Dell ST2209W 22" Monitor for $89 (Inc Post) BUT Alternative Deal for $109 See Link [Soldout]

750

MOD edit - NEW DEAL LINK Price now $109

NOT as good as original BUT still a deal for some. See link here…

http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/26256

This seems to be a good price for a 22 inch monitor.

Checking on the dell site, this appears to be an old model which has now been replaced (by the ST 2210 I would guess).
It lacks the HDMI of the newer model, and the tech specs suggest it has a lesser panel, but for some it may be a good excuse to upgrade from the old CRT's!

I should mention it is one of ebay's BigDeal promotions. This means it is fixed price, free postage and a certain amount of guaranteed stock (showing 10+ at time of posting).

(See the discussion from a previous run out deal on this monitor for Pros/Cons, Moo has a nice summary here http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/25645#comment-202620)

Mod: Edited title to mark deal as sold out.

        • I asked the lady over the phone and she said the same; 7-10 days working days via courier. So at the latest you should get it by the start of next next week. Coincides with when my break starts so I'm not fussed about it.

    • It is scary enough posting a Dell deal (and I will admit I have been caught by their 'deals' before), but it gets even worse when you see the email notification stating 'I just had a phone call from them'!

It is good to hear that it didn't turn out too badly though. Maybe Dell has turned over a new leaf… or maybe that just don't want bad feedback on their ebay account.

    • +1

I'd rather the old screen with its 4 earth-polluting CCFLs and DVI cable. I've emailed to ask if this is possible.

      • please keep us updated on this, I'll like the older model too

      • They are out of stock of the S2209, but offered an upgrade to the S2309 at no extra cost.

        What do you guys reckon?

        • They are out of stock of the S2209, but offered an upgrade to the S2309 at no extra cost.

I'd probably take that over the ST2210. Its just like the s2209w but slightly bigger. Same pixels.
          Any other difference?
Who knows - the panel could be from a completely different source than than the s2209w panel.

        • I got offered the same and I'm going for the S2309. Looking at the features and comparing it with S2209W it looks exactly the same to me.

          • @evolution-flip: The S2309 seems to lack the HDMI port and DVI cable, but it does have the VESA mount and it is bigger and brighter… just wonder what the panel quality is like.

            • @G5: True. But you can get the DVI cable for ~$5 and personally, I don't have much usage for the HDMI port so I'm not too worried about it. Positives for me are as you said a) Bigger b) Brighter c) VESA. Panel quality, well remember you got it for $89 :)

              • @evolution-flip: $109 for me. True about the DVI, and I don't really care about HDMI either. Wonder if they will fit on my desk!

                • @G5: So have you got your 2309 yet? I'm thinking of trying to swap my 2210 for it.

                  • @fufufu: I get a feeling that G5 might have finally gone for 2210 :D

I will be getting my 2309 tomorrow though according to the delivery status. Have you already got your 2210?

                    • @evolution-flip: ah ok, let me know how the 2309 is mate.

Yes, I just got my 2210 today. Haven't opened it because I'm thinking it may be easier for them to exchange it if it's still unopened.

I'm still torn on if I need the HDMI compared to 1.5" more screen size. BTW I have a s2409w so the 2309 would be the same style bezel etc.

                    • @evolution-flip: I ended up going for the 2309. Got my delivery information today, things seem to be going rather slowly and I haven't even gotten the final order confirmation yet.

Wonder if these are shipped locally or if they come in directly from Asia? I'm not too familiar with Dell's distribution model here.

Apparently it's the S2309WFP, not sure if this is any different to the S2309 or not. It's funny because the Dell site lists the power consumption as 29W (http://www.dell.com/us/en/dfo/peripherals/monitor-dell-s2309…). It also lists the power consumption for the ST2210 as 30W (http://www1.ap.dell.com/au/en/home/monitors/monitor-dell-st2…). This is confusing because I thought the ST2210 would consume less power with its 2 CCFLs instead of 4.

Edit: Riiight, missed the part on the ST2210 where it says 22.5W (typical). Almost a 25% decrease.

                      • @G5: BTW who did you speak to to ask for the 2309? I'd like to try and ask if I can get the same.

                          • @G5: Thanks, I'll get right on it.

So they offered? Can you please tell me what you said to them?

