    • totally agree, so i give it a positive as well.

I don't see the value in the product, sorry. I'm sure if you're after a 256GB thumb drive, then yeah, bargain for you, not for me though.

  • USB flash drive nearly 1k damn! Out of interest! But still good bargain compared to others. Got my vote but rather pay for a laptop than this :P

  • +7

This thread is tantamount to marketing spam. It's not a bargain - heck, it's not even what most would consider a decent sale.

  • +6

If everyone who could get a USB stick would get a hard drive instead - then why are USB sticks still being sold?? Because of their portability over a hard drive. You wouldn't carry a hard drive EVERYWHERE you go would you??

But if you put a USB stick onto your keys - how often are you without your keys??

It's about what you need. Just because YOU don't need it - it doesn't mean the idea of USB sticks are silly.

If you don't need the portability of USB - then fair enough this might not be a product for YOU.

Understandably - the highest possible capacity in the world 256gb would also come at such a high price.

Obviously the product would suit particular people on the move.

I am in no way affiliated with this product or the company advertising it. I also am not interested in buying one.

I think that each bargain needs to be viewed in the following way:

1 - Is the item cheaper compared to all other offerings of the same item out there?
2 - Is the item better value (quality of item over price) than similar items out there?
3 - Is the purchasing process as easy as purchasing from anywhere else?

My idea is that - when you are looking for something to buy - a bargain is something that you get cheaper than anywhere else you can possibly find (or close to) and is as easy to get as anywhere else.

Just because you're not looking for that specific product - shouldn't mean it's not a bargain if it definitely is cheaper than the best you can find around.

Ideally the best bargains around are ones where the product is both better and cheaper than anything else out there and can be purchased as easily as online / store front shopping.

OzBargain tends to throw in the idea that - not only should it be all of the above - but everyone has to want one too.

"If everyone who could get a USB stick would get a hard drive instead - then why are USB sticks still being sold?? Because of their portability over a hard drive. You wouldn’t carry a hard drive EVERYWHERE you go would you??"
USB sticks are for small files.
Hard drives are popular because of TPG and their massive DL quota..
And our need to borrow things off the internet then share it around with friends.
      I blame TPG.

I blame porn. And my mate's ridiculously hot girlfriend.

        But mostly porn.

How could anyone vote down this comment?

    • +1

The niche would have to be so small that it is certain not even one consumer on ozbargain would purchase this due to its price. I'm sure many would prefer paying less than $100 and carry something that is not much heavier than a usb stick. These thumb drives will be the norm in 2 or 3 years, but for now, this post is stupid, let alone it being in a country with less than 25 million people. And what happens if you lose this stick due to its light weight, there goes $900! Now where's those 9 hundred dollars bills that were lying on my couch?

These products should only be targeted at enterprise businesses and executives, not a simple consumer site like ozbargain. If executives need this they go to proper suppliers that their business deals with. The last place an executive will be searching is ozbargain or goodbargain for a $900 usb stick, think about it.

If everyone here has no intent purchasing a product because it doesn't provide the amount of value that $900 gives then its not a bargain, it's about absolute value not proportional value.

      • +2

        well said.

      • +2

hahaha, well i think he has succeed with this thread, good advertising

        • +2

its a stupid thread anyway, I would NOT buy anything from goodbargain.com as they tend to marketing SPAM ozbargain like this!

          • +2

@davidl2: I urge every ozbargainer act on companies who do these spam!

AUD$970 a stick of USB drive, WOW!!! and you're telling me it's not marketing SPAM?

people should spend $970 to those poor kids who need medicine instead!!!

    • +1

well Written mate. Couldn't agree more.

  • +2

Excuse me… but does a 2.5" external hard drive come with bragging rights?

    • +4

no, but a 2.5" external HD with 900 bucks in ur back pocket does.

      • +244GB more too.

  • Hey GB, maybe you can sell some fake invoices for 1/10th the price to people who want to brag about their big stick. lol!

  • +2

not a bargain as per comments above

  • Just what I was looking for. No more lugging those heavy hard disks around in my carry on luggage at the airport!

    Thanks gb12345!

    • +9

Do you think you could sound more like he paid you if he actually paid you?

    • +1

      Heavy hard disks?
      Are you serious?

  • +6

I understand that this may not be a bargain for most people (myself included) but there definitely is a market for this item. I just don't believe this deal should have received as many negative votes so far. From the voting guidelines (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:voting_guidelines).

