  • These are good. If you are happy spending the extra money the evakool fibreglass iceboxes are even better and can keep ice for up to 10 days. Seen them on sale at bcf for 20% off a few times.

  • +2

I have this, paid $100 for it when amex had spend $150 at BCF and get $50 cash back.

The ice does not keep like in other coolers in this price range. It is only about 12-15hours

    • Do you know if this would fit into the boot of your average sedan?

      • +5

This page has the internal and external dimensions on it:

        http://www.minicoolers.co.uk/products/waeco/wci70.htm

I'm a bit OCD with my esky layout, so I wanted to make sure a bottle of the missus wine can stand up and not destroy my symetrical beer lineup. (322 minimum internal height clearance should cut it)

      • +2

It only just fits in my Accord Euro.
But it fits nicely in an Aurion

        • Cheers Kevron, I have a camry so I guess that's similar to an Aurion :)

        • +2

@slimdavy5: will it fit in my bentley?

        • +3

yes. but you might need to remove the champagne fridge.

        • @insular: Probably, but you still better off transporting it around in your Rolls.

    • +1

I read many other reviews saying the same thing - it has the look and feel of other premium coolers but does not perform.

I ended up buying this https://www.amazon.com/Coleman-6201A748-Xtreme-Wheeled-Coole…

You need to do this as much as possible. Applies to all eskies and makes a SIGNIFICANT difference.

      a. Precool (remove heat from) the esky by leaving a blue ice block thingy in there for a while
      b. Precool drinks in a fridge
      c. Insert drinks and ice

With the Coleman ice will last 5 days.

      • I have this cooler - bought on a driving trip in the US a few years ago and brought back as luggage. Got it at a Walmart in California for, if I remember correctly, under $40

A great product that we use constantly and really does maintain ice for several days

    • What would you suggest for $100?

    • Thanks for the heads up! Was about to pull the trigger.

  • if you want an esky without spending $400+, this is what to get

    • +2

$400 is a lot for an esky.
You can get an Evakool for less: http://www.evakool.com/factory-seconds/iceboxes-factory-seco…
Note: A new one after first use it will have more "smudges/marks" than what you'll get on a second from these guys.

      • +2

Second this, we have 2 x Evakool 100L seconds. They will keep ice for a week.

I freeze large bricks outta the wife's Tupperware instead of buying bags of ice. Big block's last longer than the servo bags.

        • Great idea, thanks!

        • Yes because the surface area to air ratio is lower. Therfore best to use big chunks of ice.

  • Has anybody bought or know someone who has bought from these guys before?

    www.chillco.com.au

They have a series of well priced cool boxes that look to have identical specs to the big boys (not the fibreglass made ones), offer a lifetime warranty (assuming the company doesn't go under of course) but also come with some extras such as marine grade latches.

They are local (if you are in Melbourne) and also throw in a number of dry ice packs equivalent to the size of the esky being bought.

    • Yes, lifetime warranty BUT -

This is a back to base warranty which requires the ice box to be sent back to our base at the customers expense. Chillco will either repair, exchange or refund goods that are deemed to be a manufacturers defect. Goods that are damaged in transit are not covered by the warranty.

So only really feasible to Melb people. (Just a heads up, still terrific)

      • Still terrific as in you have bought one of these and can vouch for performance??

        • +1

Nah never heard of them but a lifetime warranty is terrific in this day and age of consumable everything…

  • Bought one, thanks for posting.

  • SO I bought this for 289 2 months ago the night before going on a trip to moreton island because my esky sucked.

I may have avoided food poisoning by having my food kept cool but my wallet is sort of wishing I just risked it.

  • check out techni ice been running one (as well as a dozen mates) for years.

  • Thanks for the post bought 1 …. Come to $89 when used with the $30 voucher I got from the fishing game they had up a few weeks back.

  • Thanks op was procrastinating then realised click frenzy ends tonight so jumped on and got one. 60% off is the new 10% off.

  • +1

These are good iceboxes. You will need to know a few things for best use.
When they say the days of expected Iife from ice they are assuming you are using up to a 20-30% of the internal space as Ice. And that's a lot of ice.
Also as mentioned above, block ice is far superior to cubes and also service station ice isn't as good as ice you make at home in your own freezer.
Make sure all the products you put in the icebox are already cold to conserve the ice you place inside.
If your just looking to keep your fish cold while out fishing adding salt to a water/ice mix will actually be colder then just water/ice mix by it self.
I find keeping a few 2/3 litre milk bottles in the freezer then putting them in the ice box lasts better then just a few blocks, it also means they are available to drink during the day as they melt whereas I don't find esky water appealing.
I Think that the consensus is to keep the melted water in the ice box rather then tipping it out.
I have the 22, 68 and 111L versions, all bought from their direct outlet and think they are good ice boxes. As good as my icekool 100L twin tub.

  • When I order it, I can't seem to get free delivery? Anyone else work it out?

    • Worked it out, rural delivery. Oh well have to drop into the shop to collect … my poor legs.

  • Which State says ice box?

    Victoria says esky.

    • Esky is a brand who makes iceboxes.

      • I know that, but just like band-aids, the name esky is used when talking about ice boxes.

I have never heard anyone use the name icebox in Melbourne when talking about an esky/icebox

  • I've used one of these when camping. They are a decent construction and compact shape. However the performance is not fantastic. You'll probably get around one-two days out of a bag of ice. Walls are around 4cm thick from memory. Weight around 10.4kg.

I get better performance from a 60L Techni-ice. It is significantly bulkier with taller fee. Much less space efficient but the ice lasts longer. Walls are around 7cm thick. Weight around 12.4kg.
