Xbox 360 Arcade $199 with Lips, Two Wireless Mics, Mass Effect, Banjo Kazooie and Halo 3

830

In the tradition of $199 Xbox 360 arcades,

This deal has been hinted at in previous threads. ie. here

http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/26048

http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1430056&p…

This particular bundle has been discontinued and slowly discounted by Target until it is now $199

It contains

Xbox 360 Arcade - (Jasper) with Halo 3, Mass effect, Banjo Kazooie in separate cases.
It also comes with the Lips pack - (original game and two wireless microphones)

The Target reference number for the bundle is 45380396

Often these bundles are not on display.. and simply out the back forgotten..

The store I purchased from, did not have them on display nor advertised on the shelf and knew nothing about them until I specifically asked them to find this bundle..

There is similar bundle containing the Xbox pro 60gb with the same bundles games for $349….

To find the location of stock, I called customer relations at target, quoted the target reference number and state I was from… I was then provided with a list of stores than were meant to have stock..

I then called the nearest store and confirmed they had stock, before making the trip to purchase…

Not all Targets have stock (very few do). Some stores still had large numbers of these.

P.S. the console I purchased were Manufactured in April 2009…

Edit should add..

Also comes with a One month free trial card of gold live…

The packs are probably left overs from the July 2009 sale where they were $375 as listed here..

$45 wireless controllers are listed here

  • a question

    these have no HDDs right?

so what HDD would you recommend to install? i think you need the official HDD external upgrade thingo?

    • Yep, arcade has no HDD

The xbox hdd is a real ripoff, it might almost be worth buying the elite version.

There are ways you can mimic an xbox hdd, but it is hard and from memory a few people were banned (?) from xbox live last year…

    • i have 120gb, but depends on what you plan to use the console for 250gb is the maximum at the moment

    • +2

A recent update allows you to use any USB flash drive as a memory unit, so you don't really need a HDD at all. This is not a hack, it's an official feature that came out a few months back.

You can have up to 2x16GB HDDs connected at once to store games, downloadable content, save-games etc on.

      • so you could play cod4 & codmw2 on an xbox 360 arcade?

        awesome

  • sounds good

  • +2

just make sure you examine the box before buying, i bought one of these last sale and it turned out to be a refurnished 2006 model(non hdmi) reboxed and sold with some crap games. It was still sealed in the box but clearly had been fixed.

  • +1

    is this available in WA?

    • i want to know too. is this available in WA?

    • yesss

  • Awesome deal if you can get it

    • They're still around, I just managed to get the last 3 at the Geelong city store. When I called customer service to find stock, the lady already knew the reference number and said I was the fourth person to call today. Thanks heaps Kelvin, you've made me, my brother and a friend very happy.

  • Nice price, but I would've preferred the other game bundle. =(

Hopefully this is the start of a massive price cut across the board.

    • I doubt it…

Just a special clearance price for a discontinued bundle…

Esepcially given the Xbox 360 arcade without the games is $299 at Target…

  • +1

why dont you just call the customer relations number and find out if thier available instead of asking someone else, clearly, target arent pushing this bundle, so your going to have to ask a store or the customer relations number, and not here….

  • Wow, great information provided and you have obviously gone through a lot to get it. Thanks for sharing.

  • my xbox pro died just recently and is no longer under warranty - i've tried getting one of those cheap ebay kits to fix it which worked for a few weeks but once again it has died. If I buy an xbox360 arcade can i add my old pro hdd to it?

    • Yes you can add your old Hard Drive. I have done it many times with new Xboxes. I had an old Pro and have since used that HDD on two new arcade machines.

  • Anyone else had any luck on this deal?

And is it worth getting an xbox now? Natal is coming soon, and with it rumoured new models of the 360 which could bring with it price drops.

    • Isn't Natal just an add-on (sensors)? I thought it would work with Xbox 360?

      • yes, Natal is an add-on. But I'm sure they will release new bundle deals to include Natal with a 360 + games, etc. I've also heard that there will be a new model of 360 to go with it.

So, quick question please: which is best Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3?

    • +1

      Silly question.

      • I though there was no such thing as a "silly question."

Of course, the answer is probably "it depends" but I just wanted to see if there was a strong opinion either way (since I value the comments from most people on ozbargain). I'm not a gamer.

I didn't include Wii in my question. It was just a comparison of two - similarly focussed(?) - consoles that I don't know much more about than that (and that PS3 has a Blueray drive and Xbox has Project Natal "coming soon.")

I have two boys 9 & 11 who spend too much time on their Nintendo DSs but are desperate for a console. We don't want to get one but sometimes the pressure can be too much ;-) I think they're outgrowing Wii now.

