Great deal. The tablet is pretty awesome.

Good price but waiting on the updated 2016 model

if youre wondering why this can drop price its because its not a huge improvement over the previous, hence the update model needed.

From the rumors, it doesn't sound like the Tab S3 would be much of an upgrade either. The original Tab S was excellent and to be honest, I'd rather that than the S2.

      • +1

I thought that too until I actually got the S2 as couldnt wait any further. Turns out the Tab S2 is definitely the best tablet I have ever owned especially with the keyboard cover. The only thing the Tab S has it better is the 16:9 ratio for playing back videos and hooking up to external screens/projectors. Otherwise the S2 stomps all over it in specs and speeds.

        • Taking the cost into account and my preference for the 16:9 ratio (not many out there nowadays), the original Tab S suits my needs more. I do like the metal of the S2 over the faux leather plasticy thing on the S.

        • @phxsun:

The s2 has barely lagged once since I got it a year ago. The performance has been flawless (not a heavy gamer).

The screen of the original is better but I do prefer the s2 screen aspect ratio.

    • BTW.. this is the updated 2016 model of the "Tab S2" from the description (T713 Snapdragon vs the original T710 Exynos). The performance is apparently slightly better on the T713 but not by much as it is the newer mid-level chip versus the older but top end Exynos.

  • is this better than the Z3 tablet compact?

    • +2

I got the 16gb z3 from a recent deal. Performance and screen are good but you can't format an sd as internal memory so you have to keep manually transferring apps and data. I keep running out of internal storage and it's a real pain. I'm thinking about this just to get the additional 16gb memory.

Op, did you see a similar deal for the 9.7?

      • +1

I got the z3 as well. I mainly use mine for streaming media so the 16gb is fine for me. Did a quick google and the S2 was released the year after the z3 and other than poor speakers, sounds better than the z3!!!

      • +2

Nothing too special on the 9.7 atm…most likely Christmas then? :)

      • Should be able to upgrade the Z3 compact to Android 6.0 now (actually I think there's a Nougat version around) which would enable you to use the microsd as internal storage. Checked XDA website?

        • +2

Only to Marshmallow. No Nougat for the Z3 tablet compact. There's been conflicting views on whether you can use microSD as internal storage with the Sony's. It "appears" to work but upon closer inspection, it doesn't fully transfer the app to microSD.

        • Am running 6. There is no option to format an sd as internal memory.

      • Even manually transferring doesn't work on the Z3.

    • Yes. It is. Its also a year younger and should see a release of Nougat before it reaches EOL. The Z3 Tab Compact will only stay on Marshmallow by the looks of things.

  • Thanks

    What the warranty for this?

    • Like anything purchased from Amazon. 1 yr return to seller warranty.

  • Great price .. does sammy australia support this?

    • Ask those trying to get a Note 7 refund? NO. Grey import.

      • What have those people said?

      • I thought samsung will replace all notes even, regardless where you bought. It is serious issue they can't refuse to refund. Samsung declared to be fully responsible.

        • Yeah, their page specifically mentions phones purchased from eBay, Kogan, even Gumtree. Refund plus a bonus $250, or swap for an S7 Edge plus $350, or S7 and $450.

        • +1

@eug: Sounds like a pretty good deal if you managed to snag a grey import. If they give you S7 AU stock with $450.

Or if you preordered and kept their 256GB SD card.

finally tablet with 3GB ram not 1GB.
yeah as owner of phone with 5.7" screen, i think 8" is not significantly bigger so i would like to have 9.7" instead.

      thats what she said….

      • Some prefer techniques

        • that's what i keep telling myself :)

        • @scud70: you should share that techniques with friends…

i have a 5.9" LG G pro 2 and ive used this tablet.. its huge and better in every way.. apart from being too big to fit in your pocket and much heavier :) then the G Pro 2.. probably the best tablet i've ever used to date. 10" tablets are too big if you ask me

    Great tablet

  • I got 1st gen Tab S 8.0 and it is very good - the size and weight / display. Only annoying thing is battery starts to die after 1 year and tab stopped working even if shows 45% battery left.

    • -1

Only annoying thing is battery starts to die

I'd rather have the battery die than <insert Note 7 joke here>

    • Tab S 8.0

No such thing. There is however the Tab S 8.4.

  • RAM Memory

    Really amazon?

  • Great, I need something to replace this cash, burning a hole in my pocket

  • I got one of these, and I like it. Managing to help me survive with an S4 after the failure of the N7.

    a great price.

  • What a great find! I'm a first timer to buy on Amazon.
When I put my address in and it indicated that it won't ship to my address.
Is it a step or something I missed?
    Any suggestions?

    • Is it AU address? Can only suggest to try mine

      • Can anyone help??

    • I got that as well. Just persevere, I was successful in the end, as well. Just don't add anything on. because sometimes the accessories won't be sent, and that might damage your whole order.

      • Did you just keep hitting "continue" when the message comes up to delete the item? Or what did you do? Thanks

        • Just make sure you're ordering only the tablet, not the tablet plus sim, etc. Then just go through the ordering process. That's how it worked for me.

        • @jassep: There is nothing else in my cart.. did you get gold or white?

        • @sg89: white.

        • @jassep: Sorry to be a pain. You definitely got the 2016 one? I am able to check out with the 2015 one which I think is actually what is linked above under Gold?

        • @sg89: I got the original deal as posted.

    • Did you get it to work? If so, how? Thanks

  • +1

This is an excellent price guys as a bought one from Bing Lee sales for $450:(
But it is a very good tablet, so light and picture quality is too good:)

  • Does it come with standard warranty and what about the charger?

    • Charger is just a standard 5V 2.1A charger.

If you have a device bought locally from another phone or tablet, you can use that. Or if you bought something from Kogan they will give you their own AU charger which will work.

Or just a simple travel adapter.

      • or just bend the 2 pins on the charge so you can use it on local powerpoints.

  • Just noticed there is a price drop at Bing lee of $40 as well as it was $569 in Oct compared to now $529.

  • $352.12 delivered it shows up for me.

    • I think that's because you're using Amazon's currency exchange? I used my 28 Degrees mastercard in USD and got very close to the XE.COM rate. Little tricks I've learned. :)

  • damn so tempted too bad this is not local stock. less 10% TRS will be amazing

    • Is this the GST refund? How are you getting it, if you don't mind me asking? :)

      • +1

gee…. you get it if you travel overseas. just google TRS

        • -4

gee… I don't think you can claim GST refund on an item for which no GST was charged in the first place. You see my confusion.

        • +3

@jassep: well thats why i wrote "too bad this is not local stock"
local stock will have GST attached as it is sold by local store.

  • can anyone reccomend a good case (book case style)

I did a quick search on ebay and theres a lot but would like some advice from someone who owns one

    thank you

  • purchased 2. thanks OP

  • +1
