MacBook Air 13" 8GB/128GB for $999.20 Delivered @ Dick Smith / Kogan eBay

1280
CUT20

11:40 Update: $1 price drop. Now down to $999.20. Thanks to unity1

Hi guys, thought this was a great price for a 13" Macbook Air with 8gb of ram and a 128gb SSD.

I have had both the 11" and 13" Macbook Air and found the size of the 13" to be optimal.

The 8gb of ram will make it fly for the next few years too :)

Don't forget Cashback from your favourite provider :)

After adjusting the AUD-to-USD depreciation, this is even cheaper than the legendary deal from 2014, which was at $750 for the 13" base model (and this one has 8GB RAM vs 4).

    • Wow that's crazy. I actually got an 11" air in that deal. Was a great laptop but I missed the 13" real estate so went back haha

      • I also got the 11". $500 was amazing. I am tempted to upgrade to the bigger screen… Must resist!

    • My mistake. Just checked my email and it was actually $875x80%=$700, with $17.50 CR made it $682.50.

  • Trying to work out if it's best to buy this for my son as a byod device for year 7 next year or wait till the school releases their preferred suppliers list in November.

MacBook air should last him till uni .. providing he doesn't drop it and you replace the battery after four years ^.^

      • That's wishful thinking. My wife's was working perfectly fine (with strong battery) for a little over 4 years.

Then it refused to start and just beeps 3 times - RAM error. With the RAM soldered onto the mainboard that means it now is a paperweight. Apple quoted >$700 to repair.

Bought one thanks. Was thinking about it all day, too good of a deal to resist. Now have to explain it to my wife!

    • Early Christmas present? Less than 100 days to go now!

Enjoy your new laptop too :)

    • +3

Buy her one too then there won't be any explaining to do.

  • My HP DV5 purchased more than 5 years ago still going strong.. Just sayin

    • Nice man. But this is a deal on macbooks.

    • +1

and my iMac 2006 and iMac 2007 purchased more than 9-10 years ago are still going strong….Just saying…

  • What's the power adapter look like? Can anyone guarantee this is Apple warranty and you can rock into a store and get it fixed?

  • +1

Excuse my ignorance (first time user of the site) but I gather the use of the coupon code brings the price down from $1,248.99 when entered?

    • Yep takes 20% off the listed price bringing it down to $999.20. Just enter the code CUT20 in the checkout section under promotional code :)

In the Tech Specs, it says RAM: EG 4GB DDR3 1333 under Performance. So is this actually a 4gb model? Not sure why that is different to the 'Storage -> Card Slots' value. And is tax calculated off the discounted price, or the original? Thanks, looks like a good deal!

    • Must just be a spelling mistake. The MMGF2 model just came out in June 2016 and includes 8gb ram.

There is no tax as the Macbook is imported direct from Hong Kong.

      Hope this helps :)

      • Sorry, by tax I meant the import duty. Would this be considered as over $1000 or under? Thanks (new to online buying)

        • +1

Under the duty. Comes to $999.20 and Kogan will print on the box the discounted price you actually paid.

  • 1440x900… welcome to 2006. Why have 4k when you can have 1k lol.

    • Better battery life. If you want a 4K screen on a 13" laptop, then don't take it off the charger much..

  • Thanks OP/Ebay! Just grabbed one myself and the deal is 94% sold… You'd expect it to be sold out by tomorrow morning surely!

    • Wow it's been very popular! I reckon it will be sold out by tonight :)

      Enjoy your new mac too!

Was sold out at 3pm this afternoon :)

  • Can i run windows on this? i've been out of the OS loop for a while :(

its so cheap i might buy it anyway

    Back in stock guys

    • Thanks I was kicking myself for missing out and thought I'd check again. This week has been an expensive one to save money.

    • Thanks got one. I actually asked DS through ebay if they're getting more stock in before the promo finishes tonight and I was told they won't be. Thanks for the heads up!

    • Thanks for the update :)

Received mine in Perth this morning too! It was much quicker than the ETA given (10-13Oct). Setting it up right now.

    • That's great news, just in time for the long weekend!

    • When did you order? I haven't got any shipping info yet

      • +1

Ordered mine on 22/9 when the offer was first posted by OP, and took just about over a week in all. Mind you, I placed my order on 22/9, did not receive any news until the 28/9 where I got an email from both Dick Smith and eBay that my item as been shipped. They would then provide you with a shipment tracking number. Once it was shipped, I received my Macbook Air within 3 working days. Hope this helps you.

        • Cheers almonds65

Thanks OP. Mine was delivered yesterday to my workplace. Yet to pick it up.

    • That's good, seems their shipping times have improved a lot :)

      • Very impressed. But I placed 2 orders. The other one has yet to ship.

Got mine today as well. No duties or anything. Pretty impressed. Thanks again OP

  • cheers op, got mine yesterday :)

  • They sent me a generic USB wall charger. Not really going to do much good.

  • Can I just get a replacement AC adapter with AU plug like this? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/45W-Magsafe2-T-Adapter-Charger-Po…

Or is that not how electronics work (different voltages and that kind of thing)?

    • That should be fine, otherwise something like this http://shop.davidjones.com.au/djs/ProductDisplay?catalogId=1…

    • +1

If you have any other Apple products then maybe try this and click on the link "Request a replacement via the Web"

      https://www.apple.com/au/support/ac-wallplug-adapter/

There has been a recall on the Apple AC Wall Plug Adapter from 2003 to 2015.

So if you have any apple devices and want to be safe then request a replacement.

I was even able to submit a request for my iPhone 6s which doesn't even use that type of power adapter.

Now I am just waiting to see how many I get delivered.

      • Using the 'web option' and providing my serial led to it saying that my product is not part of the replacement program.

        • Did you purchase the product between 2003 and 2015?

      • Thanks fo this. I ordered two and got two. So we have to send the old ones back to Apple?

        • I didn't. Not sure what they are going to do. I just threw the old ones in the bin. I kept one just in case I need it in the future.

I think the idea will be to return them so they can be destroyed and not pose an issue in the future.

If it was a Samsung Note 7 I would post it back. But its just a power adapter.

  • Ordered on the 26th and still waiting for mine :'(

    • +1

Wew got an email that my macbook has been dispatched via toll global express.

  • so what adapter is everyone using? :o

    • Received mine yesterday, I've been using my previous MacBook's AC adapter although Kogan/dicksmith did send me adapter with AU plug

  • Received mine today. pretty quick delivery. love the machine so far.

  • Received mine but it was packaged in only in a small amount of bubble wrap and plastic.
Box is significantly dented and there's a hole on the side where the adapter was pressed against it?
Did anyone else have the same issue?

    • My first one arrived without any bubble wrap. The adapter was wrapped in several layers of bubble wrap.

I ordered 2 macbooks. One was a Malaysian model, the other was a USA model.

      • Is there any difference between the two models?

        • Haven't opened the second one yet as it's for someone else. Spec wise there is no difference, other than the plug in the box.
