Not much in store these days. Went to a couple whilst on a lazy Sunday drive, and all the good stuff are gone.

  • +12

Surely by now it must only be the stuff that
    1) no body wants or,
    2) is still cheaper at Bunnings

    • Depends what you want I suppose. None of the good trade items are still there of course, but we're buying interior paint today, and considering it WAS 60% off, I'm hoping its now 70% off - and no, they havent run out of the tints either.

      • If you are buying metal tin paints open them all up and check for rust. A few people were tripped up by this.

  • Anyone been to a Masters in Perth that have any EGO batteries left?

  • If anyone is after Ego batteries, came across some at cash converters, of all places. Confirmed they are available instore as well, butif they sell on their web store, too bad

    https://m.webshop.cashconverters.com.au/items/?searchFor=Ego

    • If anyone is after Ego batteries, came across some at cash converters, of all places.

There are batteries and chargers making their way onto eBay as people get rid of their spares from buying kits.

  • There's still plenty to be had at masters chullora. I went in close to closing time and didn't get enough time to look otherwise would have bought more. $10 for a greenhouse normally $39. $2.70 for core drills. This same one retails at $110 at bunnings. I go through quite a few and have stocked up.

This might be me thinking this but suddenly our local store is almost empty, I see them regularly taking stuff off shelves and taking them away leaving the shit nobody wants. Are they really selling anything and everything at 50% plus off or are they selling the better stuff elsewhere or to others for little loss.
If I be honest I got better deals when masters where not closing down.

      • That's interesting. I am a little shocked as I thought it would still move through quite well however it does make sense as you would think most stores would have had more than just the display stock and one ectra

      • Yeah that auction is the real closing down sale.

They're moving stock around in the store and closing off empty areas.

Pretty much everything has been for sale but the better things are going/gone early. You have to work out if you want to wait and risk losing it or buy it now and it's cheaper the next day.

If I be honest I got better deals when masters where not closing down.

For some things absolutely. It's annoying that all these people come out for the closing down sale like vultures but didn't support it earlier on when great bargains were a plenty.

      • They're moving stock around in the store and closing off empty areas.

        This is true in WA.
Stock is being transferred to the other stores that sells it quicker.

Understood. In early August I got this heavy duty shelving for $39.60 :-
      https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/46870/44009/img_201608…
On Sunday the standard version, after all discounts, was over $91.

Been wanting to get some more decking oil .. bought some when it was on sale for $39 ages ago at Masters.. RRP is $86 (I think very close to that) so even at 50% off it's not at a price they were willing to dip down to before (but close enough I'll grab it I guess).

    • Before the closing down sale the offers were often better as they were deals with the suppliers for buif purchases. Since then it is only their inventory hence why the discounts aren't as good

  • -3

Nobody will believe they have a genuine sale anymore. Don't waste time going there. They will raise price 60% before giving you 50%. They have been running by these fools since day one.

  • have anyone been to masters south morang or roxburg? anything else left?

  • +1

Just came back, pretty much 50% off scraps is still scraps.
Went there two days in a row and overnight two whole sections of tools just disappeared, I suspect they are taking bulk lot offers.

    • -1

I have thought this in the past too, but they just moved the stuff to consolidate it. Odds on it's still there somewhere just in a random spot that makes no sense.

      • No. When the stuff is suddenly being pulled from the stores it's being moved to an auction house to be auctioned off.

        • +2

No. When the stuff is suddenly being pulled from the stores it's being moved to an auction house to be auctioned off.

          Utter rubbish.

  • Not sure when the stores are all closing down, Northland (Melb) is Sun 4th.
So I'm guessing there might be more discounts in the coming 2 weeks.

    • Is that confirmed? I was there yesterday and whilst most of the stock was gone I've seen other stores with far less in them

      • +1

        That's what checkout staff said.

    • +1

My local (Williams Landing), originally told me Dec 4th, then last week told me 10th December was the official date although they may close earlier if they run out of stock.

I'd guess stores with hardly anything left may close sooner, and ship their stock to another nearby store to save on staff wages…
Just my opinion this last bit!

      • -1

I'd guess stores with hardly anything left may close sooner, and ship their stock to another nearby store to save on staff wages…

Staff will be paid until the date they have been given already so closing stores earlier will not save them any money.

