Now is there anything worth seeing on Fathers day?

    • +15

The smile on your father's face for taking him out and treating him to both movie plus snacks :)

      • +3

        My father is dead. :(

        • I don't know how to respond to these votes.
People begging because I said my father was dead or people + me because my father is dead.

    • Suicide Squad seems alright

      • It's an okay film. Worth seeing it for this price

  • +3

Do you have to come with your father? Or just say that you are coming to celebrate fathers day, and your father isn't coming.

    • It appears to be with every ticket. Don't need to be a father or be with a father.

      • +1

From T&C its for every ticket purchased from optus perks

  • Is it the normal $10 or whatever optus perk price as well? That's how I interpret it. If so, pretty good deal.

Edit: can't find any worthwhile movies. That's a shame.

    • Yeah its $11 now but you can book seats directly .. no need to go to boxoffice unless in this to collect freebies…

I have no idea what movies are coming too

  • Hmm is Telstra offering something similar to combat Optus ? ;)

Yeah couple of outages every month ..

What did he do to you? You don't want to f**king know!

    • Clearly hasn't seen 'Sausage Party' trailer…

  • +1

If anyone finds a good movie, let us know! Doesn't seem to be any good ones unfortunately

    • Embrace of the Serpent. Not sure Hoyts are showing it though. Incredible film.

      • +10

Is that the alternate title for Sausage Party?

    • Train to Busan seems great.

I can only book 3 days in advance w/ Hoyts website, is tht just me?

      • +1

Friedrais, u should only be able to book anything up to Wednesday as they release new movies every Thursdays in Australia (as far as I know), which is also when they may move or remove movies that are not selling well.

However there is the exception of movies with pre-release booking dates then those can be booked way in advanced.

        • ah that's fair…so I guess I'll wait till September 1st to find out whether to buy a ticket or not?

        • +1

@friedrais: yep! I usually check IMDB on new movie releases. They're pretty accurate!

IMDB is telling me that the following movies will be released in cinemas on Sept 1:

          • Blood Father
          • Cafe Societe
          • Operation Chromite

The week before (25 Aug) will have the following movie releases:

          • Ben Hur
          • Popstar
          • Free state of Jones

Unfortunately no kid-friendly movies til Sept 8, with The Secret Life of Pets. You might have better luck with the smaller cinemas which tend to show movies for longer.

    • +1

      • Free state of Jones, starring Matthew McConaughy (out 25 Aug)
      • Blood Father, starring Mel Gibson (out 1 Sept)

Release dates based on IMDB reports for the AUS region

I personally would choose Blood Father as the name seems fitting and the movie has an 8.6/10 rating on IMDB.

    • There's a thriller called "don't breathe" which I'm very excited to watch!

    • Plenty of kids movies our (BFG, The Secret Life of Pets, etc). Grown up movies - if nothing out right now takes your fancy, maybe try The Infiltrator which is out 1 Sept. On IMDB it has a rating of 7.3 out of 10. Is pre-release so can book early now.

      • Heard really good reviews on Kubo and the Two Strings.

  • +2

    Error 404: Dad not found

  • No free crab legs?

  • The Secret Life of Pets, is it worth to watch in cinema??

    • Sure if you have kids

    • +1

Nah, I'd recommend Sausage Party if you have kids

  • Time to watch MECHANIC RESURRECTION, statham pulls a "tom cruise":

"Enjoy free popcorn, a drink and a Choc-top this Father’s Day at all HOYTS cinemas"

    Geez… that's like a $300 savings nowadays. :p

    • Definitely around 15$ savings plus savings on ticket price.. So all togther around 20$ per ticket

  • -2

Hmm, read "popcorn" without the "opc". Got excited for a second :(

  • I registered for Optus Perks weeks ago but all I got is a confirmation email.
Do you get a card or something guys?

    • No you wont get any card you need to be able to login onto optus perks website to book

  • Hate it how they charge an extra $3 for recliner seats now, so the Optus Perks ticket is actually $14 if you go to a cinema that has "upgraded" to recliners. My local cinema only has recliners and I don't fit in them.

  • you need to be Optus member :) sadly I'm not.

  • +1

Is there a more appropriately named movie to watch today than 'blood father'?

  • Watch Sully today and you get 1 extra free ticket (with each ticket) for your "family or friend" which will be valid until 21st September. Confirmed. Sitting with 2 extra tickets right now. Best $11 ever spent!!!!! Thanks OP!

    • Woah! How did you score the bonus tickets? I saw Sully today, didnt see anything about bonus tickets. Nice find!
