If using a 4/5c/5s this is a top phone to upgrade to. Fast, dependable and for $544 its a good buy. I bought my wife an SE (moved from a 5s) and she loves it. Good find OP!

    • +1

So it's basically a 5S with the better processor from the 6, is that correct?

      • *6S, except the super fast touch ID and no force touch =(

  • +2

ugh wish it was available in other colours as well

  • +4

OK price for a 5SE but not an Australian Market model.

No Apple Australia Warranty - No Two Year Australian Consumer Guarantee.

"1 Year InHouse Warranty By DWI"

For the risk, it may be better to put the money towards an iPhone 6, 6s, or even a '7'.

"We are an online retailer only. All our products are shipped from overseas and sourced from international suppliers."

"Do I get Australian charger with my products?
As we source our products globally, the charger will be the international charger depending on the country the product has been sourced from. However, for your convenience, we will supply with an adapter/convertor with the shipment so that your product is ready to use straight out of the box."

"Do you have offices or Warehouse in Australia? I see the numbers for different states.
No, there are no offices/or warehouse in Australia. We are an overseas business. The numbers on the website are the call centre numbers and your calls get transferred to Hong Kong at a local call rate."

    • +3

Apple wouldn't have released/designed this phone if purchasing an iPhone 6 was an option for some people.

      • -6

Sure, but the 6s will probably drop $100 in September when a new model is released.

This phone will cost AU$554 with the 1.8% fee for any credit card payments. That is not that great a price for a 16GB phone that will be about 4 models behind the latest one come September.

Also, the no local Apple warranty and the lack of a two year consumer guarantee add up to an notable risk should anything go wrong.

If one breaks the phone, gets it water damaged, or some such thing. It will be a total loss. With a local market iPhone at least one can take advantage of Apple's out-of-warranty replacement program.

        • Sure, but the 6s will probably drop $100 in September when a new model is released.

Read above, some people prefer the iPhone 5/SE for it's physical size, therefore the iPhone 6 isn't an option.

If one breaks the phone, gets it water damaged, or some such thing. It will be a total loss.

If you break or destroy your phone you will be out of pocket anyway, regardless of local warranty.

        • +9

How will it be "4 models behind" when it is the latest one, and only came out 4 months ago?

        • @tranqme:

If a buyer can cope with an iPhone with this screen size and this capacity (16GB). They might be better off buying the iPhone 5s for AU$359 from Telstra with $30 credit as well.

Then they have a local Apple Warranty and the 2 year Consumer Guarantee - only sacrificing a little speed etc.

If you break or destroy your phone you will be out of pocket anyway, regardless of local warranty.

However, with this overseas market model you will be out of pocket for the full cost of replacing the phone.

With a local Australian iPhone you will be up for Apple's out-of-warranty replacement price.

I was thinking this way -

          iP7, iP6s, iP6, iP5SE.

Many people can cope with this screen size, hence Apple designing and releasing a new device just to accommodate those people.

My partner and my mother both recently purchased new 16GB iPhones and have no issue maintaining their storage, it all comes down to the user and how they manage it.

However, with this overseas market model you will be out of pocket for the full cost of replacing the phone.

I don't think you quite understand, warranty does not cover negligence or accidents, if you break the phone you will be out of pocket regardless of whether the warranty is local or international.

Apple's out-of-warranty replacement is an additional cost and does not come free with their warranty.

Yes, but the 5s 16GB at $359 - being a Australian market iPhone with full Apple Australia Warranty and a Two Year Consumer Guarantee - might suit these buyers better, and be a cheaper risk free purchase.

I don't think you quite understand, warranty does not cover negligence or accidents, if you break the phone you will be out of pocket regardless of whether the warranty is local or international.

Obviously, it is you who do not understand. Apple offer an Out-of-Warrant replacement option for people who damage their iPhones by dropping them, running them over, or getting them damaged by moisture.

Apple's out-of-warranty replacement is an additional cost and does not come free with their warranty.

As I thought I made clear previously ->

That may be true, but you're contradicting yourself when you say that the iPhone SE is '4 models behind' yet you are recommending the iPhone 5S which is 6 models behind by your logic.