I spent over $800 today and saved $1000 on products I'll use in the near future and if I don't I'll sell them and make a small profit whilst the buyer saves 50% on the Bunnings prices.

      • are you the one getting the gear i was looking to buy

  • -6

    Ban Masters already!

  • Are they still open until 9pm or have hours dropped back to core trading?

    • Are they still open until 9pm or have hours dropped back to core trading?

They haven't been open until 9pm for probably five months. All stores close at 8pm.

I wouldn't bother any way, chances are all the good stuff (whitegoods etc) was already pulled from the stores to be sold at auction houses. This closing down sale at stores must have been a sham. All the good stuff are at the auction houses. What's left at stores would just be the low value junk that no one really wants.

        • I wouldn't bother any way, chances are all the good stuff (whitegoods etc) was already pulled from the stores to be sold at an auction house.

Really do why do an OZbargainer pick up a $2000 oven for $400?

This closing down sale must have been a sham.

I've saved at least $3000 recently thanks to the closing down sales.

          @Maverick-au:

From the Masters closing down sale?.

        • +1

          @hollykryten:
          I have.
Blinds, insulation, door accessories and bathroom fittings was cheap.

It was like the Dick Smith sale earlier this year.
The liquidators put everything back up to RRP and started discount from there.
Non-professional bargainers would have bought a lot of things earlier on thinking they were getting a bargain.

        • @hollykryten:

From the Masters closing down sale?.

What sale was being discussed and what sale did I specifically reference?

        • +2

I understand where your coming from but see my experience.
I was watching and waiting on a Bosch stainless Dishwasher model 68M38AU still boxed reduced from apx $1300 to $838, I missed it by a day, suppose I was a little greedy.
Bought a house full of replacement LED light fittings at 50% off. Average cost to me apx $33 each. Containing fixed Leds 10w to 18w.
Bought some replacement Nelson 4' single fluro fixtures complete with 16mm tubes for $20 each. These are $50 each at Bunnies.
Bought 30m 12mm Neta diamond hose with 15 yr guarantee & fittings for apx $48 at 50% off. I think the Hills 15m premium + with 25 yrs guarantee at $25 is a better buy but I needed a 30m hose and didn't want a joiner. At 7pm some still there incl 18mm and other cheaper ones.
Bought Triton XT18 worklight for $19.50 with 3 yr guarantee battery not included. Other tools 50% off. I missed out on the 20w & 30w battery LED floodlights with bluetooth mentioned above, again I waited thinking a few more days, but last couple of cartons went out the door too quickly. Like garden hoses the public are buying 2,3,4 at a time for friends and rels, xmas presents?
Spitting chips about missing the bargains in curtains & blinds & ladders.
Bought a "Built 52cc brush cutter with steel blade & line feeder" reduced from $199 to $99. It's a ROC promotional item imported & serviced in Brisbane details are on the box. - At 7pm apx 18 left at Nth Lakes.
Fair amount of paint is still avail, interior 60% off, exterior 50% off.
The Tvilum range of flat pack wardrobe components is now 70% off - fair amt of stock.
1 X Ego battery charger $129 less 50%? (no battery)still avail at Nth Lakes at 7pm.
For anyone with valuables which excludes me, saw some small Honeywell safes & fire/water proof document boxes at 50% off, also a Honeywell rifle/gun box/safe 50% off at $295.
4' Glass outdoor table now $44, some still at Nth Lakes.
And don't forget the free loaner trailer is still available.

So "only the junk is left", as the saying goes one persons treasure is anothers junk.

Money, money, money it's a rich mans world, except when there's A Masters Sale.

Good Bargain hunting to all and thanks to Maverick-au for your marvellous effort.

          @CheepAsChips:
Several stores had massive amounts of blinds for sale one day, but then gone the next day.
There are three ways this could have happened.
          1. It transferred to another store that was selling blinds more.
          2. It was being liquidated i.e. taken to auctioneers.
          3. It was brodened by a curtain/blinds company

        • +1

          @CheepAsChips:

That's right. As I keep on reminding people from December there will be no discount with an uncompetitive landscape.

Even the original prices were quite reasonable for many categories so to get even 10% off is still worth it

Remember if you are doing a renovation you need the items the. And there so even a small discount to these people is worth it

        • +1

          @mmd:

I think you are on the money. For example at Knoxfield there was a far greater range of floating boards; Dandenong South had better cabinets and up until last weekend Hawthorn East still had a great variety of good appliances brand new. Keysborough has basically sold out of most items even a month ago and was one of the first to close up

It's probably quite a smart strategy.

