  • Great deal!

  • +2

good, but I'm not sure I want to sink so much on giftcards… :D

still have quite a bit of HVN, collecting DJs, etc. So much $$ tied up, although the return is pretty good, way better than 1.5% cash rate. ;)

    • +3

You also save on the 1.65% credit card surcharge @ Crown venues.

    • Same. I have got so much money tied up on gift cards from DJ, Country road, Zara etc from Amex deals it's getting wasteful now if I don't spend it

  • +1

wish i could split it over 4 amex cards and get $60 rebated!!

    • +1

Yeah … i tried no way to split the payments to 4x100 … :)

    • Just did over the counter :D

      • Wait but isn't it online only? I was going to suggest that but saw that it's only for online purchase.

        • Yes, it was always advertised as an 'online only' offer in the past too, but never had any issue with buying in person

        • +1

Yup.can confirm u can do split payments at the gift store counter at crown.

  • Thanks!

  • +1

Might slowly be going broke with all these Amex deals. :'(

    • I agree! :)

Good and bad at the same time.

  • +1

Mrs and I literally just spent the last weekend at Crown + Nobu dinner and Atrium lunch to use the $500 gift card (+ extra $200 as a birthday gift) purchase through this same deal earlier in the year.

Had a great time with great food - considering getting this again!

    • +4

Don't forget to swipe through your crown membership card too to get ~5% worth of points.

      • +3

definitely! was also one of the rare occasions we walked out of the casino with more money so a great weekend all up!

    • +1

If it was in Entertainment Book this year (it doesn't seem to be), you'd have saved even more! ;)

      • Atrium is in there though :)

    • Can you pay for accommodation booked online with the gift card?

I just did a dummy run through a Crown Metropol booking for 1 night and at the payment screen it looks like the card options are Amex, Diners, Visa, Mastercard and Union Pay (whatever that is).

      • +1

Call em up and say you want to pay with a gift card, can't use it online.

When you check in they will also need a credit card for a bond, but at check out just let them know you are paying via gift card.

        I didn't have any issues.

  • can you buy chips with this?

    • +2

Only fries in the food court … maybe crips too.

      • The Crips are in the food court? Are the Bloods there also?

        Straight outta Compton y'all

        • You mean Broadmeadows.

        • @nightelves: Well I guess that would be a shorter commute, and cheaper if you use your centrelink card.

    • Definitely not :D

      • +1

        too bad.

        • Yep too bad. Would have been a $115 profit.

  • Anyone else showing the pickup location as Melbourne only? Is it safe to send these via post, they don't require any activation do they?

    • Yes i had $3k worth of giftcards all arrive safely in the mail six separate envelopes lol

  • Offer is strictly limited and valid for purchases made from 14 November – 24 December 2016.

Hmmm to clarify, gift card value expires after Christmas?

    • +1

no. gift cards are usually valid for 12 months.

The offer is the offer for $500 value for $400. That ends 24/12.

      • Awesome, I didn't want to buy the card only to find out the bonus has expired.

I'll buy 3 as our family is going to Heston in Jan.. Perfect!

  • Would've been good if can be stacked with free bathrobe

  • how does one get the 15% amex ?

    • GEt an Amex card, register for the offer. But the registration maxed out already.

    • $15 not 15%.

  • Been trying to sell my $500 gift card for cash :(

    • i wont try and lowball you, but if your willing to accept better than current crown + Amex offer, message me !!! If not good luck with it, or just enjoy it at a fancy restaurant or a night at the metropol

    • Plan to visit Crown with the family soonish, so message me if you want to sell.

  • Has anyone ever tried to put these cards in an ATM and use the pin on them to see if you can withdraw the cash? As far I remember they are EPFTOS cards with Crown logo on them

    • +1

tried and you wont be able to

    • No these are not those ones you are referring to.. Those ones are only sold on the vending machine opposite to the cinema but you won't get any discount for those cards.. Also BE AWARE that the vendor is actively tracking each card used for purchasing those gift cards.. If any transaction outside Crown Casino is detected, next time you purchase these gift cards with the same card, they will suspend the gift cards indefinitely.. Very scary!

      • so use a diff credit card next time!

        • Will run out of cards at some point in time? There are better avenues than this anyway!

      • Where did you hear this?

        • Own experience :S Lucky AMEX was super helpful.. Reversed the charge for me!

