  • Is there a minimum spend?

    • Dont think so

    COOL! Free money!

  • This is worrying….

3- By participating in this offer, you agree to ANZ disclosing your information to a third party (Edge Loyalty Solutions Pty Ltd) about the redemption you make and contacting you via email or SMS.

    • +8

I think that's the company that handles the gift card redemption

    • it's the co. that handles the eftpos gift cards

  • +2

Thanks OP. So you can deposit $2000, withdraw it, then deposit the same $2000 the following month and remain fee free?

    • +1

yeah I pretty much do this to eliminate ATM fees on my ING direct

      • +1

I never thought to do this, you are my hero.

      • +2

I wouldn't bother with ING anymore after they've cancelled the 2% cash back. Macquarie's transaction account also rebates all ATM fees in Australia without the deposit requirement and no monthly fees.

    • -1

or just use a NAB savings account, which attracts no annual fee. NAB (in conjunction with RediATM) also has more ATMs than ANZ which has the lowest number of ATMs out of the big-4. absolutely no reason to have an ordinary transactional account with ANZ (save for if you wanted to take advantage of this offer and close the account).

      • +2

absolutely no reason to have an ordinary transactional account with ANZ (save for if you wanted to take advantage of this offer and close the account)

        That's what everyone is doing.

  • Is there a fee to close the account?

    • +1

That is what I want to know as well

    • +1

Do any bank accounts have fees to close them? I don't recall seeing any.

      • +1

Just seems too good to be true lol.

      • -1

If they do, just withdraw everything except $0.01 and leave it to go dormant. But as others state, account closing fees are rare.

        • +1

But you'll still have to pay the $5/month to keep it open though :(

    • No.

    • Commbank charged me $20 back in 09 to close my transaction account. LOL

      • I closed an ANZ transavtion account in 2014/2015 and it cost nothing.

  • +1

hmm, received an error messsage when i chose to do an online id check. have to go into a branch instead.

    • +1

I didn't get any opportunity to enter my email address, so you can imagine my confusion when the page told me that confirmation will be sent to my email.

    • I didn't get to choose to do an online id check lol When did you get to choose that?

    • yeah same "system failure" please verify in store

  • +5

Awesome! Applied. ANZ = suckers… lol..

  • Applied for myself and partner.

  • +2

Thanks OP. Do we have to call to apply for waiving of the monthly fee if we are under 25 or is it automatically applied?

    • I think you might have to go in branch when you do your identity check, you can probably mention it then

      • Hmm, okay. I didn't see anything regarding identity checks when I signed up and got an email saying that my account will be open within one business day?

        • Probably an existing customer?

        • @f4te:

I don't think so. Have never had any accounts with ANZ.

        • @f4te:
I cancelled my ANZ about 2 years ago but didn't get any identity checks, neither for NAB or IGN etc when applying. So I guess it depends on your credit rating etc.

        • @lufee:
Does having bank accounts affect your credit rating?!?!

        • @citygal: No. You arent applying for "credit"

  • Good find !

  • ANZ profit slides 24% to 5.7b

    A) ANZ has too much money
    B) ANZ needs to increase customers
    C) All of the above

  • "We're sorry. This service is temporarily unavailable due to routine maintenance.
We welcome you to apply online at a later time, or alternatively, to proceed with your application please call 1800 008 177. "

Involves effort, not the ozb way…

    • +1

Ozbargain way is to almost EVERYTHING to qualify for the deal. And it's $100!!!

      • Yeah the Ozbargain way is to completely ignore the cost of time. So many 'deals' that involve way too much loss of time/dignity.

        • Actually, I think people do tend to account for the cost of time, but in this day and age opening a savings account (at a bank who claims to want new customers, and wants its customers to use internet banking, etc.) should not involve any effort or going into a branch at all.

Of course it hasn't actually turned out that way which leads to the sunk cost fallacy and me probably going into my local brach after work this afternoon for a stupid in-person "ID check".

  • Can opening up too many bank accounts affect your credit score?

    • +4

      No, they're not providing credit.

    • If they did i'm in trouble. I have NAB, Comm, Ubank, MacqBank, ING & now ANZ

  • Visa Debit purchase = Paywave?

Or is it select "credit" from the EFT terminal and enter PIN?

    • I think that won't matter, they're calling the card a "Visa Debit" card

      • Sweet! Bloody good deal…there's nothing sweeter than free $$$.

  • +1

Their online ID checking system failed to load. Told me to visit a branch. Bit of a pain.

    • +2

Ditto: "System failure - Sorry, we're unable to complete your Online Identity Check at this time."

You'd think a major bank would be able to get online identity verification working in 2016? All the mobile carriers to seem able to verify identity in 60 seconds or less.

      • If you think that is bad wait until you download their mobile app😱😱

Let me put it this way it lack what other banks have had since 2015. It doesn't even have a logout button.

But I say BRAVO to ANZ for fee money.

        • ANZ's app is terrible!!

  • +1

Just applied. Don't have an option to choose to do Online ID check. Said that they'll email me but no email.