I try to suggest Mac games will do … but they don't …

        So any preferences?

        • +3

i bought an xbox 360 a while back. for about 300 for arcade. paid 140 on sale for a hard drive, paid 75 bux on sale so just my account could play online, paid 40 for rechargeable battery pack and cable, and had to buy an ethernet cord to plug into my laptop and bridge the connection to play wirelessly.

i got sick of microsfot charging over the top for everything, and also the exclusive games i bought the xbox for werent as good as i thought. so i sold it for what i could get.

bought a ps3 for 440 few months ago….and a wireless headset for 75, which are now around 50. the xbox uses wi fi for controllers i think, while ps3 pairs with blue tooth. this also means any bluetooth headset or keyboard/mouse etc can be paired with the ps3.

the ps3 controllers have inbuilt battery packs, charge via usb cable, the console has built in wi fi, free online for every account you make, and comes with either a 120 or 250 gig hard drive which can be upgraded by easily. its just a 2.5inch laptop drive and there are instructions in the manual for doing so.

i also found that the power cord for the ps3 is just a small cord which plugs into the console. compared to the xbox one with that massive power supply box which you have to try and place somewhere. ps3 also has blueray, and in my opionion looks a lot better and is smaller than the xbox.

so unless you absolutely want xbox exclusive games (or if you really like their controllers, they are pretty comfortable), id reccomend the playstation for much better value and quality. i thought xbox was cheaper intially (cos the arcade was cheaper), but they try to grab your money any chance they get. by the time u buy a wifi adaptor and hard drive, the ps3 is already the cheaper option.

          • @StalkingIbis: if u had bothered u could
            1. get a modified hard drive for muchc heaper
            2. pay $45 for 1yr live at gamecard

should shop around and research next time

ps: 360 games are much cheaper

            • @micromanage: im happier with the ps3

              • -1

@StalkingIbis: such a stupid rant … you could have just said that to start with and saved yourself from embarrassment !! So you paid $300 for an arcade 360, what were the other things mentioned ? OPTIONAL !!

                Hard drive
                XBL Gold
                Play & Charge kit
                Ethernet cable (seriously ?)

With the dashboard update you don't even need a Hard drive anymore, you can use ANY plain old usb thumb drive. Xbox Live Gold subscription is needed "if" you want to play online (not everybody does) and cost $50 for 12 months @ gamecard/maximuscard/ebay. Play & Charge kit cost $30, but as i said earlier; its an OPTIONAL purchase. Why not just buy rechargeable batteries ? A $2 Ethernet cable ?

2nd off - You say 360 exclusives are crap, what exclusives on PS3 are good ? You can't just down talk one thing and praise the other because of personal opinion, put it down to facts.

I can honestly say my Wii will prolly get more attention when Super Mario Galaxy 2 is released than my PS3 has had all year !! Would be more fair to say 2 years !!!

                waiting for answers …

                • @JOCKz: stupid rant?

i was just saying the facts dude. i said what i paid for things, and if u add it up, you will see the ps3 was the cheaper option….

if u dont buy the ethernet cable u buy the wireless adaptor for how much???

he now has more information to make a decision on, obviously if he decides he doesnt want to play online the xbox may end up being cheaper for him and he can decide on that.

did i say the exclusives were crap? i said they werent as good as i thought they would be. i dont have any ps3 exclusives…..so why not get the machine that makes it cheaper to play the titles that are available on both?

all the methods youve mentioned are a muck around way to do things. buy rechargeable batteries, buy usb sticks, have ethernet cables running around. some people just prefer convienance and practicality.

how long ago did microsoft release this update to allow for usb drives anyway? why didnt they do that from the start? its good that they did though.

so just to clarify. if all youre going to do is play a bare bones machine, buy the cheap xbox for 200 bux certainly. however, if your boys are wanting to play online, or you want a blu ray or a hard drive or whatever else, maybe you should consider long term costs.

jockz if you have any other problems with what ive said be sure to correct me. im on here cos i like saving money, i was just giving mrhatken some food for thought on costs. not once did i say xbox was crap and ps3 are the best. i was clearly talking about what you get for your money.

                  • @StalkingIbis: Xbox + Blue ray player = $400
                    PS3 = $450ish
You pay a bit more but you don't have two boxes laying around, I guess you have to pay a premium for that. Plus you get built in wi-fi (albeit no N).

If you want something for all round entertainment, PS3 (that might change with the foxtel thing.. but than again that's gonna cost an arm and a leg).

If you want something to just play games at the least expense, Xbox.

