    $100 cashback with ShopBack too

    • +4

Can't double dip..unique links for both promos.

      • +4

Worth trying to follow the Shopback link and then paste this deal's link in, or navigate to it via search. It worked a couple of years ago, but I wouldn't be surprised if they put a stop to it.

        • +1

          Can't hurt to try
Previously had to click through flybuys app to be eligible.
Also mentions not valid with any other offer…

          • +3

@randomusername2017: On TCB, it mentions you cannot combine 3rd party offers incl. Flybuys.
Also, NBN home BYO plans won't get you cashback on Shopback.

          • @randomusername2017: @puffinfresh Has your order been tracked on ShopBack?
I've signed up for Optus nbn by clicking through ShopBack app, searching for flybuys on Optus website inside ShopBack app, and signing up there.
But the $100 Optus cashback was not tracked. However, I didn't find the T&C on ShopBack Optus page that says cannot use flybuys.
Edit: It says that you won't get cashback on nbn Home internet BYO plans on ShopBack T&C now, but I'm not sure if it was there before.

            • @We: I didn't sign up. I've gone with the Southern Phone deal. The previous comment says it was in the T&Cs before.

            • @We: Didn't sign up

        You use real info??

      • +7

They already got my data twice from government site, plus one from Medicare hack, and good old Cambridge Anatica. Google has been mining my email for years. So I may just stay as a restricted-pleb

      • +1

That’s absolutely correct. They didn’t give me any points for the last deal, and after 4 months, they just refunded my bills, saying they couldn’t get in touch with the Flybuys team.

        • +2

They refunded your bills for not being able to give you the flybuys points, so you got free internet for 4 months. That’s even better, isn’t it?

      • -2

11 downvotes for saying the truth.

        OzShame.

        • You cant be that naive. You think all other companies aren't selling your info off to others. They all do it!

          • @Water Bearer: Optus was a victim of a hack, I don't think the issue was them selling it off.

            • @ltwo: Now you sound like the naive one. All these companies sell off your info. You literally see it in their t&cs.

              • @Water Bearer: So is the solution not to sign up to any services then? How would you post on ozbargain without internet?

        • +5

people don't like truth they prefer lies.

  • looks good. thanks OP.

  • +11

Warning: do not use the Optus modem if churning.

If you cancel before 36 months, you'll need to pay out any remaining cost of the mode

    E.g. $280.50 when leaving after 3 months, $255 after 6 months

    • I think you can also just return the modem when cancelling, but I'm open to correction

      • I was asking Optus about this for 5G home internet, and they said they only send new modems, and so they don't want them back once used. And also you can't BYO

They claimed it's pretty standard, despite being the only ones to do it. Even Telstra isn't so stingy.

        • seems like you can byo? website says it's available on the byo section, correct me if im wrong

        • +3

For 4G/5G you must always use their modem, for NBN you can BYO.

      • You can, and you can't. It's honestly the discretion of whomever you speak too. They have no use for the modems, they'll ask you to bin it most of the time or return it and optus just bins it. Or you can be a meanie and just contact complaints directly and speak to them about it there and see what they say as well.

  • I am currently on FTTN and would like to upgrade to FTTP but was unable to find the conduit inside the house (with concrete slab). Would it still be possible to upgrade for free?

    • +2

The NBN techs may have a go at finding the conduit outside your house that runs from the pit on the street. The ones I had at my place used a gadget to find the existing copper line.
Then running the fibre cable through the existing conduit from the pit to your house and then into the box screwed to the outside of your house.
Likely they will run a new optic cable inside a new conduit, if it is faster. All depends on how much time they have and their preference.

    • +1

Yeah they have to offer you a $0 installation option.

    • Mine did not have existing conduit so it took multiple appointments and shit planning on NBN's behalf but they ran it through then swifched us over to FTTP all for free.

  • does Optus use cgnat?

    • +8

Optus doesn't use CG-NAT for nbn.

  • +2

    For those into airline miles… 35,000 Flybuys = 17,500 Velocity = 11,290 Krisflyer

    • how much are those worth on average?