        • @feihong: omg that is scary. How many $500 giftcards had you purchased from the machine? I think I'm on my second only.

        • @marquise: At that time, I purchased 4, pretty scary huh..

        • @feihong: Did you buy 4 in one go? Or over a period of time? Mine were months apart so maybe I flew under the radar?

        • @marquise: I bought 4 in one go, about 2 months after the first lot.

        • @feihong: Hmm ok thanks for the info.

        • @marquise: No worries. I think the problem originated from this thread:
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/241682

The alarm bell may have sounded with the sudden spike in gift card sales!

      • Sorry, I don't understand.

You bought crown giftcards (not Crown EFTPOS cards) and tried to use them somewhere else, outside of Crown? Can that actually be done?

        • No, I meant Crown EFTPOS gift cards in this case. You cannot use Crown issued gift cards outside Crown, system won't allow it

        • @feihong: why should they not allow Crown EFTPOS cards to be used outside Crown? That seems a bit odd… and why were you buying Crown EFTPOS cards, if there was no financial benefit?

        • @bluedufflecoat: Because there's the Eftpos function. It can go through at terminals outside of Crown. But the people managing these cards monitor them closely.

        • @bluedufflecoat: If you look at the old thread I posted earlier, you can see that many ozbargainers bought a large quantity of them for points. T&C says no spending outside Crown is allowed even though it's an EFTPOS gift card

        • @feihong: ok, I understand T&C about not spending outside Crown… that is a T&C.

Re: buying EFTPOS cards for points, I still don't understand why people do this… aren't people just tying up lots of money to get points, they would normally get if they used their CC as usual?

        • @bluedufflecoat: there are merchants who don't accept credit card as payment and this is when EFTPOS cards come in handy.. Post Office is always busy when there is a large quantity of EFTPOS cards :D

        • @feihong: ahhh, finally makes sense now. Thanks feihong.

  • Can anyone confirm if the expiry is 12 months on these?

    • Yes, it is 12 months. They will write the expiry at the back of the card, for your reference.

  • Anybody who has bought them at the Crown Burswood office in Perth and can confirm that they have received the $60 cashback?

    • +1

From previous purchases all cards need to be shipped from Melbourne even picking up from crown PERTH. So I guess you can only pay at crown gifts counter in Melbourne.
Unless if they have crown gifts counter in PERTH now

  • You can buy them from the reception desk in Perth but they don't have a Crown Gifts shop AFAIK

    • +2

The lady at the cloak room( crown counter) insist the deal only available on-line, I wasn't able to pricematch to buy through counter

      • Thanks for the info, saved me a wasted trip to crown!

  • +2

FYI, Crown Melbourne is now enforcing '2 AMEX max only' policy.. Apparently there was a massive queue this morning with people paying with 4 AMEXs and the management just said enough is enough.

  • +1

Just dropped by, they would only take 1x card now, a bit disappointing.
On the other hand, I just saved $370 I guess, as consolation!

  • Lucky I bought my first four gift cards before they put the restriction in.. The next question is, which place to splurge on!

    • Dinner by Heston?

      • +1

Yep, that's definitely on the plan! Also thinking about the massage service, and some 'lower end' eateries that I would like to try such as San Antone's BBQ

  • can these gift cards be used to pay for stays at the hotel?

    • +2

      Definitely yes

      • cool thanks man, is that only for use in person at Crown? i tried making a booking online but there weren't any options to pay by gift cards?

        • Yes, only in person. However you can call up and ask whether you can make a booking online first and then swap over your payment from say a credit card (ie refund to that credit card) and then pay with your gift card at the counter. I haven't tried that myself at Crown but this method quite often worked with other retailers.

        • feihong is right, you can book using your credit card, and they will also want to have your credit card on file, but when you check out, you can make payment using your gift card. I have been doing that for the last few years, earning points, and saving on credit card surcharge.

        • @ef9: what do you mean by 'earning points', with your cc or with crown rewards? do we have to inform that if we make a booking online first that payment will be settled by gift cards? and is there a limit to the number of gift cards that can be used in one go?

      • Yep same deal at Crown.

        • I wonder how many points you get - make sure you sign in when you buy it … had to use another link.

        • @random101:

You don't get any points when you buy a gift card.

You get the points when you use the card.

        • How much value would you get?

        • @folken2k:

5% back in points on your card.

        • @crazycs: ok. Hasn't changed then. Think I've only been there once in the past 2 years :D

    • +1
