Wow, those are some pretty big discounts!
Still not worth it, but +1 for the effort. I guess this means the mower will drop to $350 during the next 10% off weekend, about the price I start to get interested..

    edit: Give me some skin?

I doubt there will be anything left next weekend which is why I jumped now, I too was waiting for 50% off but it's literally flying off the shelves. Springfield was broden'ed in literally a few days in between visits.

      • Agreed, I got mine for 30% + 10% last weekend, If you want the popular skins and packs, I think nows the time, there might be some of the less popular stuff at 50% but depend on how much you need it and how bothered you would be if you missed out.

  • No EGO stuff in the Box Hill, VIC store, was there tonight.

The shelves getting quite bare, but they have a lot of kitchen/cabinetry.

    • Did you happen to see if there was any Bosch blue stuff there?

      • no blue no green nadda

        • Cool thanks. Saved me a trip

  • I have been waiting for this. Any 7Ah battery?

    • I have been waiting for this. Any 7Ah battery?

Parkinson had a number of 6Ah batteries, a guy took one when I was there and there were two left at around 4pm yesterday.

  • Quick hint. Get yourself a voltmeter to heck how much juice is left on thr batteries.
Usually I use the trimmer and mower and blower in one 4A battery with some juice left.
I don't like to let the batteries die all the way so the voltmeter is quite handy

    • Why? These would be fitted with a Low Battery Cutt-off for that exact reason.

      • +1

Why? These would be fitted with a Low Battery Cutt-off for that exact reason.

And they have a battery level indicator.

        • Doesn't it just have a green light to show more than 15% charge? Or is there a way to get a better idea of charge state?

        • @butwhy:

Doesn't it just have a green light to show more than 15% charge? Or is there a way to get a better idea of charge state?

Yeah it's a bit crap compared to Bosch or DeWalt which give you the status with a few LEDs. The rapid charger gives you a charge status with four LEDs but that's not useful.

      • -1

They do have a light that is always green until it's red all of a sudden and cuts off meaning you have 15% or less.
To me that's over discharging. I like to discharge to max of 20-25%
Just like over discharging is bad for these batteries, so is fully charging them.

lithium-ion batteries do best when you discharge them for a little bit, then charge them for a little bit for longest life

No, it's green, orange and after that it goes red.

To me that's over discharging. I like to discharge to max of 20-25%

Nobody cares what you think, the manufacturer of this unit has set the cutoffs at levels it deems safe.

Just like over discharging is bad for these batteries, so is fully charging them.

          LOL.

lithium-ion batteries do best when you discharge them for a little bit, then charge them for a little bit for longest life

So you stop, check the battery voltage every two minutes to make sure you don't have too many volts or too few volts….. Just use the damn thing as the manufacturer intended. They have set charging levels that they deem best.

LOL you have no idea! The battery takes care of all of this for you, you don't have to worry about it. It can't discharge enough to damage itself, when it says 15% warning it's talking about the usable capacity not the real capacity. Just use the damn battery and let the battery take care of itself, sheesh I've heard it all now…… using a multimeter to manage the battery manually!

    EGO 56V CS1401E 35cm ChainSaw KIT (2.0Ah and charger*) $275.40 was $459 (Tradetools etc $459)
*The model sold at Tradetools etc is the newer CS1402E which has a 2.5Ah battery, there are no other changes. Confirmed with distributor today.

I was able to pick up the latest chainsaw kit (CS1403E) form the Tingalpa store during the 30% + 10% sale. Oddly enough, the store had in stock (be it, very limited levels) all 3 models of the chainsaw kit (CS1401E, CS1402E, and CS1403E). This could also be the case at the North Lakes store, so it is probably worth the effort to check/compare the model numbers on the remaining stock before making your purchase.

Whilst Bunnings is closer and has a vastly superior range, I am somewhat saddened by the closure of Masters. Masters became my go-to place for Panasonic power tools, painting and garden supplies. Plus I loved the convenience of Click & Collect.

P.S. With regards to the EGO mower…

I would personally avoid this mower, unless it is solely used on well maintained grounds (free of tree root systems, buried rocks, debris, etc). This is due to the mower utilising a bar blade, rather than swing-back blades.

