Specially Selected Brioche Burger Buns 4pk $2.69 (Was $3.29) Everyday @ ALDI

1260

I actually have never seen anyone post this so I guess I am the first one? Absolute bargain compared to these from Woolies, almost half-price and probably just the same quality IMO these are amazing for the price.

I truly hate these rolls, exactly like a macas roll.

That said I'm more of a Turkish pide kind of guy.

    • You're not alone. Putting sickly-sweet chewy Broiche buns on burgers ruins the flavour.

Even crappy normal burger buns taste better. If you want to go fancy, use something that actually complements or enhances the flavour of the burger, like damper-style or sourdough.

  • +13

    Regular price.

    • +6

The op stated as such but explained he felt them a bargain because they are much cheaper than woollies.

      • +16

I know, but we at not comparing with the same name brand in other stores. Aldi has lots of aldi brand items that are cheaper than equivalent items at colesworth. Can't go on posting those as bargains.

        • +4

Yes, I was just trying to defend the op a bit before 200 people blasted him though :)

          This site is abit like;
"hey everyone I'm having a Marmite sandwich"

200 people post he should eat Vegemite, he is unaustralian, death threats, afew car bombs and a FBI raid.

          Lol makes me smile inside

        • @Slippery Fish:

Yes, I was just trying to defend the op a bit before 200 people blasted him though :)

No one negged the deal ;)

        • @ms: lol

        • +2

@Slippery Fish: You left out bikies. ;)

        • +1

@StewBalls: had to, the FBI are involved lol

        • +1

@ms: lol. your comment was a bit too early.

  • +7

Sorry, but RRP is not a bargain.

    • +3

I thought that this is a bargain compared to this https://www.woolworths.com.au/Shop/Browse/bakery/rolls-wraps…

    • +5

It used to be $3.29 a few weeks ago.

      • +3

Well done n-s. OP, please update title stating price drop.

FWIW I've been looking for brioche at a reasonable price for a while. As per usual, when there is little competition in Australia, customers are often taken to the cleaners.

  • +12

Best burger rolls ever! Aldi ones are made in france
But this is an everyday price not really a bargain

    • +3

      Made in france

Is that giving some vague notion that it's gourmet or something?

      • Mais oui!!!

      • Marketing makes it seem that whatever it is, if it's French it must be better.

    • +7

When colesworth import bread from overseas, australian consumers are outraged. Aldi does it and they're celebrated.

      • +6

If you import apples from China, that's probably bad. If you import Champagne from Champagne that's probably not a bad idea. Australia needs the real deal on the market to improve local goods so Australia can compete at the highest level. Australia is a small market, ROTW is huge.

Hope I'm not debating with Brezit/Trump-grade people here. Australia is better than that. Much better.

        • +1

iphones come from China. So do cheap copies.

Just because it comes from France doesn't make it necessarily superior; each country that produces large volumes of things also has cheap - often inferior - versions.

        • +1

          @odysseus:

Brioche is French. They've been making them for centuries. Aldi are European and know what to look for/get a good deal. Simples.

        • @tightwad:
True. But no self-respecting French person would (be seen to) buy mass produced cheap brioche that has been shipped to the other side of the world & sold ages later…

Fresh & local is best, but we don't live around the corner from a great Boulangerie 🍰 in France & quality specialist bakeries here are expensive😢

        • @Infidel:

Don't be so certain. The supermarket stuff isn't so good. Not all French people are gourmands.

And don't start me on the servo sandwiches!

  • +9

Had burgers with these last night, pretty awesome

  • +4

Looks tasty, wouldn't have known about this otherwise. thanks OP

    • +1

You mustn't watch FTA tv or have the ad campaign like we do in WA. I guess Aldi is still fairly new here.

  • +5

What happens to the ones they don't specially select?

    • +11

      End up at woolies

      • +2

I think (could be wrong) that Colesworth cheap stuff is getting better to complete with Aldi. Just a hunch, though.

        • +1

In house baked stuff? Nah not near me, quality is shite!

        • @sqeeksqeek:

Nay, lad/lass! Ugly red and white stuff.

        • @tightwad: Oh, that stuff. Yes it sure is. Woolworths is now actively competing on price (after years of not doing so).

    • +1

      They go to John West?

      • Winner!

  • +12

Oh wow. I wait and wait for them to be marked down at Woollies as they are bloody pricey, but happy to grab them from Aldi anytime at this price.
Thanks for the heads up. Would not have known otherwise.

  • +3

Yeah, regularly have these - much nicer than the "normal" bread rolls for making burgers!

  • -6

I'd love to see legislation introduced making it illegal for anything served on brioche to be called a burger in Australia. Oh, and it has to have beetroot!

Okay, maybe that's taking it a bit far but what happened to the good old Aussie burger that you couldn't eat without it dripping down your arm to your elbow.