Obviously, it is you who do not understand. Apple offer an Out-of-Warrant replacement option for people who damage their iPhones by dropping them, running them over, or getting them damaged by moisture.

I'm well aware of the extra services that Apple offer,, again, this does not come free with the 1-year Apple warranty when purchasing an iPhone locally, so in this case it is irrelevant.

        • @tranqme:

That may be true, but you're contradicting yourself when you say that the iPhone SE is '4 models behind' yet you recommend that people should buy the iPhone 5S which is older.

No I am not. I am comparing also on price, and risk, and warranty/guarantee.

$544-$554 for a 16GB phone from a Hong Kong supplier "shipped from overseas and sourced from international suppliers".

$359 for a slower 16GB phone from an Australian supplier, but with $30 credit, and two years of warranty/guarantee and support for an out-of-warranty replacement.

I'm well aware of the extra services that Apple offer to their customers, again, this does not come free with the 1-year Apple warranty when purchasing an iPhone locally, so in this case it is irrelevant.

All services are free other than repairs that are out-of-warranty (eg. screen replacement), and a complete replacement handset if required (eg, moisture damage, or completely smashed phone).

I have seen cases where the Apple Store have refused to replace a screen on an grey imported iPhone. Also, they have refused to do an out-of-warranty replacement on a water damaged iPhone.

        • @A3Australia:

Righto mate, your argument started off that the phone was not current, which makes no sense because it is the most current iPhone to date, which you then continued to try to say that the capacity was not enough.

All services are free other than repairs that are out-of-warranty (eg. screen replacement), and a complete replacement handset if required (eg, moisture damage, or completely smashed phone).

You stated in your initial comment that anyone who purchased an international model would be 'out of pocket' because of it having an international warranty, where as that would be the case even if it had a local warranty.

        • -1

          No - I started like this->
"OK price for a 5SE but not an Australian Market model.
No Apple Australia Warranty - No Two Year Australian Consumer Guarantee.
For the risk, it may be better to put the money towards an iPhone 6, 6s, or even a '7'."

You stated in your initial comment that anyone who purchased an international model would be 'out of pocket' because of it having an international warranty, where as that would be the case even if it had a local warranty.

          No again. I said ->
"…. the no local Apple warranty and the lack of a two year consumer guarantee add up to an notable risk should anything go wrong.
If one breaks the phone, gets it water damaged, or some such thing. It will be a total loss. With a local market iPhone at least one can take advantage of Apple's out-of-warranty replacement program."

Also, with a locally supplied iPhone any problem that is not an "out-of-warranty" problem will be covered for at least two years because of the Apple Warranty and the Consumer Guarantee.

        • @A3Australia:

With a local market iPhone at least one can take advantage of Apple's out-of-warranty replacement program."

You did not specify this in your original post.

Regardless these international models aren't as bad as they're made out to be, you still get a 1-year warranty, it just may not be honoured by a genius in a shiny white store.

        • @tranqme: Just wondering if you could post the Telstra link for $359 as my daughter wants one and I can only see if for $399.

          @woyoyondie:

I believe you meant to reply to A3Australia's comment, but here is the deal you're after.

        • @tranqme: Thanks but unfortunately the phone is $399. I will post the same comment on the deal.

        • -1

          @tranqme:

You did not specify this in your original post.

Perhaps, but I did say ->
          "not an Australian Market model.
No Apple Australia Warranty - No Two Year Australian Consumer Guarantee."

Supposedly in this case you get a one year warranty from some unknown Hong Kong re-seller. You would have to return the phone to some presently unknown local repairer. This repairer may or may not return the iPhone to Hong Kong, or may attempt repairs here in Australia with who knows what quality replacements parts. How long you would be without your iPhone is another big question.

In the case of a locally supplied iPhone - this "genius in a shiny white store" may replace your phone immediately, or in the worst case ask you to return in an hour for your repaired iPhone.

          @tranqme:

The iPhone 5S is a significantly slower phone than the SE.

It is a 64bit chip, so it should continue to receive updates for a while longer as well. However I would recommend the SE as being (at least a little bit) more future proof.

        • @woyoyondie:

Thanks but unfortunately the phone is $399. I will post the same comment on the deal.

They appear to be running the same $359 deal every week around Tuesday.

However, for $20 more you can pick-up in store if you can get to a BigW.

