9313

iPhone 7 comes out, old models drop in price.
No exception for the 64gb iPhone SE which has dropped price from $829 to $749 at the Apple store. Plus Apple store offers free delivery.
16gb still remains at the original price of $679 for now.

Officeworks/Goodguys/Harvey still have it listed at $829, so hopefully you can get them to pricematch/beat.

edit: damn guys, calm down. if you dont like iphones then move along.
Good find punkman. ninja price drop by Officeworks down to $748 in the past hour.

Looks like the normal Apple price…

      • +31

The normal apple price IS $749

This is just the RRP of this phone…

Just because other stores are charging more than RRP does not make this a bargain.

        • The apple watch sport (old watch) 38mm is now $279 rrp in store. Would this not be a bargain? As previously posted from Myer, Harvey Norman and jb hifi?

        • -1

@MountFranklin: a new RRP price means its now the new NORMAL price

          its not a bargain

thought i was on ozbargain, not ozblindsheep. isnt that the new zealand sister site?

        • +1

          @furythree:

          Heh ozblindsheep

Please tell us more wise and enlightened leader

        • @furythree:

So why are the Myer, harveynorman, and jbhifi posts considered a deal if they are the same thing or are you saying they should not be classified as a deal too

        • +1

@MountFranklin: at the time those posts were a discount on their regular prices

this post was made a few days later from apple officially making these new lower prices STANDARD.

So if another retailer post came up it would not be a deal anymore despite it only being 3 days since apples essentially telling you that you can get it for this price everyday. So for something to be a bargain it would need to beat apple's RRP

which several people have already posted examples of

        • @furythree:
I guess then if apple drop their watch rrp to $100 then it is not technically a deal but it still would be noteworthy on the front page of ozbargain.

        • +1

@MountFranklin: which is a good example because the discount also has to be significant and not nominal

this kind of discount on such an expensive phone using outdated hardware that others are selling for $200 was never a bargain to begin with

but if something else has a price drop officially that is significant enough then it can also constitute a bargain

        • @furythree:
it must be significant enough to be a bargain if it's selling out in all stores within a day or a few hours if you look at the post for myer's sale

        • @MountFranklin: if they had that much stock to begin with

        • @furythree:
All colours in stock as of Sunday morning at chermside Westfield Brisbane :)

      • +14

829 was the normal apple RRP, now it's 749. It's a price drop not a bargain.

      • +1

Agree with jv normal price. Are we starting to post every price drop on old obsolete tech items

        • There's a price drop on the apple watch sport 38mm to $279 in the apple store as it is an "old obsolete tech". Is this not a bargain as it was for the Myer, jbhifi and Harvey Norman deals?

    • +21

      But it's got free delivery

      • +2

        Lol

      • +47

It comes with a free headphone jack

        • +8

Or headphone Jill for the females loll

        • +1

youre not brave enough to buy the new iphone 7?

        • @furythree: I'm just not courageous enough, only Firefighters, Paramedics, Astronauts, Superheroes etc buy iPhones.

        • +1

@The Land of Smeg: don't forget Sheep (allegedly)

      • +4

like all products on the Apple website…

  • +3

Not sure if we should consider this as a deal because it's current RRP but it's definitely good time to wait for those 20% discount.

  • +15

This phone was in the six hundred range during the last 15% off ebay sale.

  • -7

$733 delivered from Kogans, and they are never the cheapest with this stuff

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/apple-iphone-se-64gb-space-grey… Phone 64GB is $699 Delivery $34

    • -5

lol, comment negged for giving cheaper alternative to this so called "RRP" or "bargain"

You guys are a disgrace to bargain hunters out there.

      • Nah you are

        • +1

You prefer the more expensive option, you are on the wrong site. But ok then

        • +7

@punkman: I wouldn't prefer any option tbh. But yes I would rather spend $15 more and have a genuine product with local warranty

        • +2

@Savas: in the end punkman is correct, it is about finding out if its a deal or not , and in this case, no its not a deal, the only people to neg are the mac tards , who are apple everything, to bad it doesn't give you brains with a purchase, in the end if you choose to buy the product for $15 more, thats upto you, yet his point is valid.

        • +1

@Avacardooo Rayy Mee: You should be able to find grey imports always cheaper. Let's neg every phone deal then

        • +2

@Savas: Yes it's a grey import yet they offer a warranty also. In the end the deal posted is not that much of a great deal. It's a price drop due to the 7

        • @Avacardooo Rayy Mee: Yeah okay, agree it is no bargain. Have a good weekend.

