C20DS

Good MicroSD card, it is defiantly capable for gopro 4k as it's in GoPro Official Recommendation.
And it includes usb 3.0 card reader instead of card adapter from others.

  • Showing up as out of stock now, but I did find it here for slightly cheaper if you don't mind the longer delivery time.

  • A couple of weeks ago I bought one of these from eBay, but it is a 128Gb with 633X reading speed, I couldn't find the write speed before placing order, assuming it should have a reading speed of about 80M/s or at least 40M/s since the item description says it can be used in high speed recording devices. To my great surprise, I found the write speed is only 20M/s after I received the card, I am still wondering what's the point of advertsing for it's 4k video recording capability?

    • You should be getting U3 class card for 4k. Such genuine Lexar U3 card will have about 95 MB/s sequential read and 69 MB/s sequential write speed. U1 class will have 95/25 speeds. Looks like you've got U1 class, such as the one in this deal, or a card reader that's too slow for a card.

Ad does state it is suitable for 4k, but that would not be for 100% of cases as 25MB/s is a minimum. So ad is somewhat misleading.

      • Thanks mate, I did get the U1 card just with 128GB.

    • its more than enough for 4K recording - some devices like something faster because they can take stills etc whilst recording.

      • Just for reference, the 16Gb micro sd card that come with my Phantom 3 4K is a U3 class and you can take stills while recording 4K.

      • The bottleneck often isn't the card - for example my Canon 6D hits a brick wall at about 40MB/sec regardless of how much faster a card is capable of.

Real world - my cheap 'class 4' Sandisk 32GB cards write at about 20MB/sec and my fancy 95MB/sec Sandisk ones write at about 40…

I may have gotten lucky with the Class 4 cards - but I have 2 of them and they both perform much better than the sticker says they should. It was a nice surprise when I had intended them to just be backups!

          very true.
also comes down to buffer management also - if devices buffer up large block of data and release them in one hit, then yes, you will probably need a very fast card. the same goes with the opposite, writing to smaller blocks will need a card with fast memory access because it will be constantly writing small chunks.

    They are back in stock

  • So just confirming, would this be suitable for a Phantom 3 recording 4K? How many minutes of 4K would you get from 64Gb?

It's ~$35-36 from amazon anyway guys:

    • I bought my 128GB with A$50 when eBay was giving A$25 off last time. Don't know when will eBay offer again.
