    Very expensive.

    http://prepaid-data-sim-card.wikia.com/wiki/Indonesia

You can get local SIMs which have 150 minutes calls/SMS and 9.5 GB data for ~$10 or 150 minutes calls/SMS and 20.5 GB data for ~$20.

    • Thanks for commenting - was considering buying

      Hi Ronnknee,

Trying to buy a Local SIM Card in Bali - Indonesia for a traveller is very confusing if you do not know what you're looking for, we take away this confusion.

If you're on holiday the last thing you'll want to be doing is searching around small outlet stalls that vary their product range from stall to stall, you should be enjoying your holiday! (we have first hand experience of this when our Executive team was doing research in Indonesia and making partnerships)

We partner directly with the Telecom carrier and ensure that what we are getting you is the best speeds, is pre-activated and sent to your door before you depart leaving you only to have to switch your phone on and enjoy your time abroad.

      Jenny

      • I wouldn't have imagined myself agreeing with a rep, but this time I have to agree!

I am fluent in Bahasa Indonesia and figured on a recent holiday to Bali (then Java) that I'd just pick up a sim when there. I got ripped off, and to be honest still am not sure how much data/minutes/SMS' were included except that I kept adding as I went along. Every stall I went to had a different story and in the end I just went with one.

The main problem is that every provider has multiple different plans, with multiple different inclusions and none of them have an 'official' spot you can buy them from. So you're left at the mercy of whoever you buy from.

        • Huh? It's easy af. Go with the bigger providers and it's even easier. Much cheaper than this. Sure it's easy, but you're paying the extra in laziness tax.

Most guide books (heck even google) will be able to point you in the right direction

Nah, it's pretty easy. Just Go to a convenient store and ask then to do it for you. Just make sure it isn't too busy.

  • 3G or 4G? Was seperate last time I was there.

    • Hi there XeKToReX,

This Travel SIM Card uses Telkomsel 4G LTE Data Speeds, we have used it ourselves when we were in Bali and it's fast.

      • Jenny
  • Do you have deal for sim with less data? I will only be there for a week.

    • Hi there arctan!

Yes, absolutely, if you go onto our site you'll find a deal with 5Gb of loaded data for 19.90

      • Jenny
    • When you land at denpasar, get the cheapest sim card prepaid there. The money you save can pay you for 2 lunches.

Plus you can register your indo number onto uber, cheaper rides than the taxis.

    The alleged $59.95 is a huge markup. Telkomsel's 12GB promo was Rp59.000 (AU$6) going up to 32 gigs for Rp199.000 (AU$20)

When arriving in Bali there is a Telkomsel booth at International and in domestic. Domestic also has a bunch of other SIM sellers if need be. Plus you can get a SIM almost on any street in any of the Tourist locations. For those not wanting to talk to locals, you can just ask the hotel reception to get you the cards and I doubt their service charge would be anywhere near these prices.

Edit:Easiest way to avoid confusion is to buy a basic SIM and sort out the data packages using the smartphone app.

Hi there grum and thanks for your comment

We literally had our international partnerships director travel to jakarta to secure this distribution agreement with telkomsel.

While he was there he informed us that a telkomsel dealer had sold him the 5Gb SIM pack for $35 A huge markup compared to what we are offering.

Every single dealer in Indonesia offer different prices on their SIM packs and your basically at the mercy of their prices!

Dealers in Indonesia charge you that 50,000 rp for the SIM itself with loaded credit of 50,000 rp NOT 12 gb of data separately

Our method is actually the MOST simple way because we spare the confusion by pre-activating the SIM packs and shipping it internationally

Hope that gives you an understanding of why were offering that price.

Your international partnerships director isn't very good at his job if he's admitting to others that he got scammed.

All this "pre-activation" stuff is nonsense as most cards are pre-activated when purchased through 3rd parties otherwise they'll be activated on the spot by the rep.

If you get that Rp50,000 card as you say, you'd use the app to choose your data add-ons, top up credit through the app or through the local convenience store and you're done. No scams and no confusion. Exactly like Australian SIM cards.

(Rp50,000 for the SIM + Rp59,000 for 12 gigs data = AU$11 for those playing at home)

The listed price is a total rip off. I am from indonesia. i suggest you buy it at indonesia locally.
Even if you got rip off locally, it is still cheaper than this listed price.

    • Thanks for that.
BTW do you know the "real" non tourist, Indonesian price for a deal like this?

      • +1

i havent been living in indonesia for ages.. usually travel there to visit family once a year.

        what i did is :
        1) buy the NEW prepaid number from any store that sell it (i usually hunt for anything less than $5)
usually you will get some bonus credit depending on which carrier you are using… i usually hunt for either TELKOMSEL or XL service provider.

(even if i got rip off, at least it saved me time hunting for cheap ones, and if i make a lost, it wont be more than $5 [coz i am looking to purchase a new number that cost me below that]

NOTE : refer to the paper pack for certain code to check balance and purchased content pack such as XX Gb data pack….
if it is not available in english, i would suggest to ask help from admin staff at hotel customer service desk. It saves you time and trouble…

        2) to refill the credit… go to any INDOMARET convinience store (a local version of 7-11)

Go to bali, go to a telcomsel shop, pay $20 and you have enough credit for approximately a month.

  • Indo sims being sold at Oz telco prices, it doesn't compute.
Any hotel concierge worth their salt should be able to help you out, even if they hiked the price.
    Its Bali, not Timbuktu.

  • +2

As an Indonesian, I have to disagree with this price, I still have my indonesian number with me in Sydney and I can still top up online through their site or through the app, 12 bucks can get you 10gb of 4G data.

Best method for tourists is to buy locally through the booth or convenience store (ask for Telkomsel, XL or Indosat) <- the big 3 providers, they will have great coverage and then top up through the app.

    • care to advise, which provider do you use? i am sick of buying prepaid with new number everytime i go to indonesia

      • +1

I had all 3 before. I use telkomsel simpati and downloaded the my telkomsel app. You can top up using debit/credit card to extend the expiry of my number and just transfer the credit to my brother who's back in Indonesia :)

        • thank you.. very good info..

Best prices for new Telkomsel SIM in Bali can be found at their official shopfronts (not partner/re-seller stores). Scroll down to item 68 & 69 at http://www.telkomsel.com/customer-service/lokasi-layanan/370…. Other locations throughout Indonesia can be found in that list.

Bought two sims for Rp.5,000 each (AUD 0.50) Kartu As Perdana at the official store on the 2nd floor of Mall Galeria January 2016. Perdana means new/starter sims. Not sure if that promotion is still running, but they'll probably have other similar promotions, just look around the shopfront for banners with PERDANA written on them. Most important, at least for me, was that I was not paying 10x to 20x markups at re-sellers.

They'll also explain the best prepaid plan for your period of stay, and you can purchase the exact credit amount required at face value without paying for additional credit that you won't use.

@Mods, with all the international travel deals posted in OzB, perhaps a wiki should be started for obtaining local SIMs at each country?