      • Depends on what you are using the points for.

      • +2

Should get you 1.5x of return trip from Sydney to Melbourne on economy. Or one way on business. Velocity economy is dynamic so can cost you anywhere from 7k points one way to almost 13 points.

        • Thanks. rough napkin math - about $275 per round trip (really depends on if you're willing to catch those pre-8am/post-8pm flights), 1.5x works out to about ~$410. Could be worth it depending on how many trips one. Personally I'd rather have the "certainty" and less thinking/hassle of $350 off coles.

          • @xrailgun: Oops my bad, forgot flybuys are 2,000 pts : $10, so actually $150 - $175 off coles. makes the miles a lot more attractive.

  • -1

    How about the existing customers?

    • +34

No one cares about existing customers.

      • what happens if you are on a month-to-month contract and you sign up to this offer?

        • +1

I took this offer just over 2 months ago and got the Flybuys bonus points yesterday.
          - used my own modem due to the 36 month contract/cancellation fee requirement if you take their modem
          - set a future connection date
          - getting it set up was a nightmare, their specs didn’t match the modem's so they couldn't help, the support is only via the App and is painfully slow and incompetent.

          • @VladImpaler: thinking of signing up. What specs was not compatible with the modem?

            • +1

@Brakus: I had an unlocked TPG modem but the only modem advice that Optus can offer is about their own modems, so when the settings didn’t align I had a godawful time trying to figure it out. Someone who has shifted providers more regularly - or is just more technically competent- could probably have done it easily.

  • +3

    Can you choose the date?

    • no

  • Ho fast they change over?

    • +1

I believe Optus are trying to get people to join for the flybuys points. What is happening for most, is they take many days if not over a week to process. If they are quick they will call you and request everything all over again. Otherwise customers call them as they want to know what the delay is. Optus over the phone will immediately sign them up but then put them sneakily on the same plan but without the flybuys. Terrible! Not only that but get every single ID including your photo ID from you, credit check and anything else that your connected to. Scam artists at work

      • Terrible practice if so.

can only speak from my experience: signed up 9am on a Friday, previous service disconnected around 3pm, Optus service up by 5pm. I did jump on live chat in the 2 hour downtime to check on activation.

        • did you have to call the previous provider to disconnect at a particular day or was this initiated by Optus automatically when you port over?

          • @Brakus: if churning, it should all be initiated by the new provider. note some providers such as Superloop may have a 30-day notice period (meaning you need give them at least 30-days notice if you don't want to be charged the extra month).

  • +4

Did not have a good experience with Optus when churning NBN providers for an econnex deal… they asked for way too much information eg occupation and how long you've been employed there
Took over a week to get it connected whereas other providers will do it same day or even next day
When cancelling it took way too much effort. Cancellation did not go through and was not notified, realised as my account was still active via the app - good thing was that they waived that invoice but I wasn't entitled to pay it anyway….

    Personally I would avoid.

    • -2

      This is prepaid.
Shouldn't gor for credit check at all

      • +1

not really. you dont pay anything until the invoice is generated and sent to you.

    • +4

Agree. Same experience here. Asking for so much information for a M2M plan is over and above.

      • +1

Where/How are they asking Questions, I'm used to just putting in my info choosing to churn and it activates soon after, is there no automated process like that when churning to Optus, instead someone calls you and asks Questions about your job?

        • +3

They ask you to fill 3 forms while chatting to an agent. The last one is where it asks for your financial and employment information. Agent convinced me that the data is not accessible by anyone and the forms are secured etc. I just gave up.

    • Yeah, they did credit check on me. I checked my credit report and confirmed this.

    • can you recommend other companies to churn and rotate?

  • +11

Did the churning with Optust time and it has been my worst NBN experience so far.

They told me incorrect things, „forgot“ to connect me and when I wanted to cancel it took me forever, prompting many many questions on chat….then I was sent another bill after being told I’m actually still active and had to chase a refund.

Just checked and I had to contact them 15 times due to billing and connection issues between Jan and May 2025 - horrendous waste of time.