Good work, I should have jumped at 37% instead of waiting for a larger discount. I checked all the chainsaws at North Lakes and they were all the CS1401E models so unless there are some at stores I didn't visit (Gold Coast) SEQ is likely out of them all and as for the blower kit :(

We've had a Bosch for 5 years with the same setup and never suffered any damage but we have nice lawns and we now have the EGO and I expect to have no issues as well. As you said I wouldn't want to use it if you use your mower to keep tree roots under control, stones aren't generally a issue (within reason as these are made of plastic) and I think for most people these are a good buy.

I just wish they had an option to have the two stroke smell emanate from them during use. That's the only part I miss.

Having said all that there are contractors out there who are using a lot of EGO gear (and other brands) on customers lawns, it would be interesting to hear how they get on.

      • We've had a Bosch for 5 years with the same setup and never suffered any damage but we have nice lawns

        My point exactly.

All it takes is to hit a solid root of a gum (ie. recently unearthed due to rain, yet masked still by the grass), and you can have terminal damage.

use your mower to keep tree roots under control

        Hahahaha

I just wish they had an option to have the two stroke smell emanate from them during use.

I certainly miss the Suzuki 2-Stroke powered mowers of yesteryear. Low maintenance, excellent power-to-weight ratio, and would chew anything put their path. Though admittedly, far from economical on the fuel.

  • Guys, anyone have any stock levels for NSW? Interested in the mower. There were none in Hoxton Park or Chullora stores. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated!

    • Marsden Park has around 20 mowers, 3 or 4 blowers a 38cm trimmer and a chainsaw. Also around 5 black and decker 45cm hedge trimmers

    • None of anything at rouse hill.

    • Also try St Marys they had about 20 mowers yesterday

  • +1

Majura Park (Canberra Airport) store had no EGO stuff when I was there a couple of weeks ago. Might have been one display hedger on the shelf but no new boxes. They were trying to flog the remaining Kobalt blowers for such a ridiculously marked up price (like over $400 on the ticket with their "discount" applied afterwards) so I decided to give up trying to find garden equipment bargains.

I'll go at the death of the store and pick up one of the 18V Triton SDS drill skins if they're decently discounted but they were still wanting $250 or so the last time I checked.

I got the EGO 56V ST1502E 38cm Brushless Trimmer KIT for $263 last weekend so it seems I went too early. Still the unit has a usa price of $199 so it's finally affordable here. It works really well so light. Seems to only use 1/2 a charge to do my 790m2 block with dual driveways so I'm happy with that. I have a bad disc in my back that's been causing me grief with my heavy 8.5kg plus commercial 4 stroke trimmer so the 4.2 kg ego 15 inch is a big boon for me. When you add up the number of cells in the battery and complicated charger, brushless motor and speed controller. I'm not sure is this could be made for $250. The quality of the unit is there too.

I'm not sold on the mowor as it has a bar blade and I don't see as much benefits over a light petrol one. Its pretty bloody light though I guess.

  • No mowers Roxburgh Park (no ego at all actually was all sent to Adelaide last week apparently) and no mowers at Northland.

Northland have 7 x hedge trimmer tho if interested.

Didn't see any. Just the hedge trimmers and after a bit of digging to get the pieces in order 1 x chainsaw kit (w battery), demo model. They mentioned no further discounts even though a demo.

    • Mowers, blowers and a trimmer at Marsden Park NSW

  • Does anyone know how much the batteries are for the ego 56v line trimmers? was thinking of getting a spare but only if price is good.

    • There are usually 4ah to 6ah batteries on the shelves but these are much bigger than what you get in the trimmer set which is usually the 2ah batteries. Normally a 2ah battery will last 45minutes on a line trimmer

      • You are correct the one with the trimmer is 2ah. We have a large yard so would like a spare battery to swap out, just wondering how much the spare batteries are worth now.

        • You are correct the one with the trimmer is 2ah. We have a large yard so would like a spare battery to swap out, just wondering how much the spare batteries are worth now.

Older models and/or kits are 2Ah, the newer ones are 2.5Ah.

Generally the 2Ah was with the old trimmers. With the Chainsaws the model is the same but the older kit came with 2.0Ah and the newer one comes with 2.5Ah.