        • +2

          @A3Australia:

Except it's not. The SE is a smaller version of the latest iPhone 6s/Plus, with the latest A9 processor.

It's currently the latest model, and even after the future release it will then be 1 model behind - not 4!

You might want to refer to Apple's comparison chart before making such claims:

    • +6

Don't spread the bs, Apple still honour warranty for model purchased overseas, the only catch is only 12month like most other market.

      • This is definitely true, GF just had her iPhone SE bought in Malaysia replaced at the Chadstone Apple store in Victoria because one of the volume buttons was slightly loose!
Very impressed at their willingness to provide a brand new phone for such a minor problem (button could still be used, but had a slightly awkward feel).

  • Is the SE a 6S in a 4S case?

    • its basically got all the same stuff as a 6s apart from the front facing camera, in a 5s size.

      • +2

It also does not have 3D touch, apart from that they are the same.

    • Is the SE a 6S in a 4S case?

Heh, heh. The 5SE is the size of a 5s, not a 4S.

    • -1

I own both devices and i believe they are the same except in few areas. The most important part is the shorter battery life(compare to 6s plus). The second is i believe the se screen have low quality stuff(compare to the image quality of the 6splus).

  • +1

Is it worth waiting 2 more months for a price drop in September, and then buy from Apple to get local warranty?

    • +1

No one can predict the future, if you want to wait that's up to you, but there's no guarantee the prices of the current iPhones will drop because of the release of the new model.

    • +1

I dont believe apple will drop the price of the iphone se. I think they will just drop their iphone 6s out of their store sale and keep the new iphone line and the iphone se, as the target customer of the bigger iphone is different to those looking to get the se(which is cheaper RRP and smaller in size). Just a personal opinion :)

      • I agree, I don't suspec they will drop the price of the iPhone SE as it seems to be a popular replacement to the iPhone 5/5s.

        • Mobilecity were selling the space gray version for $649 so i went to jbhifi and asked them to price match(i have a gift card that i want to use) iand at first the sales rep said ok(after all the physical store and same state drama). After he went to talk with his manager he came back and said no sorry we cant price match as the SE is selling very fast so nothing below RRP.

        • -4

Don't spread the bs, Apple still honour warranty for model purchased overseas, the only catch is only 12month like most other market.

No, the catch is, sometimes they may, other times they may not.

I have heard and read of cases where they do honour the warranty. Even asking the customer to wait until they can obtain the same overseas model by ordering it in. I have not observed these instances, or experienced them myself, but I have no doubt they are true.

However, I have myself seen cases in store where they do not.

I also have my own in store experiences where Apple Australia would not replace a screen on a private import iPhone 6, and where they would not do an out-of-warranty replacement on a private import water damaged iPhone 5s.

So the risks are there. If the price is low enough at the time you weight up the risks vs the price. I got a couple of years out of my Kogan HK supplied iPhone 5s, but now it is a soggy paperweight.

        • @A3Australia: i feel obligated to share my experience in regards to yours. There is one main thing that everyone needs to understand: the iphone sold to American market comes with different networks frequency and that is mainly due the CDMA network in US and some LTE network, this means the chips inside the phone is different to the rest of the world. I was told by Apple reps in UK that iPhones sold in UK is covered by Apple warranty anywhere except American market due to the reson mentioned above. In many cases happened to me i was able to replace iphone 5 and iphone 6 and iphone 6s in apple stores in several countries and they were all purchased from either apple store in Australia or used from gumtree. In Saudi Arabia were Apple dont have physical store they asked me to go to their authorised reseller which was happy to accept the phone, they advised me that they will be sending the phone to Apple in Singapore and Apple technician will check the phone and replace it for free on warranty and the process will take up to 3 weeks for the phone to be sent and checked and sent back to Saudi. In the second case which was in Malaysia which apple also dont have physical store, they advised me to do the same thing as Saudi and the process was the same. Last year i was in Dubai and my screen cracked and i went to Apple store in Dubai and they happily accepted the phone and advised me that there will be a cost to replace the screen as its physical damage and i said ok, after 7 hours of waiting they called me and said we checked the phone and there was an issue with it so we will replace it for you free of charge. In 2012 when the Australian dollar was strong i bought an iPhone 5 from US and after couple of months I cracked the screen, so i went to Apple store at Perth and told me sorry this phone have different chip inside it compare to the Australian one so we will not be able to replace the phone for you.

