  • good price, but make sure you Google singapore zika virus before you book it.

    • +2

      Don't scaremonger.

Zika Virus is no worse than the normal flu. Only a major issue if you are a pregnant female or wanting to fall pregnant in the near future. Just wear insect repellant with DEET and you'll be fine (Though dont do what I did and have DEET touch your sunnies. I ruined my sunnies as it melts plastic). If you're male, you have nothing to really worry about

      • +4

DEET melts plastic?!?! and you want me to put it on my skin!!!?!?!

        !!!!!!!!11one

        • It doesn't melt steel beams though.

    • +1

Not sure why this comment was downvoted it is a legitimate concern , I have tickets booked for my mum and brother for end of October and the virus has gone up to 80 headcount as of last wednesday and the Singapore health ministry has been very conservative with the numbers and have had a history of not reporting issues to the public until it was abit late

Definitely take precautions everyone who's travelling, at least 1 can of insect repellent per passenger

A very good airline to fly with. The food is terrible though, which is surprising given that Singapore is a foodies' destination.

  • Great prices…but still doesn't help me with Malaysian GP :(

    • +2

It would help you get to the Singapore GP. In 2 weeks time

    • +2

AirAsia is having a sale from tomorrow

      • I have to get out of HBA which is an added cost. GP is middle and end of school holidays :(. Cant really spend an extra week away (solo) to get the cheaper return flights. Singapore GP no good either, as return is $1200+

  • +1

I can get $612 from Sydney for some of those days with Emirates and/or Qantas.

If you're prepared to skimp $501 with Phillipine Airlines is coming up too.

    • +1

$400 with Scoot if you really want to skimp.

      • Jetstar will pricematch it and knock another 10% off it too. it's a 7 hour flight. Same comfort level as Scoot.

        • Yes, but only from Melbourne as Jetstar don't fly SYD-SIN.

        • +2

          @zappy32:

I don't think Scoot is skimping all that much to be fair. Economy is dime a dozen and I found their staff to be brilliant and the seats reasonable. Food was OK. I had 3 seats to myself coming home on a red eye which was nice being able to lay down.

        • Same comfort levels yes, but with Scoot you get to bring extra baggage. They've never checked. Jetstar got me the first and last time, amounted to a $250 fine for Darwin-SG.

        • @friedrais:

I got stung by carry on with Scoot 3 months back. Never with JQ though and I fly with them often. Must be a YMMV thing, I guess

        • @Cyphar:

Did they just stop you when you were checking in?

I always check in online so I go straight through, and once you're past immigration checkpoints you're in the clear

        • @friedrais: they can still check and fine you at the gate. you are never in the "clear" until you have actually boarded the flight.

i saw someone get fined at perth airport for sneaking in an extra bag, was asked to pay with credit card at full excess baggage rates. mind you this was with SQ

  • Over the last year, I've flown economy to Singapore from Perth on Qantas and SIA - and surprisingly, I would say that QF was better overall. Same planes but the food was better, staff nicer and QF don't turn the in-flight video off 40mins before landing like SIA do

But for a 5hr flight, Scoot at $200-odd return are just as good

    • When did Qantas resume flights on this route?

And when did they start flying 777-200s and A330s on that route?

      • Tone

Dunno when they restarted this route. Don't care either

        QF71 PER-SIN
        QF72 SIN-PER

The flights were on A330s when I flew

        Research is king champ

  • Don't forget Jetstar will price match this and drop 10% off the price too.

    • +1

Yeah but tbh for $60 SIA is far better. Will Jetstar match checked luggage and meals?

      • Shouldve been more specific, my bad, sorry. I was referring to his Scoot comment. Price matching a full cost airline would be pointless as the cost savings is lost in meal and luggage add ons.

      • They match luggage but not meals.

  • "world's number 3 airline by SkyTrax" Skytrax is such a farce - it's no wonder Etihad asked to be removed from the listing. Everyone knows Skytrax is hardly reliable.

    • +1

IMO they are nowhere as good as they used to be in economy

      • +1.

People were raving on about how great it was.

I didn't see the big deal in it myself. I'd much rather a cheaper flight via scoot and have more money at the destination lol

        • +1

We flew Scoot last time - about $250 return with luggage and food. On one leg we did the 'business'upgrade - about $100 each. It was okay but not worth the money IMO

          Brand new B787-9

          Seat was comfortable

Had my phone and Surface P3 for entertainment

As you say, save your money for awesome Singapore

    • Can you explain why skytrax is so bad. Im not familiar with them

      • +1

Apparently they've lost their reliability and authenticity a while back - many the bloggers/websites say it (Etihad even asked to be removed from the list because they didn't believe it was legit any longer) - but I cannot actually recall the exact reason now. I'll try to find some reliable links.
