Does it have a headphone jack?

    :)

    • +37

Yes it does, and don't call me Jack :P

    • +1

If only Apple did a version of this…

        What?! To witness their courage?

  • +1

I don't know if its the cheapest price EVER posted… https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/221992 (note this deal was valid for both chromecast & chromecast audio).

Ah k, just checked product tags :P

Cheapest price ever posted for 1!

See what I did there? ;)

  • unless if your speaker system hasn't got airplay - it's a pretty good one for the portability

was just tempted to buy one and realised our Harman kardon has airplay support.

  • +1

Keep in mind that you can't play youtube with this unless you stream all audio from your device.

    Otherwise a great price.

    • Yeah it's a real pain - I would have bought a normal Chromecast and run it through a HDMI -> optical converter if I had known.

    • +1

You can if you have youtube music.

Although, weirdly, it seems to cut some long (>1hr) tracks off early.

  • +1

    Good for the car??

    • +1

      No, needs a wifi connection

  • -2

Can't really find a use for this, doesn't come with inbuilt speakers or anything does it?

    • +4

It does, but only dogs can hear the sound coming from them

      • +1

        You're not funny. <:/

        • +16

Well, ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer :)

        • That's Jack for you.

  • +1

Good deal, will be ordering 2.

  • It says coming from HK, if so does it come with the AUS wall plug?

    • +1

Likely should (but not sure), but can run off any USB 5V/1A source (so any charger around the house with a USB plug :)

      • +1

Yeah I have 2 USA versions of CCA, just wanting a 3rd, preferably with AU plug.

Note that you cannot pair this device via Bluetooth to your phone. It only streams content from the internet or your laptop with Chrome browser.

That is you cannot turn dumb speakers into BT enabled speakers to hear the sound from your phone.

    • +2

Can't you just cast to it over wifi with any app that lets you cast from a phone?

    • Yes it doesn't do bluetooth but it does do wifi. Anything on your phone can be played to the device via wifi.

The added bonus is that you can play to multiple Chromecast audios over wifi simultaneously. Instant cheap multi-room audio.

You can also set up separate groups (eg. Upstairs/downstairs).

    • +2

Of course you can't pair it via bluetooth. It's a wifi device, not a bluetooth one.

It does a lot more than stream content from the internet or your laptop. Mine streams my 90k music library from my server to any/all room(s) in the house using plex, just like a Sonos only 1/12th of the price.

Also, if you have an android, then you can use it to hear the sound from your phone.

  • I have been running a wd live streamer for the past few years. What are the advantages to upgrading to one of these?

    • You don't need to have your TV on to use this.

  • Worth noting for some perhaps - it only streams spotify if you have a premium account.

    • +1

      Sort of…
You can stream Spotify from your desktop to Chromecast Audio. You can also click the 'Cast Screen/Audio' option in the Chromecast app on your phone, then connect it to your CCA and then play spotify.

You cannot stream directly from the Spotify app on your phone to the CCA without Spotify premium.

      • +1

As I understand it - Spotify Premium and Free for Chromecast on your TV.

Premium for Chromecast Audio. This includes your desktop.

But otherwise it should work as you say moore22 - from your phone should work.

        • +1

I use two CCAs at home, and a normal Chromecast.
From Spotify on your desktop, you just click the cast icon in chrome and all the CCAs (and the CC) show up.
I've set up a group for the CCAs and use it nightly. Can def use free tier Spotify off your desktop.

Again, you definitely CAN'T cast directly out of the Spotify app on your phone to CCAs without Premium.

        • @moore22: Can't get it to work. I am trying to cast to the CCA plugged into an separate old amplifier. No device list showing in spotify even though I can cast via chrome browser.

        • +2

          @cornbeef:

          1. open this link in your browser:
            https://play.spotify.com/browse

          2. Find and start playing the song/playlist you want

          3. Then click the cast icon in the top right of your chrome window, and cast to your CCA.

note: Make sure you have set up the CCA before trying to cast to it.

Let me know how you get on and if I can give anymore help.

Love me some spotify casting the tunes to multiroom speakers…
