      Probably when EPROMs were invented. Now it's generally just used to denote then non-volatile memory that the OS resides on.

          The introduction of the (E)PROM made it more important to differentiate them from the original ROMs.
          Sorry, misread your second part - that's mostly correct. (For the sake of my own sanity, did you actually edit the second part?)

          (Although I'm fairly sure it would say on the post if it had been edited.)

          I still think it's more likely a throwback to when phones didn't have upgradable OSs and it was fair to use the RAM/ROM descriptions.

          Obviously that's no longer the case but they continue to do so, it irks me as well!

          I did note the question mark, that's what made it conjecture. Similar to my inclusion of the word 'probably', making mine conjecture as well.

      I bought one from gearbest. Took a couple of weeks to come.
      Very happy with it. Notwithstanding the e-ink screen (the main reason I purchased it) its a surprisingly robust phone for the price. Screen is great and performance good.

        Seconded. Paid for fast(er) postage so it arrived in 10 days. Decent phone, eink is the reason to buy and it is suprisingly a well thought out process. However, eink widgets are limited to waht Yota have made eg Hangouts doesnt have a widget for the eink display. That said there are still plenty of options for widgets eg a generic notifications counter, weather etc. Battery life is good and I'm getting about 2-3 days with my typical usage (occasional browsing, hangouts), and thats with an eink display on all the time :D

        Heaps better than the Motorola X Play it replaced… that cost twice as much. Only downside is it gets insanly hot around the camera when watching videos or playing games, I assume thats whre the CPU sits.

          Yes. But you need to download yota phone flasher. See link for discussion.
          I downloaded the Android 5.0 for EU phone and installed it successfully… and with no changes to battery life (which some other earlier upgraders reported when updating their phones.
          The phone arrives with Android 4(something) with the HK version.
