10% off Optus 24 Month Phone Plan or SIM Only Plan for Having a .EDU Email Address

670

Hi All

The Optus unidays offer has ended. and optus has a new promo for ANYONE with .edu email address. not only students.

I have tried and it works, i'm both staff and student at a uni. go the the link and enter your .edu email address.

If you have previously used your email for unidays, and need another 10% off, this is perfect. you can get another 10% off again on another plan/product.

edit: new sign up only, i cant verify if you can modify existing contract.

Hope it helps someone, Mods please move to forum if you deem fit.

  • clearly the deal is for students only.

    • No!!

    • +9

i dont think optus cares much about validating each individual student status. its up to your personal integrity to decide if this is a deal or not. Good day.

    • Anyone could pls pm me a email and code?

  • +1

The $50 plan for $45 with unlimited calls and text, 15Gb and 500 international minutes is awesome value. Can't seem to get my code to apply though…

    • it took about 30 mins for my code to come through, good luck.

    • Thanks OP, this sounds awesome if the 500 international minutes are to any country, will try and check it out after Vodafail has made changes to its international minutes allowances

Anyway to get a edu email?

    • +3

Attend uni/TAFE/other institution that gives you an edu email. :P

That said, I have a lifetime email from my uni… so I've been able to sign up for some pretty cool stuff. I think this is why Unidays is taking off - it's able to exclude people like me who have a valid email, but who aren't currently enrolled.

      • -4

That isn't necessarily going to give people access. Some universities have an API that Unidays uses to check enrollment information. You have to provide your university credentials, and then UniDays will automatically check your enrollment details and require you to reverify the account after you exceeded the length of the degree.

        • +2

That's … what I referred to in the second half of my post.

      • +1

Heads up you can actually just decline to use the API verification of UniDays and just select something like "I wish to verify my university account a different way". Then you can just choose to receive an email. I did it about 2 weeks ago on Unidays

        • Nice. You do have to say what year you are in, in your course though… haha.

        • +1 I didn't have the API verification, just used my uni email and it worked. I think it helped i had a unidays account 3-4 years ago when i was at uni though.

    • Become a student or a teacher.

    • +2

do you have a alumni email? it should work too, just as long as there is .edu in it.

  • Anyone know is it for a new service only? Can it be applied to current account?

    • my guess is new service only, but i cant verify it.

  • +1

    what about alumni email?

and can it be applied on an existing contract?

    • if you can log on to your alumni email, you can get the code too.

      • I'm pretty sure my alumni email gets forwarded to my gmail, so it's worth a try. :)

But no one's been able to confirm that it can be applied to an existing account.

  • Got the promo code~ Thanks!!

    Work for staff email too!

    • can yout get two codes for one email pls?

  • This is much better.

Also you might want to specify phone plans.

If you have previously used your email for unidays, and need another 10% off, this is perfect. you can get another 10% off again.

    Wow, that's hax.

    • Can I apply this offer to an existing sim only plan ?

    • how do you stack both?

      • sorry i dont think you can stack, i apologise if i misled you, i have change the details in the op.

  • So if you're an existing optus customer, can you use this? or is this for new or recontracting customers only?

    • i believe its new customers only, i cant verify if existing customer can apply.

    • If it's anything like the Unidays one, you can talk to customer support and they can apply it to your account and start getting the discount (that's what I did)

However this isn't the Unidays code, so it may be different.

      • its much like unidays, its just that optus runs their own promotion. so someone give it a go and i'll update the post

        • Just had a chat with the optus rep. Said he wasn't able to apply it mid-contract, and that I'd have to wait until my contract ended. He did say he could raise a complaint? though I'm not sure what that means cause I couldn't be bothered going through with one.

        • @scarypacman:
See this is where things get tricky.

Whether it can be added mid-contract, lets say you are 12 months into your contract. This is fair enough it can't be added. But for those that got on a contract when the offer first began (about a month ago) AND didn't add it until now seem to be eligible from one persons case below.

Anyone who has only had their contract for a month, see if you can have this added and get back to us, haha.

    • hi its recontracting as well

  • Can anyone go through checkout? No response from the website when applying code.

  • Any one need one code pm me

  • its for sim plans or phone plans only.. I was going to use it for internet but no luck.

From the email with the code:
"Here's your promo code to save 10% off your monthly plan fees on any 24 month phone plan or SIM Only plan. Just apply your code in checkout."

Update: using the 24/7 chat service they were unwilling to apply code to existing internet account.

    • thanks, i will update the post.

  • +10

got the code with my edu.au account

i'm an exisiting optus customer, 10% works fine

    ordered iphone 7 128gb black

    • +3

Why negative votes? Because of his phone choice?

      • yeah, its good that someone tried. unless i am missing something.

      • +3

lol. phone is not for me, but meh whatever, ozbargin has spoken

    • Am i missing something? Thought all the orders for the 7 closed and the student discount didn't apply?

Happy to be corrected here and this will benefit me :)

      • Looks like only the 7+ is closed, normal iPhone 7 is still open.

        • cant see 7 available anymore just 6, 6s and SE left

        • +1

@jabroni: not sure if it's still available, but if you preorder through optus.com.au and not the promo website you can enter the code by selecting that you have a .edu email and code.

        • @ballistykx:

          ahh cool cheers

    • How did you order ? All pre orders are closed ??

      • I think pre orders only closed for the iPhone 7 plus

The normal iPhone 7 said it will be shipped out by 29th sept

  • Does Telstra offer something like this?