                            • @fufufu: I told them I'd rather the S2209 over the ST2210, and they offered the upgrade.

Did they tell you they were sending you the ST2210? If you have already received it, I would probably just keep it. From what I can see they are both great screens.

                              • @G5: Yeh I'm not too fussed to be honest.

If they let me exchange it, great. If they don't I'll just enjoy what I've already got for $89.

Thanks for your help, do let us know how the 2309 is when you get it.

                              • @G5: Phew, I just got my S3209. It has got a DVI cable as well guys, if you are wondering. Fufufu, I told them in the email the reasons as well of me wanting S2209 instead of 2210 (DVI, VESA, brightness), so he offered me 2309. I don't know if they included the DVI cable just because I mentioned it, oh well.

It is looking great till now, will just take some time to get used to this big screen. It's a big jump 17" -> 23" :)

                                • @evolution-flip: It seems they want $26 for returning the ST2210. I think i'll just keep it LOL

  • omg i should have got more than 1, Dell upgraded mine to ST2210 too….damn!!!!

  • Thanks for your order and prompt payment of 1 x DELL NEW ST2209W 22" Widescreen
    Flat Monitor 3 Yr 16:9

Letting you know of some good news. I have been informed by Head office that
we are upgrading you to the ST2210 Monitor which is this year's model and
has High Definition. More details of this superior monitor can be found at

It does have hdmi interface which is a bonus

  • LOL… I don't know if it really is an upgrade. There is no DVI cable included with the ST2210.

  • On Dell small business website, the S2209W is still $409, and no sign of the St2210.
I'm beginning to think we have been fobbed off with an inferior model. But again … $89 :-)

    http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/products/category.aspx/monit…

There is the E2210H, which looks like a slight variant of the St2210 - Vesa mount, no hdmi, but same panel.

    • ST2210 $199
      http://www1.ap.dell.com/au/en/home/monitors/monitor-dell-st2…

S2209W for $409? That's ridiculous! It has to be a pricing error. Even the newer and superior U2211H is cheaper than that!

If the S2209W is still listed in stock, why are they "upgrading" us to the ST2210?

      Sounds fishy.

      • I know, i was just commenting on the small-business site.

I'm annoyed because I wanted to mount one of them in poortrait mode, and the ST2210 has no vesa mount.
Guess I'll have to sell it.

        • Maybe you could arrange a swap with another member who would like the HDMI and not be worried about the mount?

      • -1

        Sounds fishy.

        That's typical of DELL!

      • S2209W is no longer on the Dell website it seems, so it had to be an error.

  • +1

I'm not sure how I feel over trading VESA for HDMI.

I planned to mount mine too, but now will probably just use it as a spare monitor for the laptop or for a random display somewhere around the house - you can never have enough displays.

Good thing is I can now have 3 inputs (HDMI, DVI, VGA) on the monitor instead of 2 (DVI, VGA).

I agree that they probably are just trying to fob off the not-necessarily-inferior-but-probably-less-popular monitor.

@ $89 though, I would have ordered one even if it was ST2210 from the begining.

  • OMGOMGOMGOGMOGMOMG!

    I GOT INFOR AS WELL!!

WE will get FREE UPGRADE TO THE NEWER MODEL WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!

    S2210

S2210 is clearly the better model, how many people actually mount a 22 inch monitor?

  • the main difference between the s2209w and the st2210 is the backlights, the s2209w has 4 backlights while the st2210 has 2 energy efficient backlights. So the st2210 may be inferior and have uneven backlight issues? It seems like 4 backlights is the conventional way. Dell have gone with 2 to advertise it as energy efficient and cost savings.

    • reviews for the st2210 are much better

      4.7/5 from 65 reviews :P http://www.buzzillions.com/reviews/dell-st2210-21-5-inch-wid…

      • it has

      HDMI and HDCP support.

      HDMI Audio passthrough

      • it has 3.5mm audio input and output, i think you can just hook up ur pc speakers to the monitors directly and get hdmi sound from it?
      • yes the 3.5mm audio out is there for the optional dell AX510PA Soundbar, but you must be able to hook any speakers/headphones to it.