        • +1

          @Savas: apple has global warranty

the grey important argument doesnt apply to apple products. just buy whomever is cheaper

    • +12

      Grey import mate.

      • +1

the warranty argument doesnt apply to apple products. so grey or local doesnt mean squat

    • +7

      Apples and oranges mate

    • +3

      Grey import / Local stock.

      zzz

      • new
        Grey import / Local stock.
        zzz

Not so. Kogan HK Limited offer these phones
Kogan Pty Limited (the Australian business) do not import them as then GST would need to be collected and remotes to Australuan Tax department.

  • +8

My guess you are getting negs for not comparing like for like. Grey import vs local stock, 12 months warranty and no gst vs local 24 months warranty and can claim back gst.

    • +6

I had a 35 months old iP5s (originally purchased 06/09/2013) with a faltering screen, and bad battery replaced a couple of weeks ago by the local Apple store for $0.

Initially I was told that warranty had expired, but once I mentioned ACL and after checking with the manager, they relented and replaced it with a new device. It was kept in a nice case so as a result showed no marks of use anywhere on the device.

Try getting that kind of service with a Grey import device.

      • +1

        acl? sorry

      • +1

Did you get a replacement like for like? 5S for 5S?

        • +1

Yes, handed them my 5S and he walked out, with a sealed white box containing a 5S.

      • What does the ACL say that would warrant a replacement 3 years later?

        • The word 'reasonable'.

  • +12

    RRP is not a bargain

    • +9

It was $829 last week, not sure why op is getting down-voted for saying that. I'm not saying it is a great bargain, but it is $80 cheaper than last week. Good Guys still have the price at $829 for example, although it will come down in the next few days.

      • +20

        Because iPhone are controversial bargains
If I posted a deal where the S7 dropped $80, there wouldn't be a problem

        • +1

$80 from RRP as an adjustment to normal price even for s7 isnt a bargain

its RRP is over $1000AUD. its been listed here many times for around mid $600 mark

$4-500 price difference more than justifies grey imports

  • +2

    Ok then
    http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/iphone-se-6… $1 cheaper

    https://www.dicksmith.com.au/da/buy/apple-iphone-se-64gb-ros… ~$70 cheaper

Give another day or 2 when pricing for iphonhe rolls out, the iphone SE will be much cheaper

    • +9

      dick smith is Kogan v2

    • Damn I am running out of negs

      • -6

I still got 4 left for the day.

If purchasing a samsung id understand the need for warranty, but hey spend your money how you want.

      • +2

I'm not even allowed yet…6 more days left!

        • +1

Oh are you not allowed to neg in your first month? Didn't know that lol

        • @illumination: Yeah haha. I think i didn't even use my account the first month

  • +12

I'm still surprised people are still paying shit loads of their hard earned cash for something like this.

    • +1

Well bugger me thanks for that, I can rest easy now.

    • +10

Great phone for small phone lovers like me. Price could be better. I got mine however with an office reimbursement so I got my 64 GB one at Officeworks.

  • -8

iPhone SE not worth it, just like, when they launched iPhone 5C.

  • +11

But this phone has a headphone jack

  • +69

Get an extra 30c on a $100 eGift card, hundreds of votes.

Get an extra $2 for going through hoops of steps, applying code, mobile site, email, etc. etc., hundreds of votes.

OP mentions a price reduction of $80 from the ACTUAL seller, flamed and negged.

Just have to hate OzBargain sometimes.

    • +3

      Haha youte right

    • +18

OzBargain is complicated. I'm glad though that people can express different opinions, within reason of course.
The comments that tend to annoy me the most are the ones that say things like "this is a shit phone". It adds no value and it's a worthless opinion that tells you what to think. Does it inform anyone of anything quantifiable about the product?
I'd rather debate if it's a bargain than have to read crap like that.
I'm in favour of this post being a bargain as it may help someone who was waiting for a price drop and likes to buy from Apple.
It is also complicated when the Dick Smiths and Groupons have a sale every 5 minutes. That just becomes "yet another Groupon spam". I wonder if I can set a Groupon filter :)

      • +1

I haven't seen Groupon mentioned here for years. Oh, that's right I blocked it.