                  • @StalkingIbis: So you spent all this money on a 360, then sold it off to buy an overpriced Bluray player ? If you're not playing PS3 exclusives why do you even own one ?

                    • @JOCKz: free online was the main factor. will pay itself off in a few years. inbuilt wifi was a plus to tidy things up but not essential. oh yeh, i did buy god of war 3, finished it and sold it. it was good but like the xbox exclusives, not enough to merit buying a ps3 for. hopefully gran turismo will be good.

                  • @StalkingIbis: Calam05 - I was grateful for your post! Cheers, Ashley.

                  • -1

@StalkingIbis: Lmao at your mentioning of your Ethernet cable.
                    Go to MSY or fluidtek.
If you went to dicksmith for an ethernet cable.. you got pwned noob!

        • +1

If you want to play media / Blu rays (and don't have a player), grab a PS3.

If not, 90% of the games are multiplatform, and if you don't really have any preference, might as well grab a 360. $200 for a console and 5 games is ridiculously cheap.

          • @Autonomic: plus, most multi-platform games are better on 360 than PS3.
Some by such a margin they are almost unplayable on PS3 (Bayonetta anyone?)

    • Which console is better is completely subjective so it's pointless asking. Only fanboys say one is better than the other. Buy whichever you like and enjoy it.

    • indeed, each person has their own preferences.
also look at which controller you prefer to use, as they are different.
the other thing to look at is comparing the games you want to play and seeing which performs/looks best between 360 and PS3. there are many sites which compare games across platforms.

  • deleted

  • These are very likely to be Jtag'able consoles for those in the know about this stuff.

    • Can someone confirm this?

  • just got one from Glenorchy ( TAS) last one on the shelf - no stock in City Target - Nice buy - off to ebay to flog games - all in retail boxes -

Dash version 2.0.7363.0 with HDMI and Jasper April 09 build.

So the answer to the above question is yes!

    • What did you get for the trade-in's?

  • Excellent deal.

  • For those looking in Victoria … Try Knox….

  • Have called all of northern suburbs Melbourne, no luck…

  • Went passed Malvern today, they had nothing. Would have tried Chadstone as well but parking was a nightmare so just gave up and left. I really want this, esp for Mass Effect and Halo, two xbox games I'd really like to try but driving out to Knox is a bit too far.

    • +1

for this bundle at this price, i would drive.

      • Considering I live in Sydney I might just have to fly down there.

    • +1

Lucky you didn't bother with Chadstone…
… The stores that had stock on Friday were
Ringwood, Epping, Camberwell, Knox, Templestowe, Broadmeadows, AIrport west?, Greensbourough

But most have probably been cleaned out by now….
Knox definitately had stock this morning when I called..

  • so there's none in NSW??? or sydney metro specifically?

    • Picked one up at Carlingford NSW for $199.88.

But it wasnt quite the same bundle. This one had PGR4, Viva Pinata and Halo 3, as well as the normal Arcade disk.

Manufacture date 2006 and it is non-HDMI.

Will be jtagable. Willing to sell the console for $200 without the games if you want to jtag.

      • Any left?

        • I got the last one at Carlingford. Hornsby had some last week but suspect they went today.

  • +1

thanks to OP for the deal. just got the same deal in Canberra Tuggeranong Target store. They had like 8 left, I got 1 of them, and the guy next to me got the rest all in 1 transaction.

We all know what he'll be doing with all those consoles. lol

    • :( damn that guy…….

oh well, you snooze, you lose.

  • damn it someone in the adelaide CBD bought the last one JUST before i called :(

  • Find any others left in Adelaide Yueytan?

    • nope. called city, edwardstown and main north road. main north road said that if you come in and talk to the manager he will be able to put something together since they have the offer on their system, but i don't know if i can be bothered!

  • For those looking for a cheap HDD, you can get a 3rd party one from Dragonext
    http://www.dragonext.com/120gb-hard-disk-drive-hdd-for-micro…
If you're worried about game saves you can just use a flash drive or a 360 memory card

    • As previously stated - you do not need hard drives anymore as xbox 360 now allows you to install games and DLC onto your flash drive [official firmware update]. Limited to 32gb i think. Better than buying an official one.

  • Thanks Kelvin, champion.

  • no hdmi is a dealbreaker IMO

    • +1

They have HDMI.. if you get the pack that I listed…
      Jasper April 2009 consoles…

If you get the 2006 viva pinta pack… of course it won't have HDMI..

    • the one thats listed in the OP is HDMI version.

  • hey guys
i picked up one of these deals for $199,
and IT IS THE HDMI version.

i got it from the st marys sydney store .. they had 5 left and i bought one so im guessing they will still have some more .. give them a call ..