        • Awesome, didn't say there was a 3.5mm audio out jack on the website and reviews

        • I don't see any power out for the sound bar, so does this mean there is an amplifier in the monitor?
ie can i connect passive speakers, and the audio-in to my PC's line-out?

          • @freddy: Wow that would be great if it's true. Can anyone confirm?!

  • Your Estimated Delivery Date for this order is on or before 21/06/2010

And I thought DealExtreme were slow..

    • Lucky you at least received that. It's been 5 days now since the payment and I have only got an order acknowledgement (not confirmation). 21/06 sounds awful though, they said 7-10 days didn't they? :\

      • Give 'em a BIG FAT -VE feedback so they don't do it again! :D

  • I don't know if I should laugh or cry.
Sure, A$178 for 2 X 22" LCD monitors is an insanely good price. Even at A$218 for 2,it's still a bargain
    AND
Even if they suckered us into these lesser tubed versions, for the prices we paid - it's still a fabulous deal.

I'm pretty dissed with Dell as this is the 2nd time this has happened to me.

The first time was the Dell Mini10V(1011) deal. I bought into that specifically for the purpose of hackintoshing the damn thing. They then said they couldn't deliver adding t "No worries, We're "upgrading" you to a 10Z (1010)!! What was I going to do with that? Well turns out I managed to sell that privately for A$380 (paid only A$330 for the 10V) and used the difference to pay for my 2GB ram piece.

But I'm starting to think, nothing with Dell is ever straightforward… .

  • Does anyone know the panel type used in the ST2210? The S2209 has an AU Optronics M215HW01 V0

    • The hardware ID is DELA05A, whatever that is. A Dell display?

      • Sounds like that is based on what the device firmware is reporting, rather than who the actual panel manufacturer is. Only way to find out is probably to open up the screen, as none of the usual sources seem to have a listing for it (http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/panelsearch.htm)

  • Anyone got theirs yet? Got an email telling me its scheduled for 15/06 but today I found a card in my letterbox from startrack couriers.

    • I just got mine today.

    • Got mine today as well, wondering if I can modify the stand into a VESA or other mountable method.

    • What time did you guys get the delivery?

      • 10am got mine today woot!!!

only paid like 5 days ago via paypal lol!

        VERY FAST !!!!!

        THUMBS UP FOR DILL LOL!

  • I just got mine today at 2pm and was surprised to see that I got the ST2210 as well. I thought it was a mistake from Dell until coming back here to read everyone's updates. I got a call yesterday saying that it'd be delivered between 12-5pm today but they didn't tell me that they 'upgraded' it to the ST2210. Initially I was happy when I realised this was the newer model but after reading people's comments here I'm not sure what to think. I don't know how much brighter the S2209W is but people here are saying it's brighter.

I hooked up the ST2210 to my laptop and am using it as a second display. Compared to my laptop's LED display, it's not as bright but it's not that far off. It was set at 75% brightness by default so make sure to change it to 100%.

    • Got mine today as well. Melbourne here. Parents are spewing at me for not grabbing 2 of these for them, ha.
So far its been good, the words aren't as small as i thought it'd be with the Full HD resolution.
Theres no speakers on the unit, but it does have a audio in and audio out port which may come in handy, although the sound when using that is quite pinny. Other than that its a great unit and moving to 16:9 from 4:3 has been a bit easier than i thought.

BTW how do you use it at 100% brightness? Its a bit much isn't it? I have mine at 50 for both brightness and contrast

      • So the sound through the 3.5mm port is bad? Are you sure it's not your speakers/headphones? If the pass through sound is bad having an extra HDMI to sacrafice VESA doesn't really sound good to my anymore. :(

      • lol I guess I'm just so used to the LED display, my standards have gone up.

        • @manbearpig
Yeah i moved over from an old CRT so its a bit of a jump for me, I've turned it down again to 45 brightness and contrast

          @fufufu
I've tested it again with different headphones. The sound from what I can tell is quite average, not as small as I thought the first time around. But I can tell you this much, its more louder if I plug the headphones directly from the audio ports on my PC or MP3 player rather than going through the monitor. Hope that answers your question

          • @Roja: Ah, ok.

Hmmm, is it just volume though? Like sound quality wise, it's not bad right?

  • melbourne, got mine this morning as well - but was in such a hurry to get out of the office this arvo I left it behind - doh!
