying 10” phones will be standard? Not gonna happen. Same as 90” tvs selling as the mainstream as the only option, and anything else smaller becoming obsolete.

        • @Orpheus: Who said anything smaller would be obsolete or that 90" TVs would be mainstream? 50/65" seems to be the common size for a family lounge now. 32" TVs still sell, so does 40 / 42 / 38 etc.

90" will be an 'enthusiast' TV in the next 5 years tho.

        • You must have a stadium sized living room for 90". Getting a TV that won't fit in a normal sized car is loses practicality points.

        • 90" could be mainstream in the future when it becomes more then a TV but a smart screen, where you can open multiple screens, watching multiple tv channels, reading the news at a corner, live weather forcasst at a corner, kinda like in the movie Minority Report.

        • @tron07:

where you can open multiple screens, watching multiple tv channels, reading the news at a corner, live weather forcasst at a corner

It's not far away. Have a read about the features of Android 7 Nougat.

        • @onebutters: Well they are getting thinner, so you can push them back against the wall or even wall mount them. I have a 65" and I sit only 7.5' from it (eyeball to screen surface) It's great.

  • So many models, which one is the best pick(i.e less problems ,bang for buck, features)

  • still way over priced. 65X9300D already dropped to $3500 in other countries.

    KD65X9000C for $3,000, doesn't look too shabby?

    • +1

probably the best deal on that list. plus it can be software upgraded to support HDR.

    • I kid you not I bought 2 Sony TVs last December with that $3000~
      KD55x8500c $1300, Kdl65w850c $1600.
Cashrewards+ ebay 20% off all store wide + $120 visa gift card or from HN+ 6+month netflix.

That was like the best Xmas ever but at the same time I had to wait 3+ weeks and those tvs sold out in literally hours (no exagerstion).
