  • If I already have a Chromecast… or two… is it worth getting this one?

    • +2

      Ummmmm no

      • Well, I suppose. My already Chromecasts do what I need them to do.

    • +1

Getting another couple would not hurt!

      • +1

But then I'll have to get a couple more TVs. :( I don't have the money, or the eyes for that.

        • Nah just use up any spare HDMI slots on your current tv!

        • @halfnhalf71: You, sir, win the internet.

        • +2

Or get multiple Chromecast Audio for synchronised audio in different rooms.
          No additional eyes required.

    • +2

If you already have a cupboard full of Eneloops, you'll probably want to stock up on these!

      • +2

I've actually never jumped on the Eneloops deals. I buy the ones from Aldi, because my wife often throws out the rechargeables by accident. She doesn't seem to want to stop.

        • Wow, and there I was thinking it was hard to train my kids not to throw out old toys with rechargeable batteries still in them… sounds impossible in your situation!

        • +5

@redhaze1: Oh crap! Kids! If they're going to be anything like their mum, I'm buying regular batteries from now on.

Nah, just kidding. I foresee lots of whinging and crying in the not too distant futre. I'm talking about me, by the way.

        • +1

@flaminglemon: You need to instil fear into her heart, only then will she not dispose of the holy Eneloop's any longer.

        • @XeKToReX:
Heart of Darkness, hear of darkness, heart of darkness, heart of darkness!!

        • +1

@XeKToReX: You're right! I'll tell her I'll change the wifi password if she ever does it again. That'll teach her!

        • +1

@flaminglemon: Any true ozbargainer would camp outside their house and wait for the misses to throw out those PRECIOUS Eneloops, Then rummage through their dirty garbage just to get them. But then you will have to be stalking OP.

    • Higher resolution (1080) if your TV supports it.

    • Good for every device in the house.

    • Do you have AC wireless?
I am getting mine so it can use AC wireless instead of the normal B/G/N.

      • -1

Not so much AC wireless, it's more the fact that the new model supports 5ghz vs 2.4ghz on the CC1, makes it a lot easier to segregate units to ensure every unit has enough bandwidth.

Chromecast + plex server is just so good, I have a CC on every tv in the house (7)

        • True I missed to mention the 5Ghz part. I use CC and Plex through out as well, been brilliant :)

  • +1

    I'll wait..

    • Hard to buy it now if you are waiting for the voucher which will bring it down to $33?

  • What is the TGG voucher?

    • Ah, The Good Guys.

      • +1

Don't hold your breath, I signed up two different email accounts, got acknowledgements on both but no sign of even the first cattledog, let alone the possibility of a second with a voucher to either.

I'm not too optimistic, TGG are full of crap at the best of times…

        • +1

I got a $50 and a $20 GG voucher/store credit sent to my email(s) a last week, do you mean from the scratch n win thing?

edit* sorry I didn't see the digi catalogue link, my bad

  • Hmm, something makes me wonder if there's a Chromecast 3 in the offing…

  • +1

Bad luck! I just bought one yesterday from officeworks for $58. Wish they could return it.

    • +2

You should be able to. And with price match, it will come down to $44.65.

    • +3

They let you return if "you simply just change your mind"

  • Is this the same as a chromecast 2?

    • +5

      This IS the Chromecast 2.

      • Thanks. The Video at the back makes me wonder if there is a new version of the chromcast.

  • +4

Remember price beat at Officeworks, they have it for $58. Just got it for $44.65

    • +2

      $44.65 ?!?

But DicKogan is selling them for $88 !

      • They've changed the price to $47 now. No more price beat. Joke's on us.

  • +4

I had the original Chromecast and recently bought a Chromecast 2 as retail therapy. Was not expecting much of an improvement, but the new one loads up significantly faster, eventhough I am on crappy 5 Mb/s internet and only wifi G.

    • Is It better in quality for Netflix?

My chromecast one struggles with Netflix - always buffers and has the grainy screen.

Can chromecast 2 help with this?

      • I'd say it would be your internet connection that is not fast enough. Load Netflix in your browser to see what happens.

