  • Any gotchas with these disks?

      It's a slave.

        You can be its master.

Bravo to both of you, no read errors here.

If you buy more than one they may get RAIDed

  • I got 6 :) and yes there is a limit of 3 per customer.

Which sucks badly, I need at least 14

This would be fast. The lower P300 2TB model i have is quiet fast enough and the X300 model has twice the amount of buffer memory.

Also these Toshiba 3.5" hard drives from Amazon come packed in a nice retail box and surrounded inside by styrofoam for protection. They do come sealed in an anti static bag the same as OEM hard drives do. Only difference is the packaging in a retail box.

  • Very nice price. I would have bought 1 of these for sure if I hadn't already spent my whole budget on the 2x8tb drives from this deal www.ozbargain.com.au/node/262796 (no longer available).

  • Says item cannot be shipped to my address.

No problems here. Make sure that the web page says "Ships from and sold by Amazon.com." under where it says in green letters In Stock.

  • NAS drives?

  • I have been looking for some reliable 6TB drives for some time now. Thanks OP!

As i said it seems that these hard drives (according to the drive picture posted on the Amazon product web page) are Made in Philippines. I had never heard before of a hard drive made in that country before, have you?. The reliability may be yet untested even through it's made by Toshiba.

      • +3

Many enterprise drives are made in philippines.

Installed approx 50 Optiplex 9030 from dell containing 1tb toshiba drives all made in philippines just a month ago. Had to remove em and put ssds.

Fyi. Philippines have been producing enterprise hdds for decades. I can remember the ibm server days having scsi drives made in phils.

Also lots of laptops containing toshiba hdds were made in phils.

  • Curious that according to the product picture of the drive itself it's Made in Philippines. First time i have seen a HDD made there. I wonder how the drive reliability is.

In comparison the Toshiba P300 2TB model which i recently got from Amazon is Made in China (probably the WD factory there). Toshiba hard drives must be made in multiple factories around the world depending on the model.

Confirmed. Toshiba has a hard drive manufacturing factory in the Philippines.

"Toshiba is manufacturing HDDs in Laguna, Philippines, in a plant acquired from Fujistu in 2009, and apparently also through contract manufacturing partner, SAE/TDK, producer of disks and heads, in Shenzhen, China."

  • How do amazon send PC parts? if their books are anything to go buy, it's just stuck in a box with a few of those air bags and that's it, not much protection

    • They come in retail boxes

      • That's it? Not even an outer box? So basically no protection

        • +2

The retail box is placed inside a brown box that amazon/ bhphoto use with some big bubble bags.

That's how some external drives I bought came

        • @bbourizk:
Thnx. sounds like their regular packaging style. Not really pleased with that. had items that have come damaged that way

        • +4

          @tchi6:

These hard drives are inside a retail boxed packaging which the drive itself is surrounded by styrofaom protecting it inside of the retail box. These are not just bare hard drives that are just placed inside of an Amazon shipping box.

In other words. These hard drives are surrounded and protected by styrofoam inside of a box (retail box) which that box is inside of another box (the shipping box) which has air cushion packaging in it protecting the retail box. How much more protection do you want?.

      • Yes. They come in a retail boxed packaging, which is inserted into an Amazon shipping box.

  • Just my two cents, these drives appear to have 2 years warranty, vs the 3 years of previous 3Tb Toshiba drives I've purchased at PCCG… Overall I'm quite happy with the brand based on my 3Tb drive experience and look forward for these drives to be available through retail channels here, even if slightly more expensive in the hopes they have 3 year local warranty.

    • The 3TB Toshiba drives were actually re-branded Hitachi 7K3000 drives, so I wouldn't rely on your experience with those being a good indicator of the reliability of the Toshiba designed X300.

That being said, I've still gone ahead and picked one up to add to my array of 6TB Seagate drives.

  • Finally, 6tb hdds for the G8…. actually, may just wait for the 8tb to come down to this price, still a good price though

  • Anyone know why my order came to 245? O.o

      Toshiba X300 6TB Desktop 3.5 Inch SATA 6Gb/s 7200rpm Internal Hard Drive: US$169.98
      Shipping: US$8.88

      Items: AUD 233.31
      Shipping: AUD 12.19

      Total before tax: AUD 245.50
Estimated tax to be collected: AUD 0.00

      Order total: AUD 245.50

      • I got exactly what you got, mainly referring to OP's price being $236 delivered..

    • Because you probably selected in the Amazon order to pay in $AUD which uses the Amazon currency converter which always gives a lousy conversion rate. Change the payment to $USD and let the bank do the conversion rate instead and you'll pay less.

      • Thank you!!
