I have had both the 11" and 13" Macbook Air and found the size of the 13" to be optimal.

Found this in a previous deal regarding a phone over $1000 which came under $1000 after discount.

Comparing to ThinkPad 13, ThinkPad has better/newer CPU (i5 Skylake), higher resolution screen (1080P), more storage (256GB). MacBook Air however is slightly lighter, has longer battery life and possibly better screen (brighter, better colour).
And OS X.
I used to be a spec whore, now I just buy what Apple tells me to.
I used to look up terms like "Think Different" and now I just do whatever Siri tells me…

if you're looking at the same spec the build on the Apple will be better owing to the fact that Apple only refresh laptop designs every 5 years or so selling huge quantities of each allowing for basically unmatched r&d. Usually you will get much better spec for the same money with a windows laptop, but if it's the same spec go with the apple machine
I have this macbook and my wife as the zenbook. For the same price she has an i7 vs my i5. double the SSD and dedicated graphics card. I have actually grown to really like MacOS but windows 10 really isnt that bad.
If you had to choose, wouldn't you go with the i7, double the SSD and better GPU?
Depends on which Zenbook. UX303 compares half way between a Macbook Air and Macbook Pro in size, but with better specs and a discrete Graphics card for cheaper price. The UX305 compares about half way between the Macbook 12" and Macbook Air in size and thinness but with arguably better specs for cheaper. Zenbooks are upgradable at least in the SSD, but the UX303 can also go up to 12GB of RAM.
i have macbook air 13" leaves my windows laptops for dead in term of battery life, heat, etc. and apple just upgrade the OS for free ….. none of this key activation crap.
I still have a windows laptop ($550 acer I5) but only for office 20143 and visio …. everything else I don the macbook air …..
Are the SSD's in these user replaceable? 128GB probably won't go too far. Otherwise it's a great deal.

Everything I see says it's when the 'value' is more than $1,000. To me, the 'value' is what you pay, not what the advertised price is, but I'm an economist, not a lawyer.

They don't have any 13" 128gb models listed on either DS or Kogan websites. Only the 256gb which is $1650..

My Mid 2011 specced out MBA11 is still going strong. It'll be due for a new battery soon though.
My sons is a 2012. Battery has been replaced.
Keyboard was replaced start of last year, Right hand shift key stopped working this year, as well as audio jack now not working.
I just need it to last till end of year when school stops.
same here mine is I5 with 4GB ram and 128GB storage, but yeah, battery is running dry earlier than it used to.

My 13" Macbook Air (mid 2012) is still going super strong with constant daily use, even the battery is pretty good. I'd love to buy a new one, but I can't justify it yet!

Also have a mid 2012 AIr, and the battery has seen better days.
Purchased compatible battery on ebay for $60-70 and P5 screwdriver for $5. After that it's a very simlple task to remove the bottom lid, and swap the battery.
Best ultrabook for that price and performance you can buy, if you can bear the 128gb storage.
Yeah I agree, 128gb isn't ideal but there are cheap cloud storage options :)
If you are happy to pay for iCloud storage, then macOS's latest release has built in support for dynamically moving files off the system into the cloud and back to help conserve local space. Might help those starved for space who have access to solid internet connections.

There were a lot of rumours circulating of a larger upgrade being announced later this year, possibly around October, to the lineup. Might be worth seeing if that eventuates if you can hold out.

I had the same question originally but I figured it out recently.
The MMGF2 model which is this deal is the 13" with 8gb of ram.
The MJVE2 model is the older 13" model with 4gb of ram. Don't buy that one!

Is the MMGF2 model the 2016 model and the MJVE2 the 2015? Not much shows up on Google in regards to the former.
MJVE2 is a discontinued model, probably why it's hard to find any info on it.

My MacBook from 5 years ago still going strong
Brought the macbook air 11 inch about 2-3 years ago from Kogan, when they had it for $700. Best thing I ever did, small, light, quick! was very happy with the purchase from Kogan. I'm sure many people are fine with Kogan, but if you're a bit hesitant, well my personal experience i had no issues.
The only thing is (and to be honest everyone always says one or the other) if it stuffs up, apple won't fix it under warranty (or something along those lines) as it is an import. In saying that some people have gotten theirs fixed no issues, and others have said apple won't do it. So not sure which one it is, thankfully mine is a few years old and never had any issues. Fingers crossed it stays that way!