      • I agree with this. Last week the same phone was around $710 delivered from Kogan without the proper frequencies for Australia (Band 28) nor warranty supported by Apple (which everyone would agree is worth it's weight in gold), so in comparison to getting it grey market, it is much better value.

Also if you want "in" on the Apple EcoSystem with longer term iOS upgrades, it is a bargain compared to buying an iPhone 6S (which has similar internals and camera).

    • -4

Mate couldn't have put it better, regular contributors have been posting mediocre deals lately and don't take constructive feedback nicely, however this deal gets a huge OMG.

      • -1

I have noticed some regular contributors don't even comment in their deals anymore. Just post em up and go hunting for more!

        • +3

Some cbf with the negative replies to comments :/

        • @Spackbace: Makes me wonder how many people come on here for the comments in deals and forums.

        • +2

          @ShamelessBargains:

A few that have no intentions of posting themselves, but bash down those that do :/

Go to comment, end up in an argument…

That's why a few posters choose not to comment, or reply

        • @Spackbace: I feel the Ozbargain community can be very critical sometimes but at the end of the day if the deal doesn't apply to you (Apple deals especially), then why bash it in the first place? I guess some people enjoy trolling too much under online anonymity…

        • @ShamelessBargains:

          Yep

But hence why if negativity can be avoided, it's nice to do so

          Yeah?

      • +5

regular contributors have been posting mediocre deals lately

At least they're still trying to contribute, unlike some members who have been part of this site for over 2 years without making a single post.

        • +2

          Burn!

  • -1

    So cheap! Not

  • Good deal. It's surprising a good phone. I prefer a larger screen however for those on a budget it's a good processor at a good price

  • -8

Wow, this is what I don't get about these deals. If you're huge Apple fan you would never buy such an old phone. If you on the fence or not an apple fan then any Android phone for $750 will blow this phone out of the water. It's a terrible deal.

    • +5

Actually this has an A9 processor and a decent camera. So no most phones would not blow it out of the water. Only the highest end ones released in recent months.
This is actually a phone with very good performance in a smaller form factor. Not many of those on the market.

    • +4

I have android because I can't afford Apple anymore ….. value is a funny thing hence luxury cars luxury wallets watches ….. it's not just $ it's also form function appearance etc. Apple have good iOS support so you get good lifespan from their devices ….. can't be said for my box full of android phones as they rarely support the next version of android. not many android phone models have been supported from release with android 4.4 to 5 to 6 .

yet Apple support IOS for their models for many years.

      • +2

Good point on upgrade path… I went through some reasonable phones in the draw to install Pokemon go for kids but two aren't supported by Samsung after 4.3… No love there.

Although iOS upgrades invariably crush the speed of older phones (eventually) and thus lead to frustration also. I guess apple supports longer, but old hardware just becomes paperweights eventually in either case

    • +1

You can be an apple fan that prefer the smaller phones, or want an iPhone but don't want to spend considerably more for a 7.

Performance wise this will be in line with a 6s which is no slouch.

    • +4

This phone uses NVMe storage, which is much faster than the eMMC typically found in other flagship phones. Even ufs 2.0 Samsung use in their flagships is nowhere near as fast. Combine that with the A9 SoC, still as fast if not faster than the current Exynos and Qualcomm offerings, and you'll have one of the best performing phones you can currently buy.

  • +2

Thanks cpho, I've been wanting an iPhone SE since they came out but didn't want grey imports. I think I'll get one as soon as myer lowers their prices (i've been accumulating gift cards)

    • You like small screens?

      • +2

I prefer the small screen. Currently have a 5s and when that finally carks it, I hope they still have this form factor available.

        • +1

yeah the small phones fit into jeans pockets and you can sit on them , also use them with one hand ….. tricky on train with my phablet if I don't get a seat as one hand holds onto something and the phablet is too big to use with one hand.

      • +1

No, I don't like small screen but the SE is the perfect size for me. I don't need a larger screen than that, and what the others said, fits in my pocket better too. I'm still using the iPhone 4S so I know it's going to be a bit bigger but I really like the size and shape. I prefer the square sides, easier to hold then the 6/7.

    • -2

No worries. You'll probably be able to get them to pricematch at Myers anyway if you don't want to wait

  • +3

Fits in pocket = Also lowers sperm count with radiation

    • +2

Meh, my swimmers have been going fine thus far.