    1. Pricing is always subjective. A $1 off a $500 item isn’t much of a bargain, but on a $3 item it is. But then again to some a $3 item is junk so anything off isn’t a bargain. So really negative votes purely based on pricing requires caution. Are you imposing your set of values on another in the community?

Note also that "Not a bargain" is not a valid reason for a neg unless you can find the item cheaper elsewhere.

    • +1

We are all basing it on the value a USB stick gives us for the pricing. We are not judging on just pricing, don't generalise. It's called cost-benefit.

      • You'd be carrying 16 16gb usb sticks (one of the most common high capacity usb sticks around) instead of one. So in other words, this stick gives the highest density of space compared to most portable devices, and at a discount as well. Is 10% off an Alienware (pre-Dell era) desktop not a bargain to you then? You could probably build one yourself but it appeals to a different market.

        • +1

10% off an alienware desktop would not be a bargain for me if it doesn't provide the benefits of quality and emotional value that over weigh a less costly machine that I could build myself. Then again if I built a desktop with parts from ASUS, Antec, Corsair and Western Digital, it would provide me more emotional value than a damn overpriced alienware desktop. A laptop is different considering you can't really build your own laptop.

  • +13

Will this work with my solid gold Mac? I need to know because I have a lot of money around here taking up space.

    • hahahaha

    • lmao

    • haha nice one

    • Scrooge McDuck? Is it really you?

      • +1

Can't be the only thing Scrooge McDuck would be wiling to pay for is a bigger vault.

  • Goodbargain, how many have actually placed an order so far?

  • all i'm gonna to say is "God bless u" to those rich people who buy one… LOL
I guess you guys who bought one probably have one of those solid gold dunnies too… lmao

  • just buy two, cheers

    • +1

why do you need to buy 2?? just curious…

      • +2

        backup

        • +1

Thanks mate, i was just wondering if he place them in places he shouldn't have

        • SURE thing, use a 1k usb 256GB flash drive for a backup over a more reliable hdd.

  • -1

Negging for obvious reasons stated in other posts.

  • Maybe this will be a bargain in like three years no harm posting now and waiting three years.

  • A quick search on Ebay, the same one costs $994 shipped. And guess what!? There is one being sold. So if that buyer checked out ozbargain, he/she will save $24 right on the spot. In comparison, this deal is a bargain. Cost and value are two different things. It just depends on what you need.

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/GENUINE-Kingston-DT310-256GB-USB-Flas…

    • +4

Less than 3% off. how is this a bargain considering it is >$900? anyone rich enough to buy this should donate more money to charity.

  • Out of curiosity, how many have you sold so far?

    • Most probably none. :)

      • yep, probably… LOL
All those "just buy two" and "oh I just bought ten…" are just so very convincing…lmao

  • +3

A 200GB SSD costs less than $900. Who in their right mind is going to pay almost 1k for a device that writes @ 12MB/s.

    • Wow, I forgot about that factor, thanks for reminding me.

  • how much do you profit on these goodbargain?

  • +3

The DT310 is also $972.87 from these guys (including $11 shipping fee): http://www.kingstonmemory.net.au/Kingston-DataTraveler-C28/D…

If you're really pedantic, you can get it from the shipped US for ~AU$950: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Kingston-DataTraveler-310-DT310-256GB…

Or how about the older model DT300 (also 256GB) for $927:
    http://www.ausidmemory.com.au/showroom/30209.html?utm_source…

    • +1

I hadn't voted negative 'cause I hadn't seen anything similar priced. But now it's less than 0.5% better than the nearest competitor. On top of that, it's a not-in-stock drop-ship.

      Not a bargain.

    • +2

For the same reasoning as tantryl, this is NOT a bargain…

In addition, as G5 mentions below, it is now available for under $945 posted from www.kingstonmemory.net.au.

  • +3

Good bargains normally sell a lot. This item seems to be a sale but common sense says that it definitely is NOT a bargain!
One thing is sure though: this is a clever way to promote your site. You just put a sale on an item that you don't even have in stock(and you have never bought it) in your "store".
That's my opinion. If you think i'm wrong jut let me know how many of you will go and buy this "bargain"

  • Given the price I'd be too scared to lose/misplace this thing if I bought it!

  • Has anyone try pricematch at OW? It's gonna be $921.50 LOL

On serious note though, I agree with others who said, just because you don't need it, doesn't mean its worth negged. Maybe someone else need it, maybe james bond might need this to copy someone's whole PC, but don't wanna get caught carrying external HDD on the way out passing through security. Great, so let him vote +ve if here's the cheapest he can find, or -ve if he bought it cheaper somewhere else.

