Wow I didn't know that. But some more expensive Casios are stainless steel, like the MDV106-1AV that I linked to in my comment above.
There are other models that I am aware of also, but they aren't digitals.

      • I should clarify that I was only looking a digital watches when I found that there were none with metal cases. The analog and digital+analog watches probably differ.

The A158W certainly has a plastic body. That said I owned one for 5 years and wore it daily in pretty rough conditions, and the plastic body held up just fine. In the end I lost it, but I went straight out and bought another one. It's a fantastic watch.

    • Some people get a reaction to wearing steel watch, the best solution is titanium, Citizen is you man :-)

      Its my go-to watch

      http://www.citizenwatch.com/en-us/eco-drive-technologies/eco…

    • I found these two analog watches which say they have a stainless steel case.

      https://www.amazon.com/Casio-Brushed-stainless-steel-MTP1129…
      https://www.amazon.com/Casio-MTP-V002D-7A-Standard-Analog-St…

      Do they?

      • I don't know, but don't count on Amazon's description, it's been shown to be wrong many times.

Amazon's description of the A158W says "33 mm stainless steel case", and arescarti42 has confirmed above that the case is plastic. Even the review on Amazon "By Slaheddine Trilia on September 13, 2005" says "its case is not stainless steel."

  • Ordered A158, thanks!

  • Not sure why, but I'm having issues trying to order some of the watches; saying it is not available for delivery to my address :(

I order somewhat frequently from Amazon so I'm relatively familiar with their system… Anyone else having issues?

Edit: ehhh, it is a bit far fetched but maybe it is because I have ordered a Casio watch from Amazon in the past?

  • Tried to order the 8TB drive but delivery says it won't arrive until Oct 17-Nov 2… just FYI.

    Think I'll pass, thanks though.

    • Hard drive factories flooded again?

    • +1

You can always cancel anytime before it ships. Amazon only charge your card on shipment . This is a good way to lock in a good price

  • -5

Well this is really not a deal.. there is no discount really. Basically referral farming.

If you mentioned that topcashback had 6% on watches from Amazon then you might be talking.

For a cheap watch (camping etc) I'd recommend a timex indiglo.

      Link to cheaper casios please?

Amazon since about august last year?

$2 milk at woolworths too - what a baargain!

        • +3

They didn't ship to Australia at that time. Now they do, hence its a great deal and cheaper than any similar Casio watch in Australia. Seems like the Ozbargain community also agree

        • -3

          @easternculture:

So that is the bargain then - Amazon now posting casio watches to Australia (and I have no way of confirming that)?

If so, why didn't you make it clear in the post? And how is a 8tb hd related to anything?

IMO because the point of the post was the ref link, not the deal.

        • You're cheaper casio is amazon? This deal is from Amazon too. It's ok, you must be new here.

        • -3

          @Ronniefromdashore:

It is not only not the cheapest price historically, but it has been this price for ages. That's the point.

Most people wouldn't be caught dead with this on their wrist anyway (gramps, hipsters excluded) - the votes are mainly nostalgia.

          Dunlop volleys the next post?

PS: just bought a timex ironman for about $20 bucks - it's a better watch.

        • +1

@gringo: Care to share a link for the $20.00 Timex so we can all benefit from your research?

        • @28Degrees:

          OK

          $16.35 + $5.11 shipping (parcelpoint) = $21.46 - $5 app referral = $16.46 + $1 TCB cashback.

It's about $20 AUD all up.

Please use the random link for the app credit if buying.

        • @gringo: app referral only works for first time buyers. Stop being so salty about the deal. Move on bruva.

        • @Ronniefromdashore:

Protip: Who says you can only have one Amazon account?

This and his other post is referral spam. It's blindingly obvious. EC would actually be the first to call out/report anything like his own post.

The people losing out are really you guys - who would otherwise get credit from the random system.

        • @gringo: you're only allowed one account per person as outlined in the terms and conditions on the Amazon website. Badtip/10. Neg the deal bruva, if you think it's so bad.

Why would you need another junk when you have a smart phone 🙏

    • +2

I dont have a waterproof phone yet.

      • i would love to go swimming with my phone

        • Which pocket on your budgie smugglers would you put the phone into?

        • +1

Ziplock bag, which conveniently also makes it float.

Oh stop it, the bag will not break. Million to one chance. Don't be a pu$$y.

        • +1

          @3 Hyenas:

Agreed, ziplock bags are good, but I'm not sure that all phones will float, it depends on how much air is trapped inside the bag and how heavy the phone is.

For anyone wanting to try this out, note that the bag must be new, try the "resealable sandwich bags" available at supermarkets. Don't put sharp objects (like keys) into the same pocket with the ziplock bag or inside the bag.

