But they don't support Wildcard certificates ;)

Will Let’s Encrypt issue wildcard certificates?

We currently have no plans to do so, but it is a possibility in the future. Hopefully wildcards aren’t necessary for the vast majority of our potential subscribers because it should be easy to get and manage certificates for all subdomains.

        • Exactly!! Assuming it's just web traffic, LE will be more than sufficient. Windows/IIS is still a bit of a task, but it's doable.

        • Yes I saw…

    • What's the catch if it's free? Sorry for being skeptical. Can any website apply for this free SSL?

      Thanks.

There's no catch apart from the fact that you must renew your certificate every 3 months.

Let's Encrypt certificates can be auto-renewed by machine. There's no issue with having as many subdomains as you needs auto-renewed as often as required.

Having the certs renewed every 3 months is an improvement on security as far as I'm concerned.

        • Thanks for the answers guys. So does it cost to renew the cert every 3 months?

And is it right to say that every website should get it since it's free. I mean Why pay for something when you can get it free?

Especially for websites that take transactions?

          @sol3x:

All Let's Encrypt certificates are free. To anyone. For any use. Their aim is to make sure that all Internet traffic is encrypted.

The certificates are valid for 3 months, but renewing is free and can be fully automated.

A good hosting provider will make it trivial to enable the free Let's Encrypt certificates. I use DreamHost and it's as simple as clicking the enable button. That's it - from there on I have free SSL on my site.

        • @peteru: cPanel are apparently working on integration as well.

And if you are managing your own VPS, just look at CertBot.

  • (Edit: same as above!)

  • CloudFlare free SSL are the way to go imo.

Except you are routing your traffic through them.

    • SSLTrust is still cheaper if securing multiple wildcards :-)