    • +2

What is your problem with freedom exactly?

    • +4

OzB, You probably think you are being patriotic? Good old Aussie burger? Like Aussie fish and chips, pies, bacon and eggs (from US, UK, UK and UK, respectively.) All white? Been part of the diet for long enough to obliterate the origins.

Better leave it here. I'm off for a good old fashioned Aussie curry and and an Aussie tiramisu for desert.

      • -4

OzB, You probably think you are being patriotic?

Get off your high horse and save your condescending diatribe for when you're sitting around sipping lattes or chardonnay or whatever's trendy these days.

Know what else I remember, people with a sense of humour…but that was long before internet heroes.

        Just for the do gooders

what happened to the good old burgers that used to be served in Australia back in the 70s & 80s? Couldn't eat one without it without grease and sauce dripping down your arm to your elbow and you could feel your arteries hardening as it went down.

        • +1

'Do gooders.' That phrase tells me everything 😊

You don't seem to even reply to my point. Par for the course. Why discuss when you can berate?

        • -4

          @tightwad:

Really, wouldn't think you'd need anyone to tell you anything cos you know it all already!

You don't seem to even reply to my point. Par for the course. Why discuss when you can berate?

Ninja edit. Okay, what exactly is your point or are you just trolling? Nothing in your post makes any sense to me.

Been part of the diet for long enough to obliterate the origins.

No but they are now 'Australianised' versions of the original.

I'm off for a good old fashioned Aussie curry

Unless you live in a predominately Indian/Sri Lankan etc community then the curry you're buying is an Aussie curry. There's no way you'll get anything like it in the country of origin.

          All white?

What's this mean? Are you implying I'm a racist?

All I've gotten out of your original post is that you've misunderstood my attempt at humour. Tried to clarify it for you with "good old burgers that used to be served in Australia back in the 70s & 80s" but that's managed to whoosh straight past you.

Why discuss when you can berate?

Classic case of the pot calling the kettle black. Not racist BTW, way way back both pots and kettles were heated over a fire which turned them black.

        • +1

          @OzBragain:

          Oops, you've done it again!

        • -2

          @tightwad:

You don't seem to even reply to my point. Par for the course. Why discuss when you can berate?

You cracked that noice chardy and ready to let us know the point you're trying to make???

          Oops, you've done it again!

is a little too abstract for my wittle bwain.

  • +3

    As others have already said.
This is a regular, everyday price.
    Made in France.

There are also hot-dog rolls - same price, but 6 rolls instead of 4 buns.
For the real ozbargainer, you get more weight with the rolls (IIRC, the buns are 400gms, whereas the rolls are 480gms or something)

Not a deal. You could go through the shelves at Aldi and compare to items at Colworths.

    • Not a deal.

7 others disagree with you as it's cheaper here rather than at woolies

This is a regular, everyday price.

      Still cheaper than woolies

      Made in France.

      Isn't that a good thing?

You could go through the shelves at Aldi and compare to items at Colworths.

Would you like me to do that for you?

I'm not trying to be rude but I'm just helping others out by pointing out a cheaper product.

      • +1

At least he is trying to support Aussie made?

        • +2

This is a deal as the price has dropped recently.

        • @tightwad: Yes, you are correct. I say OP is right to post this.

        • +1

          @PJC:

Sorry, I was replying to bear…

  • +1

You don't have to artificially inflate prices and slap a discount sticker on something for it to be classified as a bargain. Great value here, WP Aldi.

  • +3

Thanks heaps for posting. Still a deal compared to similar products.

  • +2

If you're feeling lazy, they're delicious just with a bit of avocado.

    • Balance out bad fat with good fat ^_^

  • I read it as burger buns 4K lol

  • +1

These are pretty good, and are pre-cut for the lazy out there.

  • +2

Where's the bargain? It's normal price.

    • +4

Specially selected. These buns are specially selected from a bunch of buns that are exactly the same. If they weren't specially selected you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. :D

      • Price drop.

  • +2

these are great for when making homemade burgers. better than a maccas burger bun btw

  • -4

not a deal.. because this is always the price at ALDI…. i assume the ones who place a +, might be rarely shop at ALDI.
the brand ALDI sold and woolies/coles are totally different brand. therefore not a bargain.

if you place a + and consider this is a bargain, then there are heaps of stuff at ALDI should get a + feedback… such as the chips they sold at a normal price is cheaper than coles/woolies normal chips price different brand.

i guess people are comparing the similar stuff with a different brand in 2 different store with a 2 standard non sales price… can this be called a bargain?
for example, the mineral water in ALDI is cheaper than coles/woolies… can i post this as a bargain on 2 different brand on its standard price?

    • +6

It's like people posting a Soniq TV at a normal price and saying it's a bargain because it's cheaper than a Sony.

