The same as buying a $1 USB cable that barely charges your phone and stops working after 2 weeks vs a proper quality one that charges your phone quickly and lasts for years.
The one from Kmart has no power at all and dies after a few uses. I bake a lot and have killed 3 of the Kmart ones making cheesecake. This is actually a really good price for something that will last you the distance.
What about the KitchenAid vs the Kambrook $30 from TGG?
I think this is one of the best hand mixer around , great warranty and beautiful design and not to mention kitchenaid is one of the more prestigious brand.

Bought for my wife for xmas. Thanks OP!!! She loves her big kitchen-aid bowl mixer but this will compliment it nicely for smaller duties and enable her to make MORE DELICIOUS CAKE!! :D There is method to my ozbargaining madness ;)
We've had a few cheap hand beaters in the past simply burn out and die very quickly. Cheap crap!
Whats the difference between this one and the $15 one from kmart? All I can see extra is the dough hooks.
