Optus 4G/3G Home Wireless Broadband - Now 100GB for $120/Month

190

Good deal from Optus if you can't get wired internet and are in a internet blackspot like myself.

Works out at $70 for 50GB PLUS you can buy up to 5 x $10/10GB top up packs, making it $120 overall per month on the 24 month plan. Previously this plan used to be shaped after 60GB but now it is only shaped after 100GB.

Be warned though, if you ever run into any billing issues, their customer service department is something else.

    Vivid wireless $89 unlimited.

    http://www.vividwireless.com.au/

    • Vividwireless is available in certain areas of Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, ACT and Central Coast. If you don't live in one of the those places it's not an option.

But to be fair, the Optus deal is restricted to certain locations as well.

Its literally the same thing, Optus own Vivid.

I signed up for Vivid a few weeks ago and its been absolutely outstanding so far. However I recommend reading through the Vivid thread on Whirlpool before signing up. Referral code for a free month when signing up is 71001

I don't believe it's the same thing, regardless of ownership. Vivid coverage is not available in many places where Optus mobile broadband is.

My understanding is that Optus bought Vivid for their 2.3GHz spectrum, which they were using for WiMax, and are seeking to migrate Vivid customers away from WiMax to allow their own LTE network to expand in those coverage areas.

    • I am aware of the Vivid deal as well. Have heard they shape their speeds though and thought some people would prefer Optus. Not sure if this is true or not though.

      • I think they cap at 10M down and 1M up.

      • +1

I'm currently using vivid, they shape the speed at around 11-12/1 mbps, same with Optus

Up to 12/1 Mbps download/upload in 2300 MHz areas. Up to 5/1 Mbps in other areas
Only good if ADSL 2 is not available dont expect good 4g speeds

    • I was going to say that they shouldn't be allowed to call it 4G, but I clicked on the link and they don't really. OP wrote that part.

      • Whoops yeah your right. In my area it is 4G, but not every area. Just wanted to differentiate it from ADSL fixed line service.

    • I got a solid 1.5MB/s download on steam. It is faster and more stable than my adsl2+ connection (4.5km from exchange)

"Be warned though, if you ever run into any billing issues, their customer service department is something else."

    Amen to that!!!!!!!

Hands down the worst. Im convinced this company is run by muppets!!

They started billing me for this new plan last month, after they had shaped my data after 60GB. So they told me somehow I have downloaded 35GB since it has been shaped and I owed an extra $40. Took me over 1hr of exasperated phone call and speaking to a manager to get that through to the customer service agent.

When I had originally asked about the magical 35GB that took me over 2.5hours on 3 phone calls and being transferred 12 times between different customer service departments and tech support to get a $30 credit and being told I must have used it, as this is what my sim said. Apparently I used 32GB in a day when the plan had been shaped to 256kps

      • ^^ That's impossible at that speed.

    • Took me 12 days to port to Optus all because they didn't get my Jenee account number. Best bit is and they still billed me for the whole month. Took me three calls to get ported across.

      • +1

I signed up for a new optus plan a few days ago and gave them very very very clear instruction not to port my number until Aug 5th as this was the end date for the telstra contract. BOOM last friday it was ported……..FML

Optus is great value for money. Im getting Unlimited 100mb Cable with FetchTV, homephone and 10GB mobile data with unlimited mobile call/sms for $95 but I do ask myself if its worth it for the pain of dealing with them!

    • +5

yea, use to work for the company, they got rid of everyone, and moved all the jobs to monkeys overseas.

look, anytime you deal with Telco, just threaten them with TIO

heck, just go to TIO anyway, win or lose, it'll still cost them either way.

      • The complaints lady I eventually escalated to in Australia actually bought up the TIO and said to the effect "Don't even bother going to the TIO, we have done the best thing by you by giving you the $30 and they will back us up say the same thing." I didn't bother taking it further.

Side note - I asked one of the 11 people I spoke to for a direct number for Optus complaints line and she gave me a 1800 number. When I rang it it was the TIO number. I couldn't believe it lol.

        • +1

Ha, always bother to go to the TIO, as I asid, it will cost them regardless if they are right or not.

And yes, post it on social media, forums, they need to stop underestermate the power of one

        • @optusprime: I was going to post on their Facebook but then I visited it and there was at least 1-2 rants per hour about some horrible thing they have done to someone haha. The post would have just got buried.

I might still go to the TIO though

Ha! I was a loyal Telstra customer for 15+ years until earlier this year when they proved several times over several months how utterly hopeless they were. They even stuffed up the apologetic account credits by doubling and even tripling them until honesty got the better of me and I couldn't lead them on any more so told them to stop because I had already been credited multiple times! After 6 months of absolute hell and being told to 'wait another billing cycle' just to discover the problem still existed I called OPTUS and moved everything over to them then called Telstra and cancelled every single service. Best thing I ever did! OPTUSs Products are great, connectivity, coverage & speed has been fine and their service has been streets ahead of Telstras… even when there was a problem they solved it then & there.

Good deal from Optus if you can't get wired internet

how is it a good deal if you're paying 300% more than other internet customers?

    • +1

Compared to either not having internet or the alternative plans mobile broadband plans out there it's good

      • -2

        it's good

Not when you're being ripped off…

        • Different services have different pricing…Who knew?

        • -2

          @esotericizm:

          Different services have different pricing…

As a consumer, the service being provided is 'internet access at home'.

Don't give a toss how the provider delivers it… if my neighbour down the road is paying $40 and I have to pay $120 to get my internet access, it's definitely not a bargain…