      • My 38 cm came with 2.5ah battery

    • $169 RRP for the 2.5A version, so it should work out under $100. The reason I didn't buy one is that they have a battery management system. According to the manual, it will self discharge to 30% if it is left unused for 1 month.

  • 2.5ah is $169, 4ah and 5ah is normally $299. 6ah is $399. batteries are mostly sold out at the 4 stores I've checked. I think there are some 4ah batteries left at Parkinson qld

Richlands has around 7 skin only hedge trimmers left at midday Sunday, I purchased one even though I don't have a hedge.

They had 2 (TWO) mowers left!

  • Marsden Park NSW had at least 10x mowers this morning

  • I grabbed the last 38cm trimmer kit at Bibra Lake WA this morning. But there were about 10 38cm trimmer skins left and a bit of the 33cm stuff left as well (not sure if kits or skins though). I saw very few mowers left so I think you'd be lucky to get one now.

    • Any other stock in WA?

  • Williams landing has approx

  • Floor model at Rouse Hill. No battery, charger, box, etc. Same price. Extremely rude "manager". When she asked me where I saw the mower advertised, and I replied "Ozbargain", she said no young people (herself, I think) have ever heard of ozbargain so. I wished her good luck finding another job more suitable to her talents.

Nothing at Northmead, but plenty of helpful staff, doing little. Only one on the register. I bought a hose at 40% off. A waste of two hours, but an education. How can an organisation like Woolworths get so many things wrong? I'm glad I don't have shares.

Does it charge any better? I doubt it. All it offers is faster charging, for that price you could buy another battery so unless you need double speed charging I'd keep the existing charger.

I only gave up hope of finding a blower on Sunday and picked up a blower skin at TradeTools on special at the moment for $195 (normally $229). The chainsaws at North Lakes are probably all gone by now but worth checking out. And there were some chainsaw down at the Gold Coast I think.

I would get one now, TradeTools rarely discount their prices and I suspect this is only because they are new to selling the EGO range and it will end soon. Their in store prices still show the regular prices whereas the web site shows the discounted prices. I'm impressed at the power of the blower compared to my previous Stihl BG56, I suspect it has more blow with far less noise.

        • @Maverick-au:

        Thanks for the update Pete

  • first time i've heard of this brand, are they really good? surely a second hand commercial use 2 stroke whipper snipper is better than battery powered? as long as it gets the job done i suppose

    • Quite good, but it's reflected in the price
They remind me of Fiskars if you know the company

    • I researched the EGO mower idea for some time before I decided to buy the B&S petrol from Masters last week. I think it just comes down to the cost of replacing that battery.

Excellent initial reviews but weeding through updated ones on Amazon, some are experiencing reduced battery life just after one year. You could compare this with the cost of servicing a petrol, but then there is the possibility of that battery type not being stocked in the future.

Thumbs up for short term use though.

The battery takes standard 18650 cells and you can easily repack the battery if required but given the volumes of these sold there will be aftermarket batteries out there if something happened to EGO. The batteries have a three year warranty and there will always be plenty available second hand.

What will cost you to get a petrol mower serviced if there is a problem? $200+? $300+?

  • so theyre sold out in most NSW stores but there would be other mowers and trimmers still available for purchase?

  • bought the mower and the line trimmer from everton park

used them both today, really good! so much quieter and easy to set-up/maintain than petrol

    about 20 mowers left
    about 5 line trimmmers

  • Does anyone know if/how you can get a replacement receipt from Masters?
In my enthusiasm, it has gone missing.
    Thanks

What are you going to do with it! No refunds..well warranty may be…..Good luck with any Kobalt or Master brand warranty…that entity does not exist since few months ago!

      • LOL - only want the receipt in case it needs warranty (5 year warranty, 3y battery warranty by Ego)

Warranties on Kobalt and other Masters products are being honoured by Masters after their closure. This has been in all the media statements issued by Woolworths announcing the closure.

        • Maverick-AU or Masters-AU have you tried to get any information from the so called number that you are mentioning? Irrespective of the press release it is really hard to get any support once the business is no longer in existence. ACCC has no powers, no one can do anything, Dicksmith comes to mind. Buyer beware!
As people are aware the phone lines to the stores are already gone! One of the steps into a total shutdown!

        • @some_one_some_where: EGO are still in business and operating in Australia.
