    Thanks for sharing :)

  • I have been trying to book these flights but for some reason the dates that I search show as having cheap flights but the actual search results do not. Has been this way for 2 days now.

(profanity) you!!! booked 10 days in Saigon for myself and the kids. $1385 for the 4 of us.

this year we've already been to melb twice, hawaii, japan, going to darwin in oct, melb again in dec, cairns in feb. and now saigon in april.

TA and IWTF!!! stop posting stupidly cheap flights.

How does one have so much annual leave?

      • +12

        One doesn't have to work

      • Previously hadn't taken much leave so now I have a huge reserve to tap.

        • Tap dat leave!

Don't forget to do Visa on Arrival for Vietnam, rather than 2 trips to the consulate and higher fees.
Also, for those who want more bang for their buck, you can, using Sydney, for example, fly 3 one-way flights: Syd - Sgn, Sgn - Dmk (Bangkok), Dmk - Syd. (No visa needed for Thailand)

      Have you tried VOA?
Last time I posted my passport to the Vietnamese consulate in Canberra. Which was considered to be the safest process, and also gives you an easy entry into the country.

However after postage fees, passport postal insurance fees, it does cost quite a bit

Re: VOA, Yep done it a dozen times. In my experience, the worst part is that it took between 20 mins and 1 hour processing waiting time at VOA counter. Also you need $USD cash.

Yeah, done it heaps of times too. I don't really get why people would pay 3-4 times more just to get the visa beforehand. I've never had to wait more than 20 minutes.

        • @Flying Ace:

Do you need to apply online beforehand? I read something about needing approval of getiing a VOA

        • @zrach: Yes. Search Ozb for voa deals

  • how much are flights normally for syd - vietnam? by normal, i mean the average price an ozbargainer would pay haha

    • Get a friend to pay for additional luggage and then hide in one of their suitcases. You save heaps!

    • I am currently in Thailand after spending three weeks in Vietnam, and I got $620 tickets with Qantas (BNE-SIN-SGN, BKK-SYD-BNE) when they had a sale earlier in the year. I've had major problems with both Scoot and AirAsia so I won't fly with either again, but this was a great deal with a full service airline (even if their service is crap).

  • Geeze that's so cheap!

    I just booked a Syd-Adl flight for $280 return :(

  • Thanks for the post. Looks like I'll be spending March in Vietnam. Woo!

We have been using Air Asia for years from both the Gold Coast and Sydney without issues. We are off to Thailand for 6 weeks in Nov/Dec as a family of 5 and in this sale I booked for 3 of us to go to Siem Reap Sept/Oct school holidays 2017 for $280 return from the Gold Coast. I booked each part of the flight separate saving a little on each flight. It does mean having to go through immigration at KL but with the delay between flights eg arrive in KL in the evening and can't depart till the following morning we'd have headed to a motel anyway so fly through was of no benefit so might as well save the $28 between 3 of us to use towards the motel room for the night. On our way home the airport layover was 9hrs so we decided to fly back a day earlier and head into KL for a night, turned out the flights the day before were cheaper and saved us aprox $100 and by not doing the fly through we saved about another $30 that $130 will more than cover our night in KL. So it's well worth playing with the dates and looking at booking legs separate, it can pay off to put a little more effort in. Happy holidaying everyone!