I'm no james bond, don't need it, don't know anything about it, where's the cheapest place, etc. so it's not a +ve nor -ve vote from me.

  • I don't think buying one of these is worth the risk….the risk of losing it that is..

  • I love my 4GB USB stick. But USB sticks are so easy to lose/damage. Yes they are portable, but there is a reason some companies give them away as promotional items. They are disposable! People lose them! If I lost mine, or accidentally sat on it, or dropped it and it broke… then I'm only up for about $12 for a new one. If I broke/lost a $970 one… well, that would be a bad day indeed.

I can't even think of any reason why I would want to be carrying around 256GB of data at one time. 16gb would be pushing it I think.

That said, I don't know if this is a bargain or not. Its a discount yes, but a bargain? hmm.

  • +1

It may be the alcohol talking… but is this a joke?

  • -1

It's there for people who need one. Not every one needs a 256GB thumbdrive, but for those who do, that's $100 off. Unfortunately, the majority of us would rather go for a 256GB SSD over a 256GB thumbdrive.

    • +1

      500gb Laptop actually.

  • +1

Why spend $970 on 256GB, where we've seen so many 1TB for $95. Does size really matter???

    • -1

Yes, sometimes size matters. To me, being shockproof matters more. Hence the suggestion above to go for a 500GB laptop HDD is not acceptable for my usage. I already have one each of 320GB and 500GB laptop HDDs in an external enclosure already.

  • +1

Now $942.37 (including shipping) from here: http://www.kingstonmemory.net.au/Kingston-DataTraveler-C28/D…

  • what a waste of money, i rather buy a faster 256G 2.5" external SSD (100Mb/s) for around $620. 12 MB/s writing speed is joke for 256G flash drive, takes more than 6 hour to copy data.

  • Why so many negatives …

why do i get 2.5" hard drive enclosures instead of 3.5" enclosures … because i drink too much and i drop stuff and the 2.5" drives are more robust (and slightly smaller) … sure, i pay more for them, but it's worth it …

by the same measure, a usb stick at 256gb is even more robust and even smaller … as someone said previously, you dont put a portable hard drive on your keyring, and yet, I've had usb drives on my keyring for the past 7 years …

sure, you can get a laptop for the same price, but that wont fit on your keyring, and you can't throw it around as much either …

for a USB drive, the price is a little cheaper, people have bought them … if you're not in the market for the product on offer, then why put a negative on the deal (some people have said that there are cheaper, they're justified, but a large percentage have put negatives because there's other products that perform a similar function) …

    • +2

Because you can get it elsewhere for the same price (See G5s post above) and because this is an admitted drop-ship operation (they don't have stock - they take your money, then they give some of it to someone else, then that someone else delivers it to you).

  • +2

Guys, comparing SSD with USB stick is not a valid reason to neg. There are always someone want it because whatever the reason.

  • +1

LOL lots of posts for an out of place out of touch IT product

    • +1

      WE'RE JUST GETTING STARTED!!!

  • +1

If I earn $2000 a day maybe I will consider this deal but sadly to tell I can't even earn half of that a week. So this one is definitely not for me.

  • For the past year and a half i have visited this site and never posted a single comment, but i feel compelled to do so after seeing this absolute disgrace - this "bargain" should be taken off this site, is the person who posted from the store it seems?

We can't have crap like this flooding this awesome site. I will vote this - and do whatever to take this waste of space down !

    • -1

Just because it's something you wouldn't purchase yourself or think its too expensive doesn't mean its not a bargain. Considering every other Australian retailer is selling this for over $1000 at least then I would say the deal is justified.

      • Please see some of the competitor's prices mentioned by others above.. they are pretty much the same…..!

  • +6

Great price. Bought 3 to run in RAID 5.

  • Awesome deal - have been waiting for one of these for some time.

Buying 2 - if they are fake I am asking PayPal for a refund.

  • He must be using CPM advertising.

  • +1

    just bought one.

  • +3

i am also drunk if that has anything to do with it

    • +3

Well you've saved almost $5 on a $970 purchase that'll halve in price within 6 months.

      Kudos, smart shopper.

  • +2

this usb is not for me .. just recently lost one :)

  • +1

    horrible.

  • Buy a small external HDD for $70, and sacrifice portability for $900 !!
