Amazing value too bad about 3g
anyone know average speeds in kbps?

    • +1

yea just 3G, but not a big difference while streaming spotify. Oh yea unlike Optus these people charge for streaming services rite?

      • +2

Yep music streaming and Netflix streaming is counted to your data usage

  • +2

Good deal if you're hungry for more data. I just joined up on the 2gb plan for $18 month but its 4g.

    • Yeah, interesting - I have the 4G package as well. Looks like the unlimited packages are only 3G. But does that mean that everything else is 4G?

      • The unlimited packages are not 3g only

    • +1

Dodo 2gb is cheaper @$17.90 and has more minutes (500)

      • +6

I'd prefer not to go with Dodo. I'll be sticking with Jeenee on this one.

        • Jeenee is an Aussie company with Aussie customer service and they help charities too.
Dodo are based in the Phillipines and if you merely call their sales team for an enquiry about a service they will follow you to the grave and keep calling you, imploring you to sign up etc.

        • @wolfenator87:

Yah, in a previous life I worked for Dodo sales and tech support, dodgy practices to say the least. Stay away would be my recommendation.

An interesting point there. With Vodafone, I was on an older plan which was limited to 3G. However, the 'add-on' data packs were 4G. So after the add on expired, I was on 4G for the rest of the plan.

      • Did you notice a real-world speed improvement of 4G over 3G?

        • +2

Of course… The problem with where I live is that the two dont have the same signals in certain areas. Anyways, with 4G, youtube never buffered. the only issue is that you have to watch your usage or your data will zip in 2 mins flat.

  • I'm on the optus legacy woolworths mobile.
I believe it still uses 3g but it does everything i want it to.
    Melbourne Metro.

  • WOW that's a pretty generous data allowance. I remember when I first got adsl and it wasn't that generous and speeds much slower. Can't wait till we get that kind of data allowance with 4g speeds in a few years.

No 4G, below average support, no real deal imo

    • +4

I've had really good luck with support in the past shame about your experience

      • It wasn't the worst support ever, though they send you around in circles a little. I was signed up for an automatic direct debit after firmly asking to receive bills I could manually pay, had to contact my bank to ensure the direct debit wouldn't be honored (Jeenee mobile had no real clue how to cancel it as it's done by a third party payments company) and it took a total of 7 days to of back and fourth to cancel my contract (despite it being month-to-month). Illegal financial practices, poor solution skills and overall unprofessionalism by ignoring a customers request to cancel a plan and/or putting it off for almost a week. I usually wouldn't overly care (it's a cheap reseller), though Jeenee claims to support disabled persons and in all honestly, with my experience this seems like the type of company that would end up (intentionally or unintentionally) taking monies from a disabled person who doesn't even know better. I have a cert IV in financial services and I myself was even tricked into a direct debit (they claimed they needed a photocopy of a bank statement for ID purposes, then used the account number to set it up).

Overall beyond that it's still quite an average deal (support aside) from the 3G factor. If you're using it as a mobile plan I doubt you'll use 30GB (I use well under 10 with mobile + 4G broadband combined), as a home broadband replacement 3G is a little slow and unstable, and 30GB won't be quite enough to replace a landline anyway (maybe ~50 min?).

tl;dr: You're paying a premium for fancy data numbers you won't use, while putting up with a slower network and (imo) terrible customer support. If you're someone happy to use only 30GB a month, can put up with setting up a hotspot constantly and will be able to cancel your ADSL, then sure, worth. For the rest of us, better off with the $40 Optus deal and a cheap landline internet connection.

I contacted their support to change plans yesterday and it was done in 2 minutes. No complaints from me.

      • +4

I second crno2012 and macgregors… great customer support from me too.

  • +3

    3G is a deal killer.

  • +5

Once prices get down do the $40 range for 50gb i would almost consider disconnecting the ADSL and eliminate another bill.

    • Perfect as an ADSL substitute, or replacement for that matter. $40 would be the sweet spot :)

  • how well does the youtube work on 3g ?

    • I usually get around 1/4 of 3g speeds if I use vodafone, and I don't even have trouble streaming youtube on them. I guess it depends on the the quality of the videos you are trying to stream. 3g is still relatively fast, it's faster than my old adsl 2+ connection. Which I could still stream netflix on and could manage 500gb of downloads some months.

  • Can you even use 30gb a month on 3g?

Wasn't that long ago, 5gb on amaysim was enough. Took so long to load pages….you tube was just a far off dream.

    Now 4g, and I'm using about 20gb a month mobile data……

  • What would be the best 4G deal out there for approx 10GB a month?

    • +3

Check out virgin with their sim only plans, pretty competitive

  • +2

Annoyed with all the people complaining about 3G speeds. I have a 1mbps internet connection and it makes me feel bad.

    • +2

      get a 200gig 4g hotspot from optus, about $80

      • No, I can only get Optus 3G

        • +1

          thats a bugger.

  • +3

To be honest, Optus' 4G is plenty usable but it isn't fast, most of the time its speed would be around 10-20mbps for me (in Sydney cbd), and 3G is often running at about the same speed or slightly slower like 8-9mbps, which is already very usable.

  • +1

With optus 3g network crowded as it is, you're lucky to get anything over 300kb/s.

    • +2

Not true. I get consistent speeds of 4-5mbps

    • +1

Not sure what people's issue with 3G is. It's plenty fast, even for youtube/netflix on 720p. Not sure about 1080p.

  • +1

Is this an evolution in mobile plans or just a trick of Jeenee?

    • It's probably a strategy for Jeenee to get premium customers on-board. If they have plenty of data bandwidth available on the 3G network might as well make it a plan to appeal to these customers ; those that use high mobile data usage or are considering it as a 'lite'home broadband replacement/substitute.

  • If this was Telstra I'd be on this 100% but no Telstra = no outback reception = no good :(

    • I have been using Optus for a few years now and have found their rural NSW and rural Qld coverage very good. Both in call coverage and data coverage. In rural NSW I rarely have a problem or at least I would not have to move far to get coverage if in remote areas. I would imagine rural Victoria would be even better, but can't say for sure.

  • Using both opera and firefox, cant seem to add it to cart, my cart is always empty

  • Can this be used in a mobile broadband device or is it for phone handsets only?

We recently moved to Aus from UK and have been using a Vodafone Pocket Wifi but have already spent $150 on data in less than a month (essentially just on realestate and tripadvisor apps!) so was wondering if this would be a viable cheaper alternative.

    Thanks

    • Much cheaper alternative. You can just use your phone as a hotspot then you will have mobile broadband.
