  • 5" HD (720p) display is the deal breaker here

This was a better deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/272799

Although you can still get the Motorola Moto X (2nd generation) Unlocked Cellphone, 16GB, Black Soft Touch for $168 USD = ~$220 AUD

Yeah. Even my HTC One M7 32GB with its FHD 1080p 4.7" display beats this. :)

      • Still rocking mine too. Hopefully will last another 6 months till the Xiaomi mix drops :)

        • It drops in four days for the 11/11 sales

    If I were you, buy this Xiaomi Mi4C - 16GB/2GB, 5" FHD, Snapdragon 808, 13MP, 3080mAh for A$133 delivered.

    • Is Redmi 3S a better phone with the upcoming AliExpress deal? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/274096

      • +1

Its alot slower, has a lower res screen but has a sd card and a bigger battery. Camera probably worst as well.

Depends what is more important to you.

      • I choose the Xiaomi Mi4c above Redmi 3s. Redmi is an entry level sub-brand of Xiaomi.

        • But still great! Value for money, it's the best line of phones that I know of besides the Nexus. Pity Xiaomi don't have an official close-to-pure Android rom.

Waiting for a deal on the 32GB G4 plus.

  • This phone has the same SoC my nearly 2-year old Huawei Y550 had…

      I've had a Y550 and now have a G Play… It's like comparing a Corolla to a Veyron.

You can nitpick the spec on paper, but in real usage they're a great camera for the money, if you don't want something with Chinese backdoors. The camera takes fantastic shots, the battery lasts for days with heavy usage, it's fast to use and the screen is fine. On a tiny screen you'd have to have good eyes to pick the difference between 720 and 1080.

      • Can you link to more information on security being compromised? Also what if you flash CM instead?

  • Looking for a phone in about this price range for my daughter about to start high school and look forward to suggestions as to what I should buy. Are there any issues with buying phones from Amazon that may not work with Australian frequencies?

    • G4 Play is a great example - there are 2 versions, one will work (looks like this deal is this one), and the other won't.