TL:DR; iPhone sold in the American market will not be covered in Australia.

        • -3

          @Bnjam3:

I feel obligated to share my experience in regards to yours.

Yes, you are basically agreeing with all the points that I made:-

          1) "Apple still honour warranty for model purchased overseas"…. sometimes they may, other times they may not.

          2) the risks are there. If the price is low enough at the time you weight up the risks vs the price

          3) In the case of a locally supplied iPhone… Apple…. may replace your phone immediately, or in the worst case ask you to return in an hour for your repaired iPhone. Whereas for an iPhone purchased overseas, one may be lucky and get the same service as for a local market iPhone, OR one may have to wait 7 hours or weeks (as you said) or be refused service.

          4) Anyone buying iPhones (iP5SE or other models) via this dwidigitalcameras website will not know from where the phones were first supplied by Apple. Could be USA, Europe, or some Asian country.
"All our products are shipped from overseas and sourced from international suppliers".

As an example. The 5s I purchased via Kogan's eBay store was actually supplied by Kogan HK Limited, but it was not a Hong Kong Market model. It was a USA LTE model, first supplied to an American carrier.

        • -1

@A3Australia: You must be a real idiot if you think the iphone offered in this deal is a US model considiring how the US dollar currently is so strong.

        • @Bnjam3: >

You must be a real idiot if you think the iphone offered in this deal is a US model considiring (sic) how the US dollar currently is so strong.

Actually I wrote that it "could be" USA:-

"Could be USA, Europe, or some Asian country".

          This Hong Kong supplier states:-
"We are an online retailer only. All our products are shipped from overseas and sourced from international suppliers."

Unless a buyer ask before ordering, there is no way of knowing if the phone supplied will be a Hong Kong market model, or a phone from some other market.

        • @A3Australia: yeah, you only told half of the story behind your iPhone 5s and 6. The high chance are these phones probably had third party intervention hence apple refused to do a repair. And for water damaged phone, don't even bring in the story because 99% of the time you'd be better off kissing it goodbye, Australian stock or import regardless.

        • @lgacb08:

yeah, you only told half of the story behind your iPhone 5s and 6.

          That is an untrue accusation.

The high chance are these phones probably had third party intervention hence apple refused to do a repair.

No, that iPhone 5s had never been touched by any repairer, Apple or any other. The same with that iPhone 6.

As Apple Australia refused to repair the iPhone 6, and as we did not want to wait for it to return to Japan with the owner, we had the screen replaced by a third party repairer here in Australia. At the time this cost more than the Apple repair would have cost.

And for water damaged phone, don't even bring in the story because 99% of the time you'd be better off kissing it goodbye, Australian stock or import regardless.

Nonsense. I have had several moisture damaged iPhones replaced over past years. All were worth doing. I say moisture, as one was damaged by a milk coffee.

@Bnjam3: Thanks - that's the funniest thing I've heard in ages!

          @Bnjam3:

Incorrect. I've had an iPhone 5 and an iPhone 6S replaced by Apple Australia that were purchased in New York. The amount of misinformation in this thread is mind boggling….people just make stuff up!!

        • @MrMaxwell: Out of curiosity; was the iphone 5 sold via verizon network? Because the iPhones sold from Verizon have the same LTE frequencies with the international version and they even share the same model number(A1429).

  • The se is popular model, I doubt it'll receive a price drop.

  • coupon also brings down the price of the 64gb version to $704.

  • An Australian market iPhone 5SE can now be purchased for AU$590.22 delivered in Space Grey - and for AU$599.22 in Gold or Rose Gold.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/260529

I am now voting a Neg on this deal. As considering 1) the extra charged for anything other than payment by Bank Transfer, and 2) the lack of a local Warranty supported by Apple, and the two year Consumer Guarantee - this is no longer a bargain.

    • +1

      no worries

No reflection on you as the OP.

A two year (or even more) warranty/guarantee protection is surely worth the $40 extra cost.

Also, I was reading about some mobile phone warranty horror stories related to this seller's sister site - eglobaldigitalcameras