        • It's what I originally thought… but its not. Able to play COD online perfectly on both PS4 and Xbox via wifi….

The Netflix app connects to Chromecast but then after a few mins closes on the android device and I cant even pause or stop. Then I reconnect the Netflix app to chromecast and it goes back to the Black/red Netflic is ready to cast screen….

This happens multiple times during a movie/show including the buffering and graininess.

I've done the hard reset, updated firmware etc. and its still the same….

Not sure if a chromecast2 will fix it but for $50 it might be worth a shot

        • +1

          @BKZ:

How fast COD plays has nothing to do with how Netflix will play.

Install Netflix on your PS4 or Xbox and try it. If it works better, then a Chromecast 2 should as well.

        • @Morien:

I'll give that a go - don't know why I haven't even considered doing that.
          Cheers mate

        • @BKZ:
          No problem, mate. Good luck!

        • @BKZ: let us know how it goes, I often live at multiple houses and run Netflix on Xbox on one (runs smooth) and Netflix on Chromecast 1 at the other (same problem as yours) would love to see if Chromecast 2 would fix it..

      • Chromecast 1 has pretty weak WiFi. Is your TV very far from the router?

      • As others have suggested, try stream from another device, or try move your wifi closer to the tv.

I have a Chromecast 1, stream netflix from my iPhone and have no troubles at all streaming in HD. My router is inside my TV cabinet though.

  • can i mirror my android phone on TV with very low lag, alone with audio?

    • It's fairly fast, not really gaming fast though.

      • Just want to mirror apps doesn't support chrome cast xD

  • I currently have issues trying to cast the Chrome browser from Mac to the TV with Chromecast 1. It can see the device fine but I have to spam the connection button and it will eventually connect. Anyone know if connection with Chromecast 2 is any better?
It seems its only ever chrome as Netflix and other devices from my phone connect no problem.

  • Any rumours on Chromecast 3?

    • +13

      We could start one…

      Chromecast 3 is coming!

      • I knew it! I have been waiting for half life 3 forever! Thanks man you've made my day!

  • I just wish this was 4K.
The horror of buying a 4K smart TV and finding out there's no cheap way to get Netflix on it in full def

    • Correct me if I'm wrong, but it wouldn't be this small if it supported 4K due to the increased processing power 4K requires.

  • Discovered a new use for my old chromecast that failed to work …. perfecting a basketball toss with it into a bin 10 metres away.

Then waiting to see how my neighbours' chromecast 2 works with his TV in a little while, and then he and I can use them as frisbees to train the dogs

  • Got one from City West (Perth) Store for A$47. They have plenty in stock.

  • +2

    for those who can't wait

Lol. OzBargainers always put saving money first

  • Sorry for noob question, but i'm too lazy to google. Can you hook one of these up into hdmi port on avr receiver for output from projector in home theatre setup?

    • +1

Plugged mine into my AV receiver's HDMI/USB ports.
For TV output, but surely it's the same for projectors.

  • I'm currently on holiday in the USA and they are $30 USD everyday of the week. :-) Now that's a bargain :-D
Looks like I'll be upgrading my Chromecast very shortly.

  • Damn just bought mine yesterday from JB for $58, didn't bother checking Ozbargain

  • How well does it work to mirror the whole screen from a Mac OS? Anyone tried this?

    • Slow, very slow! bought one yday from Officeworks (price beat), hooked it up on a spare TV (which sits next to the router), mirrored it to mc pro and the result is shocking! Tried it with a windows pc as well, no go!

      • Just remember your router has an effect too.

        • Works for you?

        • @louuisc: Works fine.

        • @bananabendera: when you say "fine", can I assume it reads works well? i.e., when play movies it can mirror the screen with audio in sync

        • @louuisc: It will be in sync but the picture will not be 100% smooth. It's more than tolerable for me however I could also see why other people might be bothered by it.

  • Can you use two of these on the same network.?
Two CC2,two different TV's? The kids watch ine, we watch the other?

    • +1

Yep. We have 3 in 3 different tvs, each plays different content. (Plex on one, Netflix on another, Youtube on the third).
