I don't think you can get the $200 bonus.

From the staff on the website:

      BETH | May 16, 2016
I have an ANZ frequent flyer credit card (Blue) can I upgrade to a Platinum with this offer.

With the travel insurance, how do I check if my husband is covered? He has a pre-existing condition from 17 years ago. We are going to Europe in 3 weeks.

      Hi Beth,

      Thanks for your inquiry.

As in the ANZ fine prints, this ANZ Platinum credit card offer is only available to new and approved credit card applicants who apply for an ANZ First, ANZ Platinum, ANZ Low Rate or ANZ Low Rate Platinum credit card account with the balance transfer. So, unfortunately, you may not be able to apply for this card.

As for the complimentary travel insurance attached to the ANZ Platinum credit card, yes, a travelling spouse is also eligible for the cover.

      Cheers,
      May

      • I have already applied for it so need to see if it works.

        • Hi did you qualify for the $200?

  • No point system.

Would people just make this card for the $200 and cancel? Wouldn't credit rating be affected and the ability to borrow money for a home loan for example

    • 'tis what I did the last time this deal was posted. I'm actually planning to legitimately use ANZ's Travel Rewards card (unless something better comes up), so will cancel this card and switch.

But there's no real negative AFAIK of cancelling a card soon after opening it.

    • I'd like to know how the credit rating works as well. All I know is that the credit limit of all credit cards are counted when applying for a home loan. But if it was cancelled before applying, it should be ok, shouldn't it?

Every time time you apply for credit, it is recorded on your credit history: lender, type, amount etc. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but anyone assessing your credit history might be less than enthusiastic if they see a revolving door of credit, especially if this is accompanied by payment details.

In addition, Australian credit rating agencies now also keep 'positive' credit scores. So instead of just recording 'negatives' on your history like payment defaults, any credit provider can record if a bill was paid late. This is 'positive' because if you pay your bills on time, you've got nothing to worry about.

All of this data feeds into each agency's algorithm to calculate a credit score to help credit providers assess your credit worthiness, in accordance with their own criteria.

Strangely enough, this means someone in their 30's whose never had any credit can have as much difficulty applying for a loan as someone with a bad credit history.

        • Thank you.

        • I am still of the opinion that these credit scores are meaningless to lenders if you are consistently employed and have decent (more than 15%) cash holdings in form of equity or other assets. I have never been knocked back for anything, have the standard 10:1 ratio of mortgage to earnings and routinely get 0% 5 figure finance offers and credit increase offers.

        • @smoke87:
I'm sure you're right. I'm also sure that the converse is true for those who aren't in your situation.

There's no doubt that an existing and mutually beneficial relationship with a financial institution may hold significant sway in these situations, particularly as their systems would indicate the type of customer you are (eg your repayment or savings history). But if you check your credit history, there'll be an inquiry on it for each time you've applied for credit, and this will be visible to any new lender you approach whom you don't have an existing relationship with.

IMHO a credit increase offer has more to do with marketing than your credit history/score.

  • Does anyone know if ATO tax payments count towards the $500 spend? The T&C isn't clear on this…

    • Surely you can find $500 worth of surcharge free expenses in 3 months?

but to answer your question "exclude Balance Transfers, cash advances, interest, fees, premiums paid for ANZ Credit Card Insurance, transactions for gambling or gaming purposes, transactions reversed and purchase refunds"…. so it would seem YES

    • I BPAY'd by rates and it was classified an eligible transaction. Don't see how ATO is any different?

Does it give you rental car insurance? After a credit card that gives you cover for rental card any ideas

    • Westpac platinum is the best one. The only card (that I'm aware of) where you don't even need to charge the rental to the card. I got it last time it was on lifetime fee free and essentially sits in the bottom drawer for that purpose only.

    • It sure does πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»

  • I'm often tempted by ANZ credit card offers, but have never had a positive experience with ANZ personally. I'm not sure if I've just been unlucky in my dealings with them. Some of their offers/products might be good, but the customer service experience is just awful for me.

Every ANZ I have been to made it impossible to speak to someone. Get a ticket, excessive wait times, and not very inviting branches. NAB comes a close second, since most NABs in my area seem to think parking is an optional in a country like australia.

      • Haven'tbeen to a branch in 10+ years.

        • For NAB its mainly stupid things like cash deposits/getting change.

Forgot what the hell I was doing at ANZ before, but whatever it was, I remembered having to experience excessive wait times.

  • Thanks for the deal. Applied………..:)

WTF!! Applied and activated. Got the card.
Call them and they told me the deal as ended!!!!'

    • +1

Did you speak with creditcardfinder or ANZ? I talked with a sales person from finder on friday and deal was still on, still up on website too..

      • I spoke with ANZ contact centre and they told me the deal has ended.
        I am confused!!

        • See my comment below 😊

    • The link is still active. Try emailing them with the link?

  • damn im about to apply.

  • +1

May I ask why are people emailing/calling ANZ? Presumably the credit cashback will be applied within 2 months of meeting the criterea so is there a reason why people are calling now?

The promo is still active on finder and on the ANZ website so one would assume that the deal is still active irrespective of what a callcenter monkey knows/says

Just keep a screen capture for future reference if required.

  • Just to put this nonsense to bed, the deal is with finder.com.au not ANZ and is definitely still on:

    Hi anndy
I spoke with anz and they were offering 200cashback on this card but it expired 31 aug 2016. Can i confirm that finder is offering the 200cashback and that the deal is still active?

    Reply:
Hi (me), thanks for getting back.
Our exclusive offer which is available to finder.com.au users is still active with no set end date. To take advantage of this offer, you should apply through our 'go to site' button.
    Cheers,
    Anndy

  • Ok I know others have already confirmed this, but I'll just add my experience as well.

I went to an ANZ branch today and spoke to a representative from personal banking (i.e. not a teller). I asked about the $200 deal. Her initial reaction was that the deal was expired. But then she called up someone (from their 'headquarters', I assume), who confirmed that my credit card was indeed enrolled in the deal.

There is probably some miscommunication within ANZ, so you may need to speak to multiple people to confirm that you are enrolled in the offer.

    • LOL I don't need to speak to anyone. As per the ANZ landing page where I applied for the card, I will get the $200. Why do people keep phoning/calling in and wasting time is beyond me. ANZ is a very large corporation - Online deals can't aren't always properly disseminated to all employees, so I wouldn't waste any time asking about it UNLESS I don't get paid within 60 days or whatever the terms were.

    Got my $200.

    • How long did you have to wait after spending $500 to get the cashback credited into your account?

      • about a week but I suspect it's monthly cycles so it may vary
