Was just looking for a spare hdd and saw this. May not be the best price ever but it's the best I could find at the moment with a local pick up option. Or you can have it shipped for an additional $5.

    Easy to open?

    • Yes. It's easy to open. Just use a hammer

  • Would these drives be any good for a NAS in Raid5? Once opened up and the drive removed.

    • Wouldn't recommend this for a NAS

      • Why? They're just 7200rpm Barracudas inside.

        • Well just my personal recommendation as I would prefer using a NAS hdd for NAS but of course this is very much a viable drive to be used in a NAS set up.

        • @Hunnypooh:
I read somewhere that the 5GB are archive drives (slow); 4GB are normal drives.

        • I'm interested in the drive but don't want 7200rpm drives.
Where'd you get that info from?

        • @LoopyLou: Not entirely sure about what drives are in there honestly. I opened up my old 4TB and found a desktop HDD in it. wasn't a barracuda.

I just bought this. Good deal for local. I don’t think I’ve seen anything for under $160 so the price difference is worth it for the fast delivery and easy return.

  • I have 2 of these in my Synology from Amazon.

    My drives were , ST5000DM000-1FK178

Pretty decent price for AU stock
