It used to be $0.72 when I bought a couple months before

Inflation and currency exchange rate may be possible factors contributing to price increase

Thanks for letting us know lol

I have the plate and bowl, can confirm excellent quality - easily on par with Corelle

That's very good to hear. I bought a couple of sets of plain white Corelle from BigW for about $32 a set when I first moved out of home. They were only intended as a 'starter' set however over 20 years later they're still going strong! Tough, lightweight and can be used in anything. They have a few scratches on them now but still come out of the dishwasher pristine glossy white every time. I recently heard that the newer Corelle product isn't as good so I hope the IKEA stuff is like the older Corelle and if so I very highly recommend these. Not as 'classic' as a standard dinner plate but exceeds in every other way.

      what is stopping you?

Can't fit a bowl in his pocket.

        • +3

is that a bowl in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

        • @inferno: Por que no los dos?

        • @Forfiet: Why on earth did this get downvotes? I guess people feel strongly about old elpaso

          @simulacrum: too spicy apparently :P

    • No, but might do nicely as a cricket box.

These are my favourite bowls and plates, really thin, kinda small, but somehow perfect..

Much love! (But have been 89c all year I believe)

I didn't know about these until mentioned by myisk

Going to buy 30 on the weekend

  • Is tempered glass stronger than ceramic?

    • -3

I feel like they would break pretty easy, if you're not careful.

    • Depends on what you're doing with them. My kids (no, not me, definitely not me) drop dishes fairly often and these seem to bounce, even on a concrete floor with vinyl flooring (so pretty unforgiving).

    • more resistant to chipping but when tempered glass fails it can fail spectacularly. i had a dish explode once luckily it was in the cupboard at the time.

it was arcoroc brand also made in france.

        . i had a dish explode once

ISIS would be interested in this dish technology

        • mobile phone (as shown in GTA V)

I wonder if Samsung note screens were made in France…

        • all toughened/tempered glass products can explode. gorilla glass is made by corning the makers of corelle. no idea if their products are still made in the usa.

    • According to Wikipedia, Corelle is "made of Vitrelle, a tempered glass product consisting of two types of glass laminated into three layers."
I've had Corelle for years and am very pleased with their durability.

However, they are more likely to break if they are cold (e.g. just come out of the freezer or fridge) or warm/hot.
They can shatter into shards of glass (ie sharp and dangerous) if dropped onto a hard surface.

Thanks OP for the post - I will buy and try.

  • very good quality for the price, also washed out very well in dishwasher too

  • Don't see where the bargain is when that is the regular price for the corelle

And this one is a bargain? :p

Well not sure if it should be classified as a bargain but looks good to me actually :)

  • 85c in Adelaide store

I got couple of these for 80c each several months before.

So price actually increased and Australia dollar stronger than the time I bought as well.

      hardly understand.

  • We bought a bunch of these. They're really good, light, look nice too, however I did notice that they seem to stain a little, so make sure you wash them. They're quite thin, so expect to break a few over time.

    • Yes the plates can get stained if you let food or sauce dry on them for too long and sometimes even dishwasher can't wash off those stubborn stains. But giving them a scrub using a dish scourer should get the stain off.

I think this is the normal price, but think we need more posts like this.

$0.85 at Ikea Perth and Adelaide.

Most items are more expensive at these two stores, this time we have a winner.

  • Apparently you get a free lunch and drink from doing a survey in store.

    • +1

      You're joking

      • +1

Nope but not sure if limited to Canberra. You do a quick survey on an iPad and then you get a free meal voucher valid for 6 months

  • My wife bought 10 plates a few weeks ago.

    • We bought 120…

      • You own a restaurant?

        • Nah, they're probably just Brodens

        • We have BBQs with a lot of people over some times. The old plates we had take up a lot of room, so we bought 40 dinner plates, 40 salad plates and 40 smalls bowls. The idea was 30 + 10 spare! :)

  • I've used one of these bowls for about 8 months. Very similar to Corelle but corelle are lighter. But for 85c it craps all over the heavy plates you get from Kmart

  • Are these microwave safe?

    • +1

Yes, checked today instore. Dishwasher safe too

      • Cheers