  • Got the code with my RMIT account, was instant

  • +1

Shame Murdoch University doesn't provide alumi an edu.au email 🙁

  • Is there an expiry on this one?

I'd wait until certain models get Android 7 Nougat before committing to purchase them.

  • +26

Not a student? If you have a gmail account just add +.edu to your username. So [email protected] becomes [email protected]. The promo code will be emailed to the same email address :)

    • You are a legend jdogg! I knew about a guy in fiverr who would give you a .edu mail for five bucks after most of the providers blocked old hacks with US universities. But didn't think about this shortcut.

    • Red hot hack right here :)

    • How do i do this? Can't seem to make it accept the email

      • looks like they closed the loop hole some time today as i received a promo code yesterday but now it wont verify.

  • actually the 7gb plan looks ok to me, if you get the 256gb version of the standard phone it comes down to like 19$ for 7gb plan, thats pretty good and if you apply this uni code its like $17 just for the plan,… thats a nice break, and whats more its kind of a payment plan, i really have to consider getting it myself now, since im with ovo and pay $34 for 8gb a month not phone,. this wuld be close to half price.

  • Is it possible to get 10% off on home bundles too.

    • Nope, optus student offers are only for mobile

  • Here's six codes for anyone that wants them :)

    STUDUF36V
    STUDYGENL
    STUDW66WS
    STUDD31NH
    STUDIESRZ
    STUDV5724

If these codes don't work it's probably because someone used the code before you.

    • +1

they will require the email address which you use to receive the code too.

      • Damn, you're right. Oh well…

        • +1

thanks for your kindness anyway. Also, one of previous comments mentioned about adding "[email protected]" thing, I tried and it worked :)

    • Anyone know if you can use a different email to receive the bills?
If so all you need is the initial code and uni email address.

      • +1

yes you still nominate your own email address to setup your account or use your existing if re contracting

        • cheers.
          I'll do this tonight!

        • @dasher86: best to do through chat

        • @CozmerkIsenberg:
          why through chat?
they closed the loophole for the [email protected]
but i can get access to a .edu email but i'd rather receive the bills straight to me.

    • Have you got any valid code together with edu email pls?

  • +1

Just upgraded using this code. Made it worthwhile for me. $105 plan for $94.50 which is less than I pay now for a new phone and 8 more gigs. Cheers

  • +1

I'm currently on the $50/m plan with 15gb data with an USYD alumni email. Just talked with a rep on their live chat, said I was eligible for the offer. She also said it takes 3-5 business days for it to be activated.

    • How long have you been on your contract for? I thought this was only for new contracts taken up with this offer.

      • Just last month when they first announced the deal

        • Cheers, good to hear it can be added after the plan has been activated, a rep told me that this wasn't possible. But they seem to say different things based on how much they know.

  • Quick question:
I have an .edu email address, and have the promo code, just wondering how this is done in-store? I am going to be lining up at the Optus Store Friday morning (for you know why, don't judge) and don't want to have to provide a student card or something I no longer have. When online, I don't need any of that.

Also, if there are any Apple Staff here, Optus have been giving mixed opinions of whether the Apple Store Specialists can give this discount or not. It is stipulated in the T+C's that it's available only from Optus Online/In-Store, but would make getting the iPhone7+ much easier since Optus always gets way less stock.

    Cheers,

    • Only selected stores. Wasnt at the one i went to today. So i spoke to a rep online who did it for me and did my predorder so my plan will rollover to a new one on Friday.

      • but can we walk in friday morning with the code and get one on the spot?

        • +1

Only at selected stores. In SA its west lakes and ttp. Not sure about other states. They may be able to apply the discount over the phone after you sign up.

        • @avinit86: any list of stores available or we gotta walk in and talk to em?

        • [@jabroni] not sure mate sorry maybe give them a call?

        • +1

          @jabroni: It's in the FAQ https://www.optus.com.au/student-hub?SID=con:postmob:student…

EDIT: But yeah, not sure what kind of student proof you need in store. I live near one of these stores, so I think i'll ask them. But I hope I can just get the discount added in the Apple Store and not worry about cueing at Optus.

i was at the store to get a samsung s7 on the promo $65 plan. i did not have my student id with me. all they require was that i go to their link and get myself a code, and use my code and email for registration of the new plan and phone. hope this helps with the first question.

      • Thanks!

  • Trying to buy the Silver colour Galaxy S7 bundle. In the cart, the color gets changed to Black. So annoying …. Does anyone else having similar issues ?

    • try speaking to someone on the web chat? they are quite helpful.

  • Hi Guys, I signed up for $50 plan with 15gb data for $45/month but they have given me 20gb
and mrs signed up for the $40 plan with 8gb data for $36/month but they gave her 10gb
win-win? thanks optus ? some kind of long time customer bonus maybe

    • Did you have to ask someone. Sales rep simply said no to me.

      • I didn't ask anyone

  • Hi, tried to use email with @education.nsw.gov.au, keeping tell me to "Enter a valid .edu email"

    • It won't work. You need to have one with '.edu' at the end

    • +1

Hey, It worked for me today! Even though it didn't work yesterday, I tried again today and got it instantly.

  • How long will this offer be running for? Missed out on the S7 deal last month trying to convince the partner to change over. Hoping Optus will have another deal before the end of the year and that this deal will still be valid for it.

  • I got my code but it's not valid. Anyone got the same problem?

    • try the web chat, they are usually very helpful and keen to push the deal.