      • +2

It's like people posting a chair at a normal price and saying it's a bargain because it's cheaper than a stool
        😂😂

    • +5

This is half the price of competitors. Find me a 4 pack of Brioche Buns for this price in Australia and I forgive you. But this is a bargain even at regular price

    • Maybe it should be a long running deal?

  • -6

Regular price so not a bargain.

    • +1
      • +5

        Sorry, Savas😯
But now this price IS the regular price - its in the deal title Everyday @ ALDI.
Now, that's what I found out from reading😀

        • +1

Yes, I do get your point. Sorry

    • Look. Im trying to be nice this whole time but. This is half the price of competitors. Find me a 4 pack of Brioche Buns for this price in Australia and I forgive you. But this is a bargain even at regular price.

      • +1

Resticted to Australia… Ah well, in France its cheaper, fresher & better😀

But this is a bargain even at regular price.

Everyday @ ALDI (as you state in title) means this is the regular price!

  • +2

Thank you so much OP, I had no idea Aldi sells these, I love the one's from Woolies but they are so pricey. Thanks for posting.

    • How often do you go to Aldi?

      • Regularly. Didn't see these.

        • +1

Surprisingly, its with the other white bread…
Has been promoted in the catalogs.

        • @Infidel:

I don't eat white bread! Carbs.

        • @tightwad:
Similar for me. Just tried it out of curiosity as it was promoted in catalog ages ago. Disappointed it wasn't the sinful treat I was looking forward to. (Quality, texture & flavour were lacking - but I haven't tried other supermarket versions) Otherwise I would never have known as I don't shop in that section.

  • +4

I actually have never seen anyone post this

Because its really only advertising at RRP.
    Not a bargain or deal.

People may not be aware of many regular priced offerings at many many stores or online, but that does not make those a bargain or worthy of thousands of deals.

(It's been more than 6 months since $2 milk was posted! Post deals for each supermarket offering it?)

Belongs in Forums as a PSA as an option for lovers of better burgers etc.

  • +1

All the rage these days, this brioche bun..

    • +1

I guess people will do anything for a bit of novelty, even replacing good tasting buns with inferior sickly-sweet chewy Brioche buns.

  • +1

Wow. So many butthurt people here. You're saving like $2.30 but you keep saying its not a bargain? What has happened to OzBargain. Because a RRP LITERALLY HALF THE PRICE of competitors is still not a bargain.

    • +1

The problem with that argument is that they are different brands..

      • -2

        Everything isnt the same brand…

    • +2

It's that price Everyday @ ALDI as stated in deal title.

So, not saving anything over regular price at Aldi. (Was dearer when introduced. I paid the dearer price & didn't like the brioche much.)

And it's not the same product as stocked elsewhere. You can't just compare prices on different products & conclude the cheaper one is the bargain.
(My father refused to buy our favourite biscuits, buying the cheapest. Complaining, we'd be told it's a biscuit - what are you complaining about & eat it. As we hardly ate any, his frugality was rewarded as packets lasted so long. With your economic reasoning, you'd get along fine 😯)

If your message is some things (like the brioche range) are cheaper at Aldi - that's a worthy Forum discussion.

Just because people are not aware of the range of products (& prices) a supermarket carries, does not make it a deal😯

  • +2

Also available as a loaf & chocolate version of that.

I've bought these, but not my cup of tea. It is more a fancy fluffy white bread (typical of our cheap supermarket bread), lacking the richness & flavour of real brioche. I miss great fresh brioche.

    Qu'ils mangent de la brioche😯

    • But the chocolate chip brioche loaf from Aldi is absolutely delicious toasted.
…and these buns are superb with a couple of slabs of cooked Bacon.

  • +5

Bearosaurus, don't waste your time and just ignore the complainers. You've helped some of us out and that's all that counts. Thanks again.

  • For a second I saw Specially Elected Bueger Bums there

  • +4

    OK!

These used to be $2.49 a pack up until a few weeks ago. I thought they weren't a bargain the and especially not after the Aldi price increase by 20 cents to 2.69

  • +1

You got negged because of your awful profile picture

    • +1

      Didn't realise it had changed - Nasty😯

  • +1

    good for making hipster burgers

    • +1

      About those hipster brioche burgers…
(It's a News Ltd puff opinion piece with Mr Crowe (founder of Grill’d Burgers), I like a brioche bun with my occasional burger)

But what about the Brioche burger bun?
Brioche buns have divided Aussie burger lovers, popping up on menus at pubs and hipster burger joints around the country.
Brioche is technically a pastry, with a high egg and butter content that gives it a rich and fluffy texture.

“There’s been this move towards brioche buns, which we are really opposed to,” says Mr Crowe. “We use artisan buns with no sugar added and it’s got its own leaven. We’re trying to reduce the amount of sugar people are consuming.”
      Okay. So no brioche.