    Bad processes, bad communication, useless……

    • +2

I had to contact them 15 times due to billing and connection issues between Jan and May 2025

      I lol'ed.

    • +5

Optus really are the bottom of the barrel I really can't tell if its worth taking the risk

    • +4

Yeah, I went with Optus by default when young & naive after moving out for the first time about 6 years ago and that decision haunted me for years. Once they get you, it’s harder than leaving ISIS. Customer support is non existent, entirely offshored. Got charged for Optus sport constantly after never opting in to begin with, would spend 2 hours trying to communicate with some bloke in India that I shouldn’t be getting charged for it, he says he’ll handle it, same charge there next month. Took 4 months and hours of my time before they finally dropped it off my bill, took 3 more months before I finally got refunded. 6 months later, guess what’s back? Optus sport baby! Then the whole bloody network capitulated and that was the last straw. Tried to sting me for $490 for the modem & WiFi booster. So naive of young me to not know I should BYO modem. Threatened to report them to the ombudsman for the Optus sport charge debacle if they made me pay for the modem to leave, they compromised and “only” made me pay $100 for the WiFi booster.

Don’t sign up with these crooks, ever. Went to Leaptel then churned to Superloop since then, zero issues with either company. Still using the Optus modem as BYO, not a bad unit. That’s the only compliment I’ll pay them.

  • This would have been better, but I only just found it now, and it looks like it's just expired.

    https://www.econnex.com.au/internet/blogs/combine-internet-a…

  • Thanks. Need to cancel Superloop which has 30 days' notice period..

  • Do all NBN providers need ID check? Last time I changed provider I swear I didn't need to

    • Optus does credit check

  • I have used Optus NBN previously. Very happy with them… and the flybuys points…

  • for fttp - during checkout, it wont allow me to choose which PORT - my current leaptel using port 1, How can I tell optus to use port 3 ?

    • from my time at optus, usually optus just takes the next available port, and there is an option on their system to choose what port needs to be taken, it might override leaptel, it might not, best to contact optus and see if they're any help (they might tell you to place the order and then they'll look into it, but no guarantees)

    • I've never been able to choose, it's luck of the draw according to customer service at the providers I've churned to and from.

    • At the start of the sign-up process, I ticked that I wanted an "additional" service and noted under Special Instructions that I wanted my new service activated under an unused port (2-4). When the Optus rep. rang wanting more information, I got them to confirm my instructions. They checked that a technician wasn't required to activate my new line and I was connected to port 2 with them about 11hrs later.

I was on the phone to Origin today about my utilities, the girl I was speaking to mentioned they are doing 50% off all their NBN plans for 6 months until the end of June. I checked the website and it only states $15 but she emailed me pricing for 50% off. If anyone is interested It may be worth calling them up.

  • could I choose the connection date?

    • That's what I did last time I was with Optus NBN.

  • can we use our own router?

  • -2

I am with Optus since 25 years on their oen cable and now on the NBN cable. Overall very happy, good speed all the time and always get a discount when renewing.
Minimal downtime is more important for me than moving to another backyard provider.

  • +2

note to people who contact Optus to speed up getting connected:

Flybuys will only pay out if you're on the plan called "Optus Internet Everyday Fast"

I've called up before to get connected sooner and they sneakily signed me up to "Optus Plus Everyday Fast" instead
Flybuys refused to pay out and had to get alternative compensation through the TIO

    • Isn’t every plan included in the flybuys deal?

      • no, just the one in the link

  • Once you place order do they ask when to connect?

    • no

  • How to use this and serve the 30 day cancellation notice by my current provider?

    • +2

Cancel your plan today sign to this deal later

  • Anyone know if you can use Telstra modem 3?

  • +1

So which deal is the best deal

  • +1

Talked to them on chat - you can delay connection for up to 30 days for those who are wondering

    • how?

      • They do it internally on their end.

        • +1

On chat they connect you on a plan without Flybuys only (!)

      • +2

I made an order and left the start date I wanted in the "notes" field on the order form. They processed the order with the requested start date.

    • +1

No mate, these assholes connected me in an hou, inspite of telling them a connection date.