Rumoured update will have a significant price increase. I reckon you will be looking at around $1500 for a 13" upgraded air. Depends whether you need it now or whether you can wait. Was meant to be a MacBook Pro update last year but still waiting…

The rumors from the bloomberg article suggest the update will be a usb c port. It doesn't talk about anything else. I am not ready to move to usb c yet. None of my things have usb c.

Hi Ozbargainers I need some advice here. I am interested in switching over to the Mac Eco system. I currently have a windows laptop and an android device. would getting this Macbook for $999.20 and Iphone 7 for $982.40 from this deal be a good idea/deal. Any ideas or opinions are most welcome. Are these two devices highly compatible? I have had issues in the past with Bluetooth connectivity between my iPad and iPod.

This deal (Macbook) is worth getting but iPhones are almost always a ripoff. Do not bother getting an iPhone 7. Other Andrid phones which are pretty damn good are much cheaper and far better.
For just the regular email, web and music/video user Macbook Air are better than anything I have used.
The track pad and gestures are awesome and easy to use. Battery life is the best.
I also have a Macbook pro 15" for app development but it is just too big to carry around with you (nice big retina display).
I also got a Surface Pro 4 which I thought would be a Macbook Air killer.
SP4 is a nice device but too many bugs when originally release.
Very poor battery life, advertised as 9 hours but in reality only get 5 to 6 hours (when watching mkv video file). But this is due to the 2736 x 1824 screen resolution.
Never really use it as a tablet or the touchscreen when keyboard is attached.
Can't rest on lap as comfortable as a regular laptop.
All day I use a Windows PC for work with windows 10 which is good.
But at home a Macbook air is light easy to use where ever you are. Take it on the road. And you really get all day battery life.

Get an iPhone 6s or SE. Both have the same processor and same great camera. Can pick them up significantly cheaper than the 7 and they are both great devices. Just depends on the screen size you want.
i have both windows and android and OS X and iPads and used to have iPhone …… the mac book with an iPhone is a nicer ecosystem if you just like to use stuff instead of timker with stuff…. and apple are good with software upgrades so you will get them for a long time on both the mac and phone so you get to enjoy the advances on both devices without having to buy new hardware.
I know that one founder gave away his wealth while the other apparently couldn't find a cause worthy of his money. Must not have been looking too hard.
However, Apple OS is likely infinitely more reliable than Windows in any guise. Apple phones are fairly spasmodic, or at least the updates were in my experience, but they would be doing well if the functioning of their computer OS was even less consistent than Windows.
Apple also offers a slightly simpler purchasing environment which, given the overabundance of choice of manufacture and product and attendant anxiety the modern world foists upon the consumer, makes peace of mind post-purchase more attainable.

Yes no TRS unfortunately. Product will have a 1 year Apple warranty though.

I might be better off buying locally with a 10% off sale, then collect TRS when I travel in Oct then.

@unity1: yep 1 year apple warranty. If you buy AU stock, you get 3 years under consumer law. Personally I have never had a problem with any of my macs but I guess it depends on the user :)
its's 12 mths for MacBooks according to apple web site and 3 years with applecare which costs extra ……
not sure where these mthyical consumer laws come from ……. there is no consumer law that says laptops get 3 year warranties …..
Phone batteries were a sticking point as they deemed reasonable use and many are non removal / user replaceable hence some phones are 2 years.
These will probably come with a travel adapter ….. apple shops sell the AU cable or you can get them on eBay ($7-$12) ….. I have several types from my travel days and dislike of using adapter.

Ok so about the warranty thing, someone I know works for apple service department here in Sydney. I asked him it was okay to buy the international version of mac since it is on huge discount. He said Apple will cover it under warranty but only for 1 year. whereas if you buy the local version it is covered for three years. Even though it is a good bargain I think I will pass.
If you've got a credit card that has warranty extension for purchases, you could have a longer warranty. I bought the Macbook Air from this deal earlier today using my Amex Platinum Edge card. Has got Buyers Advantage which gives a complimentary extended 1 year from the end date of Apple's 1 year warranty. So 2 years warranty in total.