        • +1

@hollykryten - We bought enough Permadeck timber and associated fixings to build a big deck out the back of our place at a saving of $2,600 (only paid $2,100), including all the supports to go under it (whatever they're called), and enough paint to paint our house interior at a minimum 40-50% off (more this morning at 60+% off!).
          * A generator at 1/2 price
          * A new pool filter at 1/2 price
Plus new blockout curtains for a big window for $70, and some other garden stuff suitable for xmas presents for the grandparents :-)

The sale may have started off slow, but there have been some good items

        • +1

          @mmd:

          1. It was brodened by a curtain/blinds company

This is what is happening, I saw the aluminium fit pool gate hinges taken by pool fence installers when the discount hit 40% by the trolley load leaving behind the timber fit hinges.

Other areas I saw all the stock of a product loaded into a trolley and purchased by one person.

        • +1

@mmd: While I was sorting the piles a lady shopper told me the popular 180cm Wide blind sizes went like hot cakes. That's why I was left sifting through the not so popular 210cm wides. May be some odd ones still there. I did get a set of blockout curtains, by taking one new curtain and one display curtain to make a set.
Even though I took the demo curtain, I felt it was better than some of the spotlight deals, which I have found to have near holes at the folds while still in the plastic packet.
They say nobody rings a bell when the stock market is in a frenzy & overheated, but these days my credit card is beginning to burn a hole in my pocket when I go near a Masters.

        • @AliGee:

Yeah. It's things like whitegoods which were hauled off to auction houses. That timber decking stuff wouldn't have been sold at the auction house it's the white goods which are more popular.

          There's a 9News video about it.

          http://www.9news.com.au/national/2016/11/14/20/25/washers-an…

          There's a 9News video about it.

This is more like a paid advertisement for the auction houses. The text that comes with the video leads you to assume there was a dispute between Masters and ONE manufacturer so only a small percentage of white goods.

      • Kit, either of the 2

        • I saw one skin remaining today 109. I know probably not that useful unless you can find another store with the battery and charger

  • Is this confirmed at any other store?
I haven't received an email about it (unless their IT team was sold off as well)

    • Is this confirmed at any other store?

      Yes multiple stores.

I haven't received an email about it (unless their IT team was sold off as well)

They're closing in a few weeks, forget emails you need to be in-store as stock is moving fast.

      • Got the official email today.
Managed to pick up more blinds for 75% off
        Was 175, now $43.75!!!

      • On Sunday I noticed Brisbane Everton Park Masters store had extra 20% off the lowest marked price on selected items for apx 20 minutes.
Similar to a Woolworths Red Light Special.

3M X 3M ventilated hardtop gazebo regular price $998 then 50% off $449 then extra 20% off apx $399 many available.
3.6M X3.6M hardtop gazebo reg price $1298 then 50% off $649 then extra 20% off apx $520 quite a few available.
Manhatton concrete table and 2 benches 50% off then additional 20% off. These weighed over 170 kg, but was very comfortable to sit on, even after an hour or so.

If interested, due to the quantity on hand, it could be worth an enquiry at the Brisbane Everton Park store which may be the largest Masters in Brisbane located on Woolworths St Everton Park. How big is that, having your own street name.

        • Edit: 3M X 3M ventilated hardtop gazebo regular price $998 then 50% off $499 then extra 20% off apx $399 many available.

        • @CheepAsChips:
Anyone interested in posting it to Perth?
All hardtop gazebos ozbargained in Perth

        • @mmd:
As of monday pm at least 10 3M gazebos & at least 4 3.6M gazebos at everton park store.
          3m gazebo weighs apx 92kg carton dimension is 210.7 x 82.6 x 20.3 cm
          3.6m gazebo weighs apx 77kg carton dimension is 227.5 x 91.5 x 23 cm
Is it worthwhile shipping to Perth?

        • @CheepAsChips:
Depends as I would gladly pay $100 for the shopping fee.
The last display was sold in Perth for around 700 and this is the only hardtop gazebo on the market.

Most stores around Brisbane had stock last week. Richlands, Everton Park and I think Bundamba had the most.
