MacBook 12" in Silver/Gold 1.2GHz 512GB/8GB for $1500 C&C or $5.95 Delivery @ Officeworks

430

This is the 2015 model Macbook 12" in Gold/Silver with 512gb of flash storage and 8gb of ram.

Available in Silver or Gold but sold out in Space Grey unfortunately.

Limit 3 per customer.

  • 12" 2304 x 1140 Retina
  • 8GB RAM
  • 512GB SSD
  • 0.92kg
  • 9 Hours battery

I found the new Apple announcement earlier today a bit underwhelming and considering the 2016 model is still $2295, this is a considerable saving :)

Cheers to Scotty for the write up

a limit of 3 per customer? Dang, I was going to buy like 500 :(

    • +2

Haha an apple a day keeps the doctor away ;)

    • Probably to stop hidden commercial buys, like with car specials 'excludes fleet purchases'. :P

  • +6

Man their reveal today…what a shame. Seriously out of all the things they could have done they added a useless touch bar(??) god damn. Oh and change a perfectly fine keyboard to the one the 12" has???? Why????

    • +10

Yeah it was god awful. I was hoping to finally upgrade my Macbook Pro from a few years ago but its just not worth it. The base model with the touch bar is $2.5k! Thats shameful for a 13" with no dedicated graphics :P

      • +1

That God-awful keyboard just feels like pressing door buzzers..

        • +3

Yeah I'm not convinced with their idea of making it thinner anymore at the cost of a decent keyboard and reduction in size of battery. I think most people wouldn't complain if it was a few mm thicker but had a few extra hours battery life after all…

    • +5

There pricing is getting way ridiculous! I bought the macbook pro 15 with upgraded ram and processor and top gpu for under $2500! And now there new stuff is costing $2999 with intel graphic card :!

      • +1

Yeah I don't think our exchange rate has changed much recently either. Must be paying for that touch bar with a retina display. I am just imagining the fingerprints already…

        • +3

Real thieves! At that price we can get top of the line gaming laptop with quad corr i7 and gtx 1070 or even 1080. Thickness and macOS is not worth that big price difference to me.

        • @Bnjam3: Yeah I struggle to see their target audience. Removing functions keys is hardly innovative, then again they refuse to put in a touch screen or put dedicated graphics in the 13" which is really annoying..

        • @Bnjam3: I got a Metabox for 1/2 the price of the mid range Macbook Pro with probably similar or better specs.

    • +3

Not to mention how they've replaced all the ports with usb c, so now you can't connect your iphone directly without a dongle or your lightning headphone in at all. Isn't this sort of the main appeal with apple products? how they sort of all just work together. Replacing all the ports with usb c would've made more sense if the iphone (and the rest of their lineup) used usb c. I guess apple wasn't courageous enough to remove the headphone jack on the macbook as well

      • Simply shitful.

There is a crazy price on eBay for $670. But I doubt it will be true.

    • +1

The level of feedback makes me sceptical. I have been burnt too many times on eBay buying cheap Apple devices…

    • +7

Why even post that, it is clearly a scam?

      PLEASE no one buy these.

  • Decent price for an Apple product, but still overpriced for what you are getting. That said, I think I would prefer using this model than that disappointing machine that was announced today…

    • Too true, would cost you an extra $1000 ($2.5k) for a 13" Pro and thats only with 256gb storage…

  • $1829 for a refurbished one from Apple.
    http://www.apple.com/au/shop/product/FK4N2X/A/refurbished-12…

Why is the Officeworks price so cheap?

    • On clearance from Officeworks and it is the 2015 model. The 2016 model has slightly upgraded specs but is nothing major.

      • +1

Do you reckon the macbook airs will drop in price after being discontinued?
Wanted a cheap mac for the missus.

        • +1

Macbook Air 13" was recently $999 but that was Kogan International stock.

I would expect price drops but I would go Macbook over it anyday. The displays on these MacBooks are amazing and speakers are really loud.