    • +1

Same, I applied both for myself and partner.
Mine when through without ID check and got email of processing but my partner needed to do ID check but didn't receive any email.

      • My partner went through ID check and got email. I didn't get ID check and no email :( I called them and they said they didn't even have my details on the system and told me to wait for 24-48 hrs.

        • Same here citygal.

I think the onboarding system runs overnight processes and they would only be able to see our applications after 1/2 days. I went to the branch and found the same.

          Regards

        • +1

          @varunynr:
The staff on the phone said the $100 gift card promotion is only valid for online application. So we may as well wait for the online process rather than opening a bank account in the branch.

        • @citygal:

Agreed, open it online and get the id check done in branch.

  • How long after spending 3 times do you get the code for the gift card?

    • +2
      • Subject to meeting the eligibility criteria, an unique Reward Code will be emailed to an email address registered to the new ANZ Access Advantage account by 8 February 2017
  • i'm getting error

    We're sorry
This service is temporarily unavailable due to routine maintenance.

    • The site is ozbargained !

      • I think it's just a buggy site. I helped someone open an ANZ account several months ago and ran into problems then. There was an error message with instructions to complete the account set up at a branch. At the bank they said the account was already set up and ID had been verified.

  • +2

They also support Android Pay and Apple Pay too!

  • Thanks OP, had no issues applying on my mobile.

  • ANZ is going downhill. There were lots of problems with the $250 bonus promotion for the ANZ low rate platinum credit card.

    • It's one of the big four, this would be a small promotion in the grand scheme of things but be prepared to be hastled by their Call centre staff selling insurance and other (expensive) products once they have your contact

      • +3

You an opt out of that in the sign up process.

        • Thanks - I must have missed it the last time

  • Damn it! I signed up to them a month ago solely because they have Apple Pay.

  • I should do this but I am lazy.. ugh

    • Treat it like working 1 hour to open account, verify ID and all sort of stuff for $100. Maybe you will change your mind lol

      • +4

        Tax free though ;)

  • What's special about this account? What's interest rate on offer?

    • +8

It comes with a free $100 gift card.

      • You mean we don't give ANZ $100?

        • No. You make 3 purchases (can be $0.5 each transaction) then ANZ will send you a $100 gift card in February 2017, provided you deposit $2000 per month to waive monthly fee.

        • @citygal: lol i was joking.

  • +1

Could possibly score another $10 out of this. ANZ anouced earlier in the year a one off payment of $10 for switching off paper statements.

    • One of the agreements when I open the account is to receive information electronically tho.

  • Can I save 2000 and take it out within one minute? Or I have to save the money overnight?

    • Can I save 2000 and take it out within one minute?
      Yes

Or I have to save the money overnight?
      No

      • Sorry..I forget to mention that I want to avoid the monthly fee..

        • Yes you can deposit $2000 and then withdraw it straight away to avoid the $5 monthly fee. Don't need to leave it overnight.

        • @citygal: Thanks!

        • @citygal: I believe that we have to be smarter here. Put $2000, make $1 purchase, transfer $1999 to ANZ online saver. Do the same following month until you get the voucher, transfer the full amount from ANZ online to Access, transfer the full amount to another bank account. Close Access and ANZ online saver account. Lesson learnt from past bad experience with other financial institution.

        • @yht:
Yeah, that's way to get around it. But that's the option if you don't want to open another saving account considering the interest rate isn't really great.

      • -1

If I open 2 ANZ accounts, this, and the online saver (which gives high interest), and link the online saver to this account. Each month, can I move $2000 from the online saver to this account. And right back to online saver.

Will this (movement of funds between 2 ANZ accounts) qualify as depositing $2000?

I ask because with ING and Ubank, to qualify for bonus conditions, the deposit must come from an external bank account.

        Thanks in advance.

  • +2

Can you close your account once you have received the voucher? and is there any account closing fee?

    • +1

Can you close your account once you have received the voucher?
      Yes

Is there any account closing fee?
      No

      • Thanks :)

  • does one qualify if they already hold a ANZ PENSIONER ADVANTAGE account?

    • i imagine so, they are different account types

    • +1

If it's a ANZ Access Advantage account and you waive the monthly fee by providing your pension card, then no.

If it's a different type of account called "Pensioner Advantage account", then you should be eligible.

  • Just got an email that my access advantage account is now open - however no confirmation of gift cards.
Hopefully get confirmation when I receive debit card in the mail

    • Same!!! I had an account many years ago, and currently have a cc with them, so this was easy!!

    • +2

Don't you have to make 3 purchases first?

    • I just received an email as well. The email said account is open but need to do ID check in branch to withdraw $. Also, gotta set up internet banking, phone banking and visa debit card in branch.

  • in how much time would they provide the gift cards post the 3 transactions are done ?

    • Subject to meeting the eligibility criteria, an unique Reward Code will be emailed to an email address registered to the new ANZ Access Advantage account by 8 February 2017.

  • so i signed up and approved with bsb/acc numbers ready now (signed yesterday 10pm), how will they know to notify me about the $100 gift card?