If you don't believe it will work, try it with something else, maybe an old phone or remote control or similar. For anyone worried, use two ziplock bags, one inside the other.

      • Save up for the new I Phone 7: it will be "waterproof".
Don't tell anyone though-it's a well kept secret.

    • +1

10 year battery, smart phone not glued to my face, watch easier to read the time on, not as much radiation, phone can't go in water yet, turn your wrists to see time and phone doesn't have to be on your all the time either.

  • Classic watch, the wiki on them is pretty great: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casio_F-91W

  • 8TB Drive expired.

    • Still available . Choose Amazon as seller from right side under other sellers

  • F91W does not ship to Australia.

  • these still made in japan like in the olden days?

    • I think either Malaysia or China for the ones sold in Australia

I remember buying a gshock from the US 2 years ago and it was Japanese made

  • Thanks for this post, OP. I have been eyeing some of these for a while but wasn't keen on buying from ebay!

  • Just bought the AE1200WH-1A
    Cheers OP!

Legit question, why do people like these watches?

    • +2

Legit answer, some people like them & some people don't like them because of personal taste nstuff.

      • +1

Yeah totally fair, everyone has their own preferences and I'm not arguing with that.

What I was getting at more is there seems to be some kind of special reverence and attraction to this kind of Casio watch with an older design. I was wondering if they did something better than most other new watches or beat out the competition in some way.

If you just like it because you like it, enjoy :)

        • +1

At some point in the last couple of years they became retro, and are thus trendy amongst the hipster crowd.

Others like them because they're perfect if all you're after is an inexpensive, practical, durable timepiece.

        • +3

Its probably a case of nostalgia for a certain segment of ozbargain. What would of needed weeks of convincing arguments to your parents and a wait till your birthday or xmas can be had with a few mouse clicks now.

        • +3

A watch is more than something that tells the time. It places you in a period of your life and for people it stimulates fond memories.
For me it takes me back to a time when I wore it because nothing else could stand the trauma of what I did in those days and still keep going.
          Now I can't!

        • +2

@DarwinBoy: Exactly. I grew up in the 80s and I never realised before now just how omnipresent these were. They've become iconic of that era, and yeah it's a fad to buy one in 2016 but they really do bring back memories.

I hate wearing watches these days, but I want one so badly and I'm going to buy one.

        • A E S T H E T I C

Well, I've just finished restoring a 79 Falcon, and got the 158W for wearing in the car. Big thanks to the OP!

      Legit answer: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/videos/2016-06-29/why-hong-kon…

BTW the interviewer was wearing a Royal Oak ($20K at least). Some wear one Rolex/Omega/Panerai all year long, while others have a Grand Seiko and a beater CASIO combo. Some even prefer Chinese mechanical watches to high end G-Shocks like me.

      There's no right or wrong.

      • Cool, thanks for the answer :)

    • i've had one for two years, and it's not 80s nostalgia for me (was born in '95), not directly anyway. really it's just that a simple smart timepiece, i like digital watches and stainless steel ones look less tacky / childish, and i really don't like ultra-expensive luxury watches. a nice silver steel watch, iconic but simple in design, goes with everything i wear, and fine, yes, the retro appeal helps. :)

  • How do I know which items are eligible for free shipping to Oz? Every single one has "free shipping" in green, but this apparently applies to US addresses only. I guess there's no free shipping to Aus

Also, I never know if prices are in AU$ or US$, but given it's amazon.COM, it must be USD, true? Edit: must be true.

  • Are these definitely genuine? Zoom in and have a look at the rough edges of the steel frame on this one: https://www.amazon.com/Casio-A158W-1-Stainless-Steel-Digital…

    • It's actually a lighting artefact . Have a look at the video and you will see the lighting effect

  • "This item does not ship to Australia"

    • +1

Look for sold and shipped by amazon under other sellers

      • Thanks for reply. Either I am looking at the wrong place or they don't offer any for the Casio Men's AE1200WH-1A World Time Multifunction Watch

        • Seems like OzBargain has bought all the stock available for that particular model

        • ah righto thanks

  • Might be late to the party - but how funny was using casio TV remote watch while the teacher was trying to setup the boring 'educational' video

    • +1

i had this exact watch once upon a time

      • coolest kid in class right?

    • +1

Haha my friend had one of these. we used to have epic volume control wars with the clueless teacher.

  • The Casio F91W-1 Classic Resin Strap Digital Sport Watch are now down to $9.57 which is a bit better.
Now should i of paid with Amazons conversion or in USD? It was $48AUS or $35US.