        • +1

@ShamelessBargains: I've never used one properly but the scissor keys put me off ever using one as my main machine.
I had a macbook air for years and it was great.

I'll see if the missus wants to get one tonight. :)

        • @irishjoe: yeah I recommend even comparing them in-store if you have the time.

There are a few stores still offering click and collect too :)

        • +2

Just realised only 11" Macbook Air has been discontinued, 13" still available on the store.

    • Apple doesn't care

      • +3

Too true, they are more concerned about creating fruit salads on the function keys :P

  • +1

Honestly just get a XPS 13

Dell? God no. Surface or Mac. Nothing else.

      • What's wrong with Dell XPS? Customer Service?

The price for the Surface Book isn't the best out there as well.

        • -2

I like hardware made by the same people who write the software.

What do you think MS is going to test more? Their own Surface products, or the gizzlion other combinations of components?

        • +1

I went through a couple of the xps 15s with a 4k screen, the firmware was just half baked which is ridiculous for a product thats nearly a year old.

        • @Stefce:

          Perfect example.

        • @Stefce: I have the XPS twin brother precision 5510 with 4k screen, its a beautiful machine but I do not have any bluetooth connection and the WIFI connection is not stable.

        • @Stefce: what were the issues if you don't mind sharing?

        • +1

          @PainToad:

Mate their surfaces still suffer from battery issues and sleep mode. Let's not go there. Dell had much better quality controls.

The xps is also awesome. Get the 16gb version. So small and compact and enough connectors on the thick end of the wedge.

It's that or the zen book 3 for me.

        • XPS has pretty inconsistent QC, however with a model with no defects, it's still a solid option

    • When you see your colleague in Canberra buying one of these, you have the right to throw a Turnball at them. But beware, they may come back to bite in the polls…

  • I had one for 5 months when they first came out, my first MacBook/imac that i had beach balling with, if you are after a iPad to a MacBook replacement i would recommend.

    • includes escape key
    • unlike the new macbook pros? :D ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaa

    I hate you,I hate you,I bought one

    • +1

Just remember you saved $795 off the original RRP :)

  • isn't this $1599 on the apple website? http://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/macbook/rose-gold-512gb

  • Two caveats. Single USB Type-C port and slow CPU.

  • Out of Stock for all colours.

    • Thanks for the update :)

      • Still shows as available to click and collect for me.

Just tried adding one of each to my cart and started the payment process, I went as far as it would go before entering my credit card or paypal details.

Personally, I found the 2015 models to be slow and laggy whenever I'd try one, but all the 2016 models have been much better.

Maybe they're faster now due to updates from the newer macOS on 2016 models, I don't know. I only know I couldn't justify spending $1000 on the 2015 models, whereas I've been watching the 2016 models closely for any deals at around $1500.

    • Was definitely out of stock for me before, but now showing as back in stock and available for click and collect at your local Officeworks.
This is for Silver and Gold - both CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FOR ONLINE ORDER
      Have ordered the Silver.

But on checking tonight, price has INCREASED TO $1,697

      • Yeah I spent hours researching and deciding and just when I wanted it… sold out in all forms and price increased to $1697 anyhow. It makes the new Pro more attractive, which is their cunning plan, I guess.

  • +1

Just bought a gold from fyshwick, Canberra. The bloke said he had both gold and silver. Didn't enquire to how many though

  • Damn. Too late for me

  • Fyi, Silver is still available on Officeworks for click and collect along with being available for delivery. Gold is definitely sold out though

  • Ordered for $1697 512gb. Money debited but no confirmation email. Sigh

  • Once it is listed as Out of Stock Online, is there any chance that it will ever come back briefly?

    • Your chances are pretty slim. The space grey 512gb has been out of stock for ages :(

      • :( Ok. I have near-buyer's remorse. I went as far as nearly clicking on the BUY button and then stopped. It was such a cheap deal for this model - in hindsight. I might have to fork out for the new MacBook Pro now. The Dell XPS 13 screen ratio and coil whine risk just doesn't do it for me.
