  • Extremely expensive for a rice cooker.. but regardless, it is cheaper on ricecookerworld's ebay store

  • Lol.. cheaper elsewhere

      not very rice of you

  • People in Japan do not buy Tiger brand. It is for oversea only.

What's so special about this for $550+ , really puzzled

    • +2

Wrong, Tiger has local Japanese models which are to be sold in Japan only and do not have English instruction whatsoever. These models are highly customised for the Japan market.

This model is for export although they are still made in Japan so the quality is unbeatable.

Just to be clear, I am not saying this deal is good but the quality of the good is excellent if anyone wants to buy one (not from his rip off store)

  • Probably posted in the wrong forum…here's ozbargain…not ozripoff…

  • I am actually curious if anyone has one of these compared to a normal rice cooker to explain the benefits of this.

I have both a cheap kambrook one from bigw and a tiger made in Japan. If you are serious about rice, you will see the difference in the quality of the cooked rice. The rice is softer, more consistent due to better heat distribution. Also, keep warm function on the Tiger can keep the rice going strong for 2 days without hardening the rice whereas the cheap one can dry the rice just after 1 night, making them inedible. The Tiger can also cook portridge and can be used as a steamer

Also the Kambrook one died after 3months while the Tiger is still going strong for 5 years and counting. My parents got one 10 years ago and it is still going strong.

Again, look elsewhere for a cheaper price but Made in Japan rice cooker is a must if you care about the quality of the rice and the longevity of the cooker.

Where can I buy Tiger rice ?

Tiger rice cookers are the Ferraris of rice cookers. Any Asian household will have one of these. They are great.

Bought this from Good Guys for $64 ($89 - $25 voucher)

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/panasonic-5-cup-rice-cooker-s…

Does the same thing, ie. cook rice, for a fraction of the price

Yep, would recommend a Panasonic rice cooker if Tiger is out of your price range. A decent rice cooker will cook your rice to an above standard quality in around 20 minutes. There are plenty of cheaper Tiger rice cookers out there, but most are still more expensive than Panasonic. Conversely, if you aren't fussy about your rice quality or cooking time, just buy a $20 rice cooker and replace it when it breaks.

  • cheaper elsewhere

  • Apparently the taste of rice is different with higher end of rice cooker. I saw Panasonic rice cooker for similar price as well from Asian grocery stores.
I am also keen to learn the difference between the rice cookers. Is there a review website for them?

I'd buy Korean rice cookers, much better and more reliable IMHO.

    • you must be Korean I gather?

      • Bingo~ :)

        • +1

          I'd buy Japan made …. but I am not Japanese … :p

I bought a cuckoo rice cooker from Ebay previously. Amazing price and delivery via DHL. About $250 i think. They emailed me an english manual as the device comes from Korea.

Bought a second one since it worked so well.

      • so you can cook twice as much rice simultaneously?

        • Two should cook faster …. :p

        • No, a gift

  • R u serious?!
I'd spend the money on better quality rice!

Hold on, just because this is expensive it doesn't necessarily mean it is not a bargain. Neg if it isn't a deal otherwise I could neg anything that I can get cheaper such as a vacuum cleaner or whatever.

    • Its not a bargain though, the same model is cheaper elsewhere as linked/mentioned in comments

      • I realise that :) as I said, neg if itsn't a deal. I was getting the impression from the shock price of the rice cooker that people are negging as there are cheaper ones. I am just saying that..thats all.

People have to comment and give reasons to downvote. So if you have a problem with any of the specific reasons the downvote is given then you can report them.

        • +2

So you had a rant instead of seeing the reasons given in each negative as well as the links to the same product cheaper elsewhere?
Little tip for the future. Read the comments. :)