    • +1

nice! is this the same deal as above (with lips, mass-effect,etc)?
Did you ask them about the code? I'm not far, so do I just go in and ask or call them?

  • someone post up a receipt scan pls

  • ReqMan - which code are you reffering to sorry.

and yes it is the pack with the lips mic and mass effect and halo 3.

  • looks like St Marys sold their last one this morning. Missed out :(
Seems all the stores I've called out west have either sold out, or had none anyway.

  • Damm man .. i knew i should of bought 2 yesterday far out…

sorry to hear bro.. try stores like a bit out of the town like winsor or something . worth the cruise down there for the price man considering it does have the HDMI port like the one i got

  • called customer service, and they said only St Marys and Burwood have some left (their system is based on yesterday's stock). So that only leaves Burwood. I havent called them, as they are a bit far for me to go.
Looks like this deal is done!

  • My Target has this pack with the 60gig Pro version for $349 otherwise $249 for the 60g pro without games. They don't have any arcade.

    • $249 is still cheap if it's jtagable

  • None in burwood, just rung up. Oh well heads up anyways

  • Just picked one up from Knox, massive kudos Kelvin!

  • Hey Zac is there any more at knox?

    • I just called up and the tech guy finished my sentence off for me and said nope sorry buddy, all gone :P

      • Thanks Pokitodki1. Oh well maybe next time..

        • I got one from Knox this morning, so not sure why he told you there were none left. There were two left after I got mine.

    • +1

yeh I got one from Knox this morning as well.

  • I got one from Capalaba. They said the rest of their stock is on hold and if they are not picked up before close tomorrow they will go back on sale.

    • Called up Capalaba and was told they're sold out so I'm assuming they all got picked up?

On a side note, I checked Springwood - they had 3, 2 which was on hold but all 3 were manufactured in 2006. Didn't really want it after that.

      • You're going to hate me. I went back and bought two from Capalaba this afternoon. I wanted a spare.

I'm thinking of taking one back. It has the Xbox sega arcade pack and Lips. It's missing Mass effect, Banjo and Halo 3. It has a mfr date 2008-10-15 and it's 12,1A.

        • You're right, I do hate you. Jokes, lol - would you be able to let me know if you do return it? I've sent you an e-mail too, just incase.

          Cheers!

  • Mine has a 16-04-2009 manufacture date. It has a lite-on drive. Is there any way of figuring out which model it is without dismantling the Xbox?

    Edit: Nevermind. It's Lite-on Model: DG-16D2S, HW: A0A2, FW: 74850C.

  • Picked up two at Toowoomba Target, might be more there.

  • I pickup one from Sydney yesterday, but only have the Lips game inside the package?

Can anyone tell me those games are seaprate or ?

    • They are inside the arcade box. You have to take the Xbox and accessories out of the box and lift up the sides. I did the same thing. The store even thought they were missing from the rest of their stock until someone figured it out.

    • From what store in Sydney??? I've been looking all day.

      • Rhodes shopping centre

        • damn! I gave them a call and they said no. Maybe you got the last one. =(

  • THERE IS HOPE FOR PERTH PEOPLE,WA. I got mine this morning at 9am.LOL got mine at Target East Victoria Park. Carousel,Perth City are out of stock. There are stocks at meadow springs, Inaloo,Bullcreek,Stirling, and Rockingham. Go get em people before it runs out.

ALL games and console was included + mics.
    Xbox Arcade console
    Wireless Controller
    AV cables
    2 Mics
    Halo 3
    Mass Effect
    Banjo K
    Lips

    Good luck perth!

    • Haha I was meant to head into the park centre today.. were there any more in the East Vic Park Target?

      • yes they are still some left in the above shops i mentioned, but then again, bullcreek is out. so it leaves Vic Park, Meadow springs, Inaloo,Stirling, and Rockingham. Just give target HQ a call and they will let u know which other shops in WA has stock(although their system is 2 days slower) =)

  • Good bargain, picked one up from Bullcreek. I think it was the last one, though not too sure. Went to fremantle store first and they had 2 left, but were being held for another lucky bargaineer. Although I was informed by one of the staff members that clearance lines weren't supposed to be able to be held.

  • Ordered one in. It was coming from the Wagga Wagga Store, NSW. They had stock of 4 before I got one sent to my local store.

  • Damn it i missed out! I wonder how much the people who bought several are going to flog them off on ebay for.. and if I'm willing to spend that price. :(

    • I bought 3. One to jtag, one to replace jtag (when it RRODs) and the 3rd one is missing 3 games so I'm taking it back.
